  1. Gern and Vol, you guys are rapidly becomming "Ed & Merlyn Act II" Is that what you really want?
  2. The Country tried Probibition on the number one mood altering substance known to man, it didnt work, all it did was make criminals rich What makes us think that prohibiting new mood altering substanaces will work? And that is from a guy who once head the skull of a drunk motorcycle driver while his brains leaked out his ears We need societal values that would render mood altering substances superfluous
  3. Len Bias? I didnt know you are a Celtics fan Merlyn
  4. Heroin and pot and opium and cocaine legal? All those items were legal at one time, and the reasons for their criminalization was not necessary for the protection of the public as much as a reaction to a specific group, either ethnic or class level
  5. Some people never learn, then again I do have a sense of humor
  6. From John-in-KC Posted: Saturday, 12/11/2010: 2:01:22 PM quality -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is part of me that agrees with Trev, especially when there are people in the Peeple's Republik of Kalifornya who want to criminalize tobacco and legalize cannablis. Marin County and Belmont, I'm talking about YOU!! Wood smoke, leaf smoke, tobacco smoke, or cannabis smoke: The combustion products, including particulates, are the stuff that irritates the tissues and leads to cancers.
  7. from 83Eagle Posted: Saturday, 12/11/2010: 1:55:39 PM quality -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regulate and tax it? We love smokers in this country--well, as taxpayers, not as people. I'm guessing we could tax it like cigarattes and it would still be cheaper than on the black market. Lotsa new agricultural jobs too rather than planting it in the middle of clear cuts in state forests. Just sayin....
  8. from JHankins Posted: Saturday, 12/11/2010: 10:49:24 AM quality -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From a medical perspective, marijuana can be far better for the treatment of chronic pain and illness than the normally prescribed pain medications, and with less side effects. But it doesn't have to be smoked now days. Tablet forms are widely available. Smoking it usually only helps people who can't keep food down without it. I've seen hepatitis patients turn 180 degrees after a few weeks of healthy eating thanks to the side effects of THC, but they couldn't take a pill; they could only smoke it. Would you deny a sick man the right to live if he couldn't eat any other way? Surgeons are even still using cocaine for certain medical procedures. Everything has its uses, but certainly everything can be abused.
  9. from Trevorum Posted: Saturday, 12/11/2010: 7:59:41 AM quality -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They should BOTH be illegal. Or neither. Take your pick
  10. from Acco40 Posted: Friday, 12/10/2010: 7:29:15 PM quality -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mary Jane may contain more tar than commercialized tobacco cigarettes but because of the way it is "processed" marijuana is more organic so I would argue (unscientifically) that marijuana usage is more harmful to the user but less harmful to the "second hand" smoker as compared to cigarettes. Neither is "healthy" and at least one is illegal.
  11. from Beavah Posted: Friday, 12/10/2010: 5:46:49 PM quality -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This thread was spun from another thread.. Yah, figured I'd move this to a new thread for a thorough smokin', in da hopes others might still comment on my news sources thread . Scoutfish, the smoking itself doesn't harm the other people. Yes, smoking marijuana and driving can harm other people, but that isn't the smoking per se ("itself") that does it. Have yeh seen da studies on second-hand cigarette smoke, Merlyn? Have yeh seen da studies comparin' the toxins in marijuana smoke with tobacco smoke? Have yeh ever been to a rock concert? I reckon just like cigarette smoke, the second-hand effects of smoking itself harms other people. Beavah
  12. I am not sure what is being talked about, I think its whether of not patrols use a Duty Roster or not, requirement 4 of the Camping merit badge reads 4.Do the following: a. Make a duty roster showing how your patrol is organized for an actual overnight campout. List assignments for each member. b. Help a Scout patrol or a Webelos Scout unit in your area prepare for an actual campout, including creating the duty roster, menu planning, equipment needs, general planning, and setting up camp. Why would a duty roster NOT be used?
  13. Just to be clear, Kudu's dislike of WoodBadge did not start with WoodBadge for the 21rst Century, it started with the curriculum change in WoodBadge in 1972
  14. pchadbo Don't worry too much about Kudu, he means well he just has a funny way of relating to those who don't think the way he does He does have some very good ideas and the website he keeps is a great resource, I made a Capote for my living history charactor Pierre Alloyoius DuMode a few years back and it wasn't till much later I realized the pattern I followed was from Kudu's site http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/winter/gear/capote.htm Great resource for all things scouting, as far as his attitude towards some more "modern" topics? Well, if we all thought the same way, what a boring place this would be, Kudu keeps it interesting
  15. well, the good news is no one said they were using Gestapo Tactics or that anyone was a Nazi
  16. " I was disgusted listening to town hall meetings last summer and the rants from people who clearly had no clue about what was in the healthcare bill" And whose fault is that? Who is to blame for the great unwashed not to know what is in and what isn't in controversial legislation? Is it the Fourth Estate's? Or is it the "side" whomever they are at the time, proposing the legislation to be able to clearly articulate and explain what it is they want to do and how it will be done. It is then the opponents job to explain why they do not agree with the legislation and explain why in non emotional non perjurative explanations Yeah, I know, I am a dreamer
  17. Somewhere, sometime, Kudu will be reading this and smiling And he very much should make the Cheshire cat look like he was merely grinning
  18. "A couple weeks ago he's telling the Mormans how to do it right. And now he's a pesterin' da catholics." Again you guys are being a little rough on the Beavah, I prefer to think of it as he is demonstrating his ecumenical spirit
  19. I don't know FScouter,we are such a motley crew, diverse, eclectic, indiscriminate, heterogenouos, and piebald group, we could possibly be talking about two different poster... Nawwwww....
  20. Camilam42, you were a little rough on the Beavah there, I should let you know that on occasion Beavah has been an outstanding defender of the Catholic Chuch against those who defamed it. He did so well that I granted life long absolution based on my time in the Seminary (St Charles Borremeo, Lockport Ill, Diocese of Joliet). But then I had to revoke it, I think he is down to 30 days plenary indulgence at this time. What I don't understand is the attitude that one can tell another that the other is doing something not in line "with both da spirit of scoutin... " There is a frequent poster on the forum who is fond of castigating others who harshly judge other people's Scouting Programs by a few lines of text on an internet Forum and reccomends that we as adult leaders encourage and support other leaders who are volunteering their time to the program and doing what they feel best for the charactor development of the youth in their units and trust to their own good judgment I hope he shows up Thank you Camilam for all you do (This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  21. I want to be sure I understand, you want be to take the word of ABC News over what I lived, experienced and saw ABC News is hardly what most Tea Partiers would call an unimpeachable source but I am glad that Pat Toomey won
  22. I would hardly call Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania a "Tea Party" Candidate. While agreeing with some Tea Party ideas, its not like he embraced the Tea Party or the Tea Party embraced him. Of all the Ads I saw for Toomey (and I live in Bathlehem PA) I did not see anything remotely linking him to the Tea Party I think claiming Toomey'e election in Pennsylvania as a Tea Party Victory is a tad disingenuous
  23. Parvuli Dei = Children of God Ad Altare Dei = To the Altar of God for the Latin illiterates amoung us ...
