  1. "Hunt, i dont mean to be insultive if you are not, but are you a mother?" Oh geez and a misogynist as well
  2. Man oh Man I get to be lumped in with Bob White and FOG in the same sentence, on the grounds of merely quoting regulations and being a robot, this is the Twilight Zone So you are looking for other people who share your idea's? This may be a place to find some Oh, BTW, Welcome to the Forum, Advice to other Forum Members ...time to buckle your seatbelts, its going to be a bumpy ride...
  3. ....You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Twilight Zone.... Sturgeon my man, you are incredible, I have to give you that, you have Bob White and FOG arguing on the same side of the fence, which is no mean feat I must tell you. At any rate, what do you hope to accomplish posting here, you already knew before you started that your Troop makes a shambles out of the BSA Program, so what do you hope to accomplish by posting here?
  4. So you thinks its ok and proper to screw up Boy Scouts advancement program ? The minimum age that a boy should be an Eagle is the age he is at when he earns Eagle, having satisfactorily met all the requirements. If you have a parent problem deal with parents, not by messing with the program(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)

  6. Somestimes Outdoor Thinker can be so silly, measure first? Thats like asking for directions or reading the insructions, its unseemly, unnatural, unmanly, ... it might work!
  7. Hey Capt. Just a word if I may, the Venture Silver is indeed a tough nut to crack. It should also be pointed out that the Ranger is the top award in the Outdoor area of Venturing, Venturing Crews may also have a focus on Sea Scouts, Arts and Hobbies, Youth Ministries, and Sports. While all Venturerers may work on the Gold and Silver, the Ranger is reserved for the Outdoor area. A better quesiton may be when will the entire program get the recognition it warrants? And I must reiterate, the best program publicity comes from the local. not the naitonal level(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  8. You guys ever hear of Bill Evans? He is Associate Director of Venturing. Why not let him know how you feel about the loops. E-Mail him at bevans@netbsa.org
  9. ::wonders if Camp FOG will have the Bob White Nature/Conservation Education Pavillion::
  10. How about a thank you to the people who do donate and while you do the things you listed, dont do them all yourself, have other people help you. Getting things done thorugh other people is the core of leadership
  11. I don't know if these are national statistics, but at our district roundtable it is mentioned on a regular basis that something like 3 out of 4 cub scouts have never met a Boy Scout. Why not have him come in uniform sporting all the meritbadges and patches he has. He can talk about his first merit badge, first time he cooked, whatever he wants, the result cant be anything but positive
  12. Rooster, its been awhile since we have diagreed so I guess we are due. First off "...beneficial to a 14, 15, 16, or 17 year-old boy." I guess the female ventures don't count, thats ok if you forgot girls can be members of the BSA, lots of other people do. I make this observation specifically for Campfire Fairy, Campaholic and Outdoor Thinker and CrewGirl. Next, you tell people who are non-Christians they beleive in a bogus religion You tell Christians who have a different view of the Scriptures than yours that they are wrong You tell Christians who arent not of the same following/beliefs as you that they are wrong You tell everyone who does not agree with your own value system they are wrong You have the right to have and espouse your own beliefs and thats fine, But now you want to tell the youth how to live their lives, at some point, I have to say, just STOP! I agree with a lot you say, but I feel compelled to post this.
  13. On a different perspective I very much resented anyone telling me how I should should live my life and would not think that I should tell anyone how to live there's other than to follow the Oath and Law Got a call from an old friend We used to be real close Said he couldn't go on the American way Closed the shop, sold the house Bought a ticket to the West Coast Now he gives them a stand-up routine in L.A. I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm alright I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life Go ahead with your own life, and leave me alone I never said you had to offer me a second chance I never said I was a victim of circumstance I still belong, don't get me wrong And you can speak your mind But not on my time They will tell you, you can't sleep alone in a strange place Then they'll tell you, you can't sleep with somebody else Ah, but sooner or later you sleep in your own space Either way it's okay, you wake up with yourself I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm alright I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life Go ahead with your own life, and leave me alone I never said you had to offer me a second chance I never said I was a victim of circumstance I still belong, don't get me wrong And you can speak your mind But not on my time I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life Go ahead with your own life, and leave me alone
  14. I sinecerely apologize to anyone I may offend with this post, but I have been thinking about this since the subject came up and wont be in peace until I say it Said to 15 year old self: Be careful of older adults who think its their missiom in life to tell you how to live your own. They may have a vast experience of knowledge and wisdom, but its going to relate specifically to their own being and may not be as valid to you. There are truths you must accept, but only after your own resolution. Learn to think critically and make your own descisions and the consequences thereof. Never be afraid to ask for advice, but treat advice offered without request quite carefully. Never beleive these are the good old days, always know the best days are yet to come because you will always need to strive to improve, for once you start living in the past and start with the coulda's, shoulda's and woulda's you may find you have no future hopes, only past regrets. When some one asks me whats the most fun I ever had, the happiest time, the most proud, I have an answer, but it always ends with "...so far". I dont see how any one can live thinking thay have already been as happy as they will ever be, as good as they will ever be, the past is gone, the future is yours to make.
  15. Try this for just about everything http://www.macscouter.com/Eagle/index.html
  16. Just as a Devil's advocate however, why place a kid who makes every scout meeting as equal to a kid who misses several? I know the reasons to miss Scout meetings are legion, and I dont think you can use meeting attendance as a criteria for advancement, but why not give the scout who attends an edge because he does show up? As I have said, meeting attnedance should not be a criteria, but then the information given at the meeting should be available, but not necessarily spoon fed to the scout. First Come First Serve rewards the active scout
  17. Real Scouting? First of all, congrats to OJ, Then awhile back there was a question about what constututed success in scouting, well, here is an example. The High School my son attends has a breakfast for "Outstanding Students" once a semester, (twice a year) to be an outstandng student, the student must be nominated by a teacher as a good role model, a decent kid. Grades dont matter, atheletic skills dont matter, just being "A good person" however the teacher sees it. The Senior Class had 12 outstanding students, 7 girls and 5 boys. Of the 5 boys one was my son, and another is from the same troop as my son and also an Eagle. Thats success...
  18. Just a sample No guarantee made expressed ot implied http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Trails/7919/bor_ques.htm
  19. Ahem, I just have to point out that Campfire Fairy is a member of the Crew to which I am honored to serve, along with Outdoor Thinker and Campaholic. I just love this Venturing Crew Stuff!
  20. Alas and Alack (a story for another time0 The Crew did not get a chance to take a bite out of the Big Apple, the snow would have been bad enough but unfortunatley OGE was under Drs orders to stay home and off his feet. The good news is, NYC isn't going anywhere and we shall return
  21. My Favorite Iowa song in the whole wide world: Townspeople: Oh, there's nothing halfway About the Iowa way to treat you, When we treat you Which we may not do at all. There's an Iowa kind of special Chip-on-the-shoulder attitude. We've never been without. That we recall. We can be cold As our falling thermometers in December If you ask about our weather in July. And we're so by God stubborn We could stand touchin' noses For a week at a time And never see eye-to-eye. But what the heck, you're welcome, Join us at the picnic. You can eat your fill Of all the food you bring yourself. You really ought to give Iowa a try. Provided you are contrary, We can be cold As our falling thermometer in December If you ask about our weather in July. And we're so by God stubborn We can stand touchin' noses For a week at a time And never see eye-to-eye. But we'll give you our shirt And a back to go with it If your crops should happen to die. Farmer: So, what the heck, you're welcome, Glad to have you with us. Farmer and Wife: Even though we may not ever mention it again. Townspeople: You really ought to give Iowa Hawkeye Iowa Dubuque, Des Moines, Davenport, Marshalltown, Mason City, Keokuk, Ames, Clear Lake Ought to give Iowa a try!
  22. Kelly Osbourne in the premiere show of their series was seen in a boy scout khacki shirt with plenty of patches, not sure if they were correct, it was a quick shot
  23. Eamonn, I understand your predicament. But when it comes to long term committments with that kind of money, you have to go with who puts the cash down first. The Council can develp a waiting list, 25-30 % of the lads that put money down wont be going. Alternatively, can your Council wrangle another troop? Last time our Council originally put together 4 troops to go and had such a respnse that they added another troop, so 5 troops were formed. Is that possible? it should still be early enough I know its a tough spot, but more than enough is always better then not enough
  24. OT and I were at a Council Venture Meeting, the head Venturer Advisor in the Council said naitonal had just issued a "proclamation" requiring "people" under 21 to have parental permission slips signed for activities. I didnt see the proclamation and the gentleman was not forthcomming with any documentation, we would be interested in knowing if this is true or not.(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
