  1. But just because the Insurance Company does not pay for something does not mean that treatment is denied, that is all I am saying and apprently quite poorly There is so much I want to express about this topic and find myself not doing any of it well
  2. Kudu, I guess it comes down to this, I understand you want the boys to run things as I do I always think that I will be able to phrase things so that you will understand what I am trying to say and I fail.
  3. Vol Scouter you missed my point The insurance company did not deny the woman the treatment, they said they would not pay for it Insurance does not pay for everything, only what the policy covers I said the Doctors could provide the treatment, not that they should, but that the act of the Insurance Company not paying for the treatment did not deny the woman the treatment That the healthcare industry needs a good enema is hardly a revelation, I would like to see a less emotional one size fits all and lets move on mentality. Its easy to blame the current situtation on evil doctors, or evil insurance companies, or evil drug companies, or evil hospitals, or evil DME dealers, or Evil SKilled Nursing Facilities, or Evil whatever. Can we take the emotion out and take a step at a time?
  4. So there is no mentoring of a boy, The strong survive and weak struggle, I had not seen that as the scouting way, but I have been wrong before
  5. "Try telling that to my friend who just sat in limbo for 2 weeks while her doctors worked to convince her insurance company to reverse their denial for the bone marrow transplant that she needs for leukemia." The Insurance company did not deny the woman the bone marrow transplant, let me say that again, the Insurance Company did not deny the bone marrow transplant, they may have not agreed to pay for the Bone Marrow Transplant, but that is a heck of a lot different than denying the woman the bone marrow transplant. She can still have the transplant, the Insurance Company just doesnt pay for it If the Doctors think the Bone Marrow transplant is her best treatment option, then they should do it and worry about money later, why haggle now?
  6. Kudu Says ""Very often"? I hear this all the time, but it sounds like a theoretical dilemma. My experience is that Natural Leaders love to show off their secrets: "You make a little cave in the tinder, like this. Then you put the lit match into the little cave, like this." " You have never heard of the technical expert being made team leader and then the team falls apart because the technical expert has no concept of leading a team? "The bottom line is that a "Real" Patrol Leader is chosen for his ability to safely take his Patrol on Patrol Outings,..." So, what we are saying is that unless one is a natual leader, a "Real" Patrol Leader the boy will never be a leader and assumes a subservient role? there is no mentoring the boy?
  7. Sorry no, Insurance Company Employees do not control nor do they direct healthcare If Insurance Company Employees controled and directed healthcare, how do the uninsured get healthcare? Plastic Surgery is rarely if ever covered by Insurance, yet plenty of tummy tucks, nose jobs and face lifts get done, how is that possible if Insurance Company Employees controled and directed health care
  8. I want everyone to stop and think about society's stereotype of a career goverment worker, whether its the Post Office (yes, its quasi government) the Motor Vehicle Dept, Social Security, and the VA or AMTRAK Now, think of them controlling and providing health care
  9. you dont want term limits, you really dont want term limits When you have term limits the most important person ceases to be the person elected, it becomes the staffer. The career long guy who shows the elected where to live, where to park, where to eat and eventually how to vote The staffers would run a shadow government and we wouldnt know who they are. if we have bozo's in washington, or in your state capitol, I would look to the people who put them there and then allow them to stay, In the words of Firesign Theatre, I think we are all Bozos on this bus
  10. Kudu, we both agree that the Patrol Leader's job is to bring up his patrols competency so that the group may function on their own on a patrol outing Very often those with high skill sets have no way of imparting this knowledge to others, they know how to start a fire and can't imagine anyone who cant. The people with the high skill sets end up as patrol leaders,as they should How do these high skilled people transfer their knowledge to others?
  11. In reference to the above, the totals given are for outpatient procedures, inpatient procedures are paid differently. Medicare pays for inpatient care based the discharge diagnosis. if you have a total hip replacement, and covered by Medicare, the hospital gets the hip replacement amount, no more, no less. Doesnt matter what they do, it pays the same. There are mitigating factors, but the care provided has little to do with the reimbursement recevied
  12. Ed, Hospitals don't get paid "cost" they get paid from a Fee Schedule or from the DRG based on the discharge diagnosis. What hospitals charge and what they get reimbursed is pretty much vaporware see http://www.cms.gov/apps/ama/license.asp?file=/hospitaloutpatientpps/downloads/2010October_AddB.zip Hit accept at the bottom of the page and open the spreadsheet download Addendum B, this lists what hopsitals get paid per CPT code, thats the Procedure code, for example, a Head CT without Contrast pays the hospital a National amount of $194.60, less depending on the geographical area A head MRA reimburses a National amount of $348.68 What hospitals charge and what they get are not related I know this is complicated, its what I do every day. if you want more info PM Me (This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  13. I think the whole of government would benefit from Wood Badge, from the highest high to the most mediocre
  14. Every once in awhile I put out an idea about having BSA Ceritfied Troops. Much in the same way there are various private professional organizations. Post Secondary Educational Istitutions don't HAVE to be accredited, but most are, the accreditation means the schools meet certain standards. Why not have the same thing with Troops? You don't have to be BSA Certified, well, wait, it wouldnt be BSA Certified, you get your Charter from the BSA, I need another Acronym..... for a private certifying body Ok CSA, Certified Scouts of America. After being certified you get to add to your Troop newwletters you are a CSA BSA Troop. THis means you meet the standards which will be the same from Seattle to Key West, or perhaps from Nome to Marathon. Standards that are verified by an accreditation team of like minded adults who visit your troop to be sure you are doing it the "right way" and then get revisited every 3 years Do you want to be a member of the CSA?
  15. So, the Election is the Forming Stage, once Congerss gets back in session in January after the Holiday recess its on to the Storming Stage, where new Leaders are chosen and the Parties feel each other out as to who does what to whom then should come Norming as roles are laid out and finally Performing Well, thats the way it should work out, we have been stuck in Congressional Storming for way way to long
  16. "The school teams operate differently, since 50 kids will try out for 12 spots on the basketball team, you have to cut." There's the rub, you HAVE to cut kids, in a scout troop, all 50 would be members of the troop and all 50 would have an opportunity to advance as far as they want and to do all the activities they want Only 5 can "play" basketball at a time, all 50 can scout at the same time
  17. Now, can they just do something with the power, I mean it's the best Congress money can buy, I just want to see it work
  18. yeah, about that 5%, is my 5 the same as yours? "But just because we follow them, does not mean they are good rules, make any sense or are of any actual value."" Actually that sounds like about 95-96% of the US Code, to my knowledge of course
  19. Its not that the laser is a firearm, let me say that again, its not that the laser is a firearm, once more, its not that the laser is a fire arm. BSA does not espouse the ethic of aiming any device at another human for the purpose of "eliminating" them from even a game. Unless the aiming has to do with an Explorer Post of a Police Station Then again, you have to know that Hunting is an accepted activity for Venturing Crews So perhaps there is no logic, just a rule, no Laser tag for scouts
  20. "sharks with friggin laser beams" Acco, I think was Dr Evil, Mr Powers evil brother...
  21. I beleive it was Immanuel Kant in Critique of Pure Reason tells us that we can only experience things through our own eyes and the sum of our past experiences. We are all biased, just ask any Chicagoan about Pizza and their opinion on New York Pizza, or a New Yorker on Chicago Pizza (Chicago is of course the best, did I just expose a bias?) There was a time when being a man (or woman) of "discriminating tastes" was regarded as a good thing, now being discriminatory has a negative connotation yeah Gern is biased, just as I am biased, I tend to think that our biases is what makes us diverse, and I of course celebrate diversity
  22. I am sorry, but I feel this is very much on topic. I am not talking about whether or not homosexuality is right or wrong, or whether or not the BSA should allow gay leaders. I thought this discussion was on the LDS Scouting program and the BSA and to talk about the BSA and LDS and not include the Gay policy is ignoring a huge factor. But, I have had my say and will not mention it again in this thread. I was surprised to learn that at one LDS scouting "leader" did not think the BSA allowing Gay leaders was a deal breaker, that's all
  23. Sorry, but I feel like I just came in from another dimension. For as long as I can remember, I have been told that if the BSA was to accept Homosexaul leaders, or more properly put, if the BSA allowed Chartering Organizatoins to allow Homosexual Leaders than the LDS would pull out of scouting. Have I got this wrong? I thought that the LDS told the BSA that if it ever accepted gay leaders, then the LDS would drop scouting. Am I wrong on this? The loss of the LDS scouts always seems to be touted as the main reason the BSA won't consider allowing Chartering Organizations to allow gay leaders. Are you saying this is not so? Have we/I been wrong in our impressions?
  24. All this LDS talk got me to looking around LDS and Scouting sites, I found this and was frankly amazed as its counter to what I continualy hear about Homosexuality and the LDS/BSA relationship: http://www.ldsscouting.org/All_Programs/Mormon_Scouting_Myths/mormon_scouting_myths.html "Soon the courts will force Scouting to use homosexual leaders, and then the Church will have to pull out of Scouting This statement displays a misunderstanding of how organizations relate to Scouting in this country and how persons become scouting leaders. BSA creates the programs, but does not run them. Other organizations, such as churches, apply to BSA and receive charters to use the programs. Chartered organizations such as our wards select the leaders themselves. BSA gives some oversight regarding leaders selected to make sure that felons, child abusers, and others who might put youth at risk, are NOT allowed to work with youth as Scouting leaders. But beyond that it is unimaginable that BSA would tell our Bishops specific persons that we would have to use as we operate our scouting programs. It is even more unimaginable, even if BSA were to allow it, that any Bishop would deliberately call a homosexual person to a position of youth leadership." So, this statement implies that the LDS would not pull out of scouting if BSA allowed Homosexual leaders as it states "...even if BSA were to allow it, that any Bishop would deliberately call a homosexual person..." "If the BSA were to allow it, that any Bishop would deliberatley call" How could any Bishop call if they wanted no part of the BSA? This is totally against anything I have ever heard, read, etc(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  25. OK. I have been gone for awhile and maybe this has been covered. But, on pages 36 and 37 of the BSA Winter Gift Catalog is a selection of Solar powered recharing "thingies" (technical term) for "Batteries, GPS Units, Cell Phones and more", hopefully 'and more' was the euphenism used for video games. I don't want to think past them. Anyway, I know you can't stop progress, but WOW!
