Should Scouts serve on Boards of Review?
OldGreyEagle replied to Beavah's topic in Advancement Resources
I thought the Board of Review was part of the Adult Association method of scouting. The youth experiences being alone with adults and must converse with them, adding a youth changes the dynamic, Then again, it may help -
I would object to taking out the Issues and Politics section because it would be caving into a "zero tolerance" attitude that neither Ed or I are fans of, and when we agree on something, its to be considered. The Issues and Politics section gives us great glimpses into the mindset of other posters and if things get too nasty thats what the moderators are for. It also allows sides that we may not consider to be explored. People who come on and say things like well all you (insert political view/label here) should be shot because you are (insert expletive here) tells us more about that person and their ability to articulate a position than it does the actual position

and still fading back to toss a pass to Betty White in the Snickers commercial as far as being sadistic, hippophilic necrophiles, we do it so often perhaps there should be an unwritten rule against it? a written rule? Nah...

Not knowing nothin' about birthin' no babies or training required we have: Do the openly gays have separate quarters? Will there be a separate shower schedule, I do think that the Islamic faith does not think highly of homosexuals, will Islamic officers have to be "trained" not to hold the sexuality of their command against them? What about other cultures? Will there be an issue? It is possible having openly gay soliers will be like having men and women bunking together, I don't know. The argument against having openly gay soldiers has focused on how they will be treated by peers, now we will find out if the concerns were real or not I know there are gay soldiers now, will having them being able to be open change all that much? I don't know, I do know that an openly gay man or woman should have as much a right to die for their country as myself, son or daughter (or their mother as well)assuming all of us are straight of course

Clemenza, wasn't he one of the Godfather's lieutenants? Along with Sal Tessio?

Personally I am wrestling with the thought that since this is Scouter.com, could the word scouting be considered eponymous?

And you don't think that having the thread "Holiday time camping in Beavah land" open is not a reflection of what you ask? That thread was started on December 11, 2010 and on December 18, 2010 you ask for something already in evidence for 7 days? I often say I don't understand your points or logic and this is another example.

Limit Number of Mbs with One Counselor?
OldGreyEagle replied to AdvT77C's topic in Advancement Resources
If the merit badge list contains the name of a recently convicted pedophile, your District is in deep trouble, did anyone report the manner to the Council exec who would suspend the perp? If a scout master knows a merit badge counselor "pencil whips" mert badge, then its the scoutmaster's duty to bring it to the Distrct's attention and have the counselor either removed or counseled or something -
Lets see, if you don't weigh within the governmental limits for your height and weight you shoudl pay 10-20p% more per every 10% you are above your ideal weight If you do not eat the government reccomended diet high in macrobiotic grains and low in red meat, you pay 10% more for every pound of red meat you buy over 4 ounces a day. Don't worry, grocery stores will report what you buy basedon the chip installed in your left ear or pass the laser wand over the tatto UPC across the back of your neck If you smoke? heck this sounds familiar Lenina Huxley: Ah, smoking is not good for you, and it's been deemed that anything not good for you is bad; hence, illegal. Alcohol, caffeine, contact sports, meat... John Spartan: Are you ******** me? Moral Statute Machine: John Spartan, you are fined one credit for a violation of the Verbal Morality Statute. John Spartan: What the h***l is that? Moral Statute Machine: John Spartan, you are fined one credit for a violation of the Verbal Morality Statute. Lenina Huxley: Bad language, chocolate, gasoline, uneducational toys and anything spicy. Abortion is also illegal, but then again so is pregnancy if you don't have a licence.

Vol_Scouter and I don't agree on a lot of medical issues, but I agree with him about the effect of the legislation on physicians. Physicians are not normal people, let me say that again, physicians are not normal people. To be a sucessfull physician you need to be supremely self-confident, totally believe you have the answers the patient needs and the skill to provide them. At least that's who I want working on me and my family. Then you subject these people to rule, guidelines, and enforcements? Not going to work. That which make Physicians capable work against them in following bureacracy I don't know how many watch the TV series House, I try to miss as many as I can but I have seen a few. People marvel at the charactor, how evil and manipulative he is and I think he is dead spot on most physicians behavior. Brilliant in his job, but not the kind you are corral with rules

I had always been told that the tune of "Light of Scouting" is "Scotland the Brave" the first tune taught to a fledgling bagpiper Do you know Scotland the Brave?

Is Wood Badge just about "the beads"?
OldGreyEagle replied to John-in-KC's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
maybe you didn't, that is not the point -
Gern, whatever Exxon/Mobile paid in income tax is irrelevant, it all came from it's customer's anyway, along with whatever was paid by Ford, Wal-Mart, or any other Corporation. We, the consumers, pay the taxes for corporations just as wellas we contribute to their profit or loss

Remember the intent of the Board of Review is also to review the Troops program and if a scout has issues with fellow scouts, I am not so sure he will be forthcomming if that scout or his best bud in the troop is in the Board of Review. That being said there is no prohibition against having an older scout be in the Board of Review and if the presence will enhance the Troop's Program which is supposed to be part of what the Board of review is about anyway go ahead. -
Always thought Ed Muskie was ahead of his time

Hey Eagle732, you know, the senior youth group (high school) could be registered as a Venturing Crew and then a Boy Scout Troop would be a natural thing to do and Cub Pack as well

Medicare and Medicaid dosen't pay cost now, why would they start? We are confusing future Healthcare with present tense health care, the predictions range from less waiting time and improved quakity if care due to Government initiatives and mandates to horribly long wait times and decreased quality of care due to Government initiatives and mandates I guess it comes down to if you are a glass half empty or full kind of guy; also, how well you think goverment can efficiently run an industry
-
To be clear, I am against Free Loaders in the Healthcare system Then again I am against all free loading and where is the outrage that illegal aliens AKA Undocumented Workers (sort of implies they do work) and other non citizens here illegally already avail themselves of the healthcare system, and the public school system and the public welfare system?

You have got to be kidding: Overprotective Stories
OldGreyEagle replied to Beavah's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Just a thought on snow and clean streets. The streets around the schools can be plowed rather quickly, where the kids have to stand pre and post boarding can depend a lot on how the school distrct employees clear the sidewalks and if they can't get to work because no one but plows are allowed on the streets, then a second snow day, even though the streets are clear can occur. Least wise thats what I get told Speaking of over protective, in the extended family I have a case that I want to describe, I am not sure anyone has come close as yet Mother has a baby, she was a bit of an alcoholic and drug user while pregnant and now is guilty as heck about what she did to the boy. Yes, the boy has some issues, his speach is at times incomprehensible and lacks strength and coordination in hand and fingers. He is ADD and severely disorganized. Some other issues remain but this is enough for her. He is 12 now, his mother still brushes him teeth for him as he can't do it "good enough" for her. His mother still wipes his butt after using the toilet because he can't so it to her satisfaction. One wonders what he does at school, but thats the way it is when he is at home. His parents keep him away from other kids because they "might" tease him so as a result he acts and relates to adults as an equal, which freaks me out totally. His mother buttons his shirts and pants, mostly he wears sweatpants and sweat shirts He sits in his room and plays video games all day and and in school he daydreams about playing video games. Yeah, I know, how can he be too uncoordinated to tie his shoes but he scores quite well in Call of Duty? No idea here its a train wreck waiting to happen but what can be done when parents enable the situation? -
Why is there a concern now to make the "free loaders" pay?
