Are we talking about EDGE as an Educational Model or EDGE as a Leadership Model? I need to know before I comment as I got tripped up this topic not so very long ago

I would also want to know if the scouts and scouters were wearing Class II or III PFD's and if the scouts were traumatized by the change in plans?

Most fashion has its roots in utilitarian items such as the buttons on the sleeves of a mans suit coat or blazer. In this case, perhaps one should consider why a neckerchief was worn in the first place and then its placement in relation to a collar would be evident. I prefer the "old school" style , neckerchief over the collar, to protect the shirt from sweat and to help keep dust from going down the back of the neck

Aww Blanc, I love Czernina. My Grandmother lived in a two flat in Chicago, Meade and Irving or so. When as went to vist Grandma we always went around back, and came up to the back porch except between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Seems Grandma always got a Duck on the Friday after Thanksgiving and kept it on the porch til Christmas where it would become Christmas Dinner. One Christmas Eve in the hub bub of getting all the presents in Grandma's house, my mother left her purse in the car and I was sent to get it. I ran down, got the purse and by force of habit ran around back and ran up the stairs. There on the back porch was the decapitated duck, hung upside down with a bowl underneath to catch the drainig blood which would be the stock for the Czernina. My mother quickly came out to get me and wanted to know what I saw, I told her and asked why the blood was being collected, SHe said it was for the soup, I have loved it ever since. -
Extra Backpacking Adventures

My thought is, its real possible, its scheduled as a troop event and who ever shows up gets to go. Well, making sure that the event is well described and if its 50 miles in two days be sure the kids who show up are capable or something but I guess why not do it? The more stories the few come back with the more that will show up next time -

But, the question was asked if anybody knew why a charter would be suspended/revoked so I updated this thread. I didnt mean to confuse people -

So, what is the name of the group we are supporting, what is their name? "Sons of Libya" has familiar ring, I wonder if that's it. What is the name of their Leader and what do they espouse? Democracy? Stalinism? Sharia law? If/WHen they take over, what is their Vision of Libya?

SO, could it really have been almost 5 years? Anyway, the other thread got me thinking about this. I checked the BSA site and there is a Troop 777 (the disbanded troop was 776) now chartered in Tamaqua, Pa to St John's United Church of Christ, the Chartering Organization that lost the charter was Zion Evangelical Lutheran Chuch so there is scouting in Tamaqua as I beleive Beavah predicted -
there was this story http://articles.mcall.com/2006-05-19/news/3668558_1_troop-eagle-scouts-three-boys and the follwing discussion http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=131257&p=1 So it DOES happen, just not all that often...

Parents as Merit Badge Counselors
OldGreyEagle replied to Crossramwedge's topic in Advancement Resources
Sounds like the dad is a real nightmare, have you ever known a nightmare to obey a rule? Written or otherwise? Instead of writing rules for the whole troop (sic!) why not talk to the gentleman and get his take on things and you explain your views. It may end well, it may not but why handle it in such an oblique manner? -

Since I am pretty sure heterosexual married scoutmasters don't sit around a campfire and talk about their heterosexuality, or at least they are not supposed to, then why would a transgendered SM be affored an opportunity to talk about their experience?

"The Honor Society of Scouting"
OldGreyEagle replied to sherminator505's topic in Order of the Arrow
Lets say a girl ::horrors:: gets the Outdoor Bronze and under new rules is eligible for the OA. If she joined the Crew at 14 and it takes a year to get the Brinze and then waits for OA election time, she takes her ordeal with 12-13 year old boys. What 15-16 year old girl will want to hang with 12-13 boys? Ok, the young lady endeavors to perservere and makes it. Now she is a member If you let girls in the OA,in 3-4 years you will have a female national Chief, something that wouldnt bother me, but other may have an issue -

I have been saying Dump the Uniform because it does not seem to engender a whole lot of respect. Yes, the Methods are just that and we are to keep our eyes on the Aims and even Mission. But I have to ask Its ok to have a adult leader sanctioned "Half Uniformed Troop" and we say that's ok because you have to keep your eye on what is important. Kids having fun and comming to meetings. Then, why do we tell posters that if their youth can't pass swim tests to work with them, to have them defer advancement until they can pass the test, well, if the Troop can decide to not wear a full uniform, why do they have to give the complete swim test? Why do they have to be sure all the requirements are done for rank? WHy not adopt a Troop policy of 50% of requirements for rank is ok for us. After all, Advancement is only a method, its not really that important. Patrol Method? Why bother? if you can have a half uniformed troop, why not have a half Patrol Method Troop as well. As Hoc Patrols are so much easier to manage and that whole 300 feet thing is just to hard. The methods are just that, methods its not like they actually need to be done Outdoors? The Outdoors is just a method, one of the most vile insults that this forum can hurl is to call a unit "Parlor Scouts" :: shudder::. Well, the Outdoors is just a method, just as the Patrol Method is and the Uniform. Why all the hand wringing on those perceived to be "Parlor Scouts", as long as they are having fun, and attending meetings thats the important part, correct? We all know the outdoors is over rated, what is the shame in trailer car camping? So, let's just dump the uniform, then we don't have to argue about it, we don't have to question others motives about wearing knots, we just would have so much more time to get onto the business of scouting Arguing about the uniform is just not worth the energy, lets dump it and move on -
Dump the Uniform, It's a Vestigal Organ, Excise it!
