  1. I know I may get tagged a pedantic book thumper but this is from the Guide to Safe Scouting: Two-deep leadership: Two registered adult leaders, or one registered adult and a parent of a participating Scout, one of whom must be at least 21 years of age or older, are required for all trips or outings. There are a few instances, such as patrol activities, when no adult leadership is required. Coed overnight activities require male and female adult leaders, both of whom must be 21 years of age or older, and one of whom must be a registered member of the BSA. NB "...such as patrol activities, when no adult leadership is required.."
  2. A Cardboard boat that will float with at least 4 people in it requires much more than a day to make. Thats the real intent of the regatta, they have to come together, plan, make, decorate and transport, the race is a mere trifle. Two crews this year put "if you can read this, please flip us over" on the bottoms
  3. Just back from the Area 5 Insomniacs Revenge and Cardboard Boat Regatta. The program started at 10pm FRiday night and ran through to the Area 5 VOA elections SAturday evening. I got to tell you, it was great, about 100 youth attended. NEPA is a great Council for Venturing, their Council President was in attendance, as he is for most events I attend and he is a great guy. NEPA puts on a great program. I am duplicating this post in the open program Section inder whats in a name as well. The Regatta was great, 6 boats competed in the Race as well as the Design and Theme categories. Best Design was Crew 007, Bond Jane Bond (All female Crew), Best theme Crew 241 Tie Dye and the fastest boat? Crew 241 as well, proving even if you are a hippie, you can be competitive, By the way, Crew 512 was the only boat qualifying for the Titantic Award, and they did with grace and aplomb The singing of Nearer to Go to Thee was a great touch This was the 7th Occasional Cardboat Boat Regatta, it may come back next year, it may not, depends on the youth planning the program. Over all, it was a great event

  5. Stay away from Georgia Tech athletic activities?
  6. what can I say, as a victim of Catholic propaganda blessing others is what we do
  7. So you are saying not eveyone who is Roman Catholic necessarily marches in lock step with everything the Church says and that one may be Roman Catholic and still maintain an individually functioning brain. I agree with that
  8. I am just trying to understand why BadenP would have any priest as a friend
  9. How does an error in judgement by the scout result in calling out adult leaders?
  10. So I made a typo, well, not a typo, I read it wrong, sue me? But I still got the name of the boat, right?
  11. Well now, it took a bit of doing, as April 10, 1965 was the day after the end of the War of Northern Aggression but of course you refer to Father Pietro Angelo Secchi's work aboard the Immaculate Conception BTW speculator es fiducia; fidelis adjutor adfectus accommodatio beneficium, oboedientia, hilarus, parcus fortitudo purus, sanctus

  13. Way Way Way back when Ozzie Osbourne graced the airwaves with insight into his domicile, his daughter was seen sporting a BSA uniform top sporting a "Los Angelos Area Council" patch. From my son I learned it was quite the rage back then and even today you can go on Ebay and search for EMO Boy Scout stuff and get quite an eyeful. BTW EMO is/was a lifestyle and music genre, generally if you see 5 guys singing in tight black girls jeans while wearing tight black t shirts and all are crying so much their eyeliner is running, its EMO Which of course brings about the statement, "I wish my lawn was EMO, then it would cut itself"
  14. was there not a plan to open Treasure Island as a wilderness campsite?
  15. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
  16. See, this is the troule with instituting Policy, then you have to live with it. A few months back I decreed no eponymous threads. So, I can't very well start one of my own. But awhile back a frequent poster said that Pope Benedict was well on his way to reversing the changes in the Roman Catholic Church brought about by Vatican II and as part of those changes the Mass would stop being said in the Vulgate and would return to the Latin. This change was to take place in 2010. Well, I have from time to time said I was looking for any indication this was so. And I have found this: http://usccb.org/romanmissal/ in the introduction it says: The Roman Missal, Third Edition, the ritual text containing prayers and instructions for the celebration of the Mass, has been approved by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. First use of the new text of the new Roman Missal will be on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011. And I wonder if this could be what was talked about. It is not a change back to the Latin Mass, but it is changes to the text of the Roman Missal, the words in English that the Priest will say during the Mass translated from the Latin. Is this the change that was foretold that would be coming and there was confusion over Latin versus Roman and what it meant?
  17. WingNut, I need to answer you. No, I never did receive any mail from other Moderators and by the looks of things plenty of people besides Merlyn and Ed have things to say so the discussion continues
  18. Merlyn, you keep saying Ed is uneducable, yet you continue to try to do so.... What what does that make you? And for the record, I am not saying Ed is uneducable, I think Ed loves to make Merlyn dance and I must say he is a master at it, Ed making Merlyn dance, and gee Merlyn dances well as well
  19. It would seem to me that the biggest tribute a scout (Eagle or otherwise) can give to a deceased scouter is to be active in the Program the deceased dedicated time to. Wearing a uniform or trinket of time spent in the program may be remembrance but not a tribute
  20. in the words of Captain Wallace B. Binghamton I could just scream...
  21. See, now, this is the stuff that drives me crazy. Ed, you and Merlyn have gone over this ground multiple times. You know why Merlyn says a public school sponsoring a BSA unit is unconstitutional, I mean I hope you know why he says that, he says it often enough. Merlyn, I do not understand why you let Ed get under your skin. If he asks the same question multiple times its to play you. To get a reaction from you and when you succumb he gets to say you do nothing but attack. Now, we really should not have one poster calling the other one a "moron" but then again, a poster should not repeatedly ask the same question just to see if he can get a reaction from another. Which ever way I go with this, I can see why the other person would say I am favoring the other. What do the reast of the moderators think? I guess I could put this in the Moderators Lounge, but perhaps it would be a good idea to have the community see our opinions. Do we let the boys continue to squabble and get in the way of a discussion? Do we close the discussion because two can't behave? Do we do something to the two who can't behave? I am out of answers and am tired of complaints from forum members asking me/us to control either one of these guys Let me know guys

  23. Hey, I know a few scouters from New Jersey and I take exception. Southern by the Grace of God, but when anyone dispargaes the south, heavens help us, but disparaging a state is fine. Snooki and The Situation are from New York, they are the reason the residents call this time of the year "Local Summer" as all the bennies have left (People who come for the benefits of the sun) Lets not judge New Jersey based on McGreevey, Danielle Staub or Teresa Guidice
  24. I am getting ready to go to Area 5's (Northeast Region) Venturing Insomniacs Revenge Sept 24 25 26 in the Beuatiful Goose Pond scout camp in NEPA. The DIning Hall is a Classic and I am sure Kudu could tell us why. Its called an Insomniacs Revenge because the program starts at 10PM on Friday and runs through until after Dinner on Saturday. They never could get the youth to settle down so they just started the program at 10pm. Ever do a zip line at 3am into total darkness? Thats a trip
