  1. Leastwise not in the same thread, hey give me a break this is the first 6 pagers in months that I have been able to follow...
  2. I don't think anyone will doubt exploring for natural gas will have no effect on Philmont, but saying Bush wants to explore for Natural Gas in Philmont is a distortion of the news story that leads off this thread.
  3. To paraphrase Dorothy Gale, My, things certainly happen quickly here. The title of this thread is Bush wants natural gas exploration NEXT to Philmont, where is it written he wants to drill for it in Philmont?(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  4. hey Mr Daigler, I have an idea and I am sure some of my fellow critters know what's comming, but first an explanation, Part of the Eagle Leadership Project is to stretch the scout, make him go out in the community and converse with people he normally doesnt, whether it be township commisioners or city councilmen or his church's Elders, its to enlarge his comfort sphere. Now, about that song book and CD, sounds like a wonderful idea that is the beginning of a Woodbadge ticket item. Ever think of doing Woodbadge, its the best fun you will ever have, and I am sure all my fellow critters will agree from the mightiest Bear to even, well I will let you all fill in your idea of the lowliest critter. While your boys work on their scouting career, you work on yours, now wouldn't that be loverly ? And if you need help, I have been known to croon a few tunes now and again(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)

  6. FOG, on this thread you posted the following: RE: Eagle Scout Rank or Award? Posted: Tuesday, 8/10/2004: 12:58:46 AM quality Boleta, I'll pretend to be Eamonn for a moment So, lets see, first you ask for moderator protection on a thread where a post attacking you was edited and now you can't remember that you were pretending to be Eamonn... So, that leaves me to two conclusions, either you have added another trick to your already stuffed bag of antics, such as yanking people's chains just to get a reaction, making outrageous comments just to get a reaction or generally treating the forum as your own personal amusement park where you dont care who you offend as long as you get a laugh or its early onset Alzheimers, I hope its the former and not the latter
  7. well I knew it would eventually get to this, FOG is arguing with himself. talk about your vicious circles...(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  8. A long time ago, when I first met up with the troop I now serve I wanted to be the best adult leader the troop ever had. I was not afraid to point out to the boys what they had done wrong and how they should have done it better. I was not afraid to raise my voice and let a "deserving" scout have a verbal diatribe for all sorts of offenses, from not being able to start a fire when he was first class to buring the meal. Then, after a few years, a group of first years crossed over and the adult leaders were being introduced. The Troop Guides would say the persons name and then explain what role that leader had in the troop. When it was my turn, it came out like this, "this is Mr GreyEagle, and he can shout really loud". I was crushed. No mention of the joy I held for scouting, no mention of how I was tough but fair, no mention of the fact I had never refused to help any scout who asked me and would knock myself out finding an answer if I didnt know it. only "He can shout really loud". Well, I havent shouted since that day. I now sing my songs and recite my poems. I still correct scouts, but in a lower volume and away from the crowd. I remember what a wise old scoutmaster once told me, "you know, in the end, we are in the memories business" I want memories of me to be happy and bring smiles to their faces as they remember even the silliest of songs. I want them to have as much fun being as scout as I do(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  9. Hops, so the cable to cut is always orange, or green or polka dotted, its not enough to stop production of a very promising technology. Right now, if everyone drive a Prius, what do you think the price of gas would be? Would rescuers know what cable to cut? Did you know that gasoline is inherently explosive and can pose a danger to rescue personnel, should be remove gas from out vehicles? I know I am comming on strong on this topic, but it is one I feel very deeply about, the electric car was touted for decades as the answer and as we get very close all of a sudden it has inherent dangers, sorry I dont buy it
  10. Way back, Way back long long ago when I first started reading Popular Mechanics (back when it was printed on papyrus reeds) I remmber articles about electric cars. In the greatest movie ever made "Follow Me Boys" Aunt Hettie drove an electric. Electric cars have always been with us in one form or another as long as there have been cars. And they always had problems. Usually it was range and speed brought about by a combination of poor battery performance and weight. Back in the original oil crunch of the 70's I remember people talking about how the US needed to get away from foreign oil dependence. Electric cars were once more talked about, but again the battery and recharging time were issues. GM, Ford et al all talked about how they would LOVE to have economically viable electric cars, but alas the technology just wasnt there. New batteries were developed and attempts made but just nothing produced a viable car at reasonable cost. That is until now, now Toyota and Honda both have economically viable hybrid vehicles. And just now, as their sales begine to climb, all of sudden the inherent quiet of the vehicle is in question. Now, as more people look at hybrids as practical and a hybrid SUV is due, now all of a sudden hybrids are portrayed as inherently dangerous. Where did that concern come from? In all the past, in all the work done on electrics, in all the articles I read about them, danger to the rescuers were never mentioned. I have seen prototypes of electric cars since the first Chicago Car Show I atteneded in 1973 (I shook Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels' hand at the Dodge exhibit, the origianl good guy in the white hat dont you know) Never was a danger to rescuer personnel mentioned. I just wonder why this inheremt defect in electric cars, present since the inception of the vehicle is so important now?
  11. Mr Daigler, I highly object to a portion of your last post. I did not find at the time, nor do I now find the Red Beret's of the 70's questionable. What style of headgear do many portions of the US military now sport? The BSA was ahead of its time.
  12. Where's the moderator when someone's dissin' me? How soon they forget, If I remember right, wasn't a post attacking you edited out in this very thread? I do what I can FOG, but I am not Superman and you certainly are no Lois Lane. I am no Spiderman, and you are assuredly no Mary Jane Watson, I am not, oh well, you get the idea...
  13. boleta, my dear gentleman, now I understand why you are a surgeon and not a radiologist Packsaddle, I understand, and its my own prejudices that led to my comment. I guess I never thought of Quakers as being in anyway way "liberal", oh well live and learn, ain't (sic!) this forum a great hodge-podge of erudition? Oh, and as long as the vocabulary stays at the present level, let the tumult rage. It is only when baser, more scatologically derivitive lyrics are employed do I beleive action is warranted.
  14. So Bob, this piece of rope, walks into a bar, the bartender sees him and yells out "Hey, you piece of rope, we don't serve your kind, get out of here" So a tad chargrinned, Bob backs out of the bar, stands off to the side and takes off his whipping string and shakes his head vigorously. Then he walks back in the bar, the bar bartender takes one look at him and says "Hey, aren't you that same piece of rope I just threw out of here? Bob looks around and then says, "Who me? I'm a frayed knot"
  15. Sometimes I think I am too funny for my own good... Move along, nothing to see here... (This message has been edited by a staff member.)
  16. Liberal Quaker? Now thats an oxymoron!!!
  17. STOP THE PRESSES!!!! Merlyn, when did you convert to Islam?(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  18. Gee TI, sounds like a problem you have there. How many Campers and/or staff have been attacked so far this year?
  19. A few years back I went to the big island on a business trip (yup, forced to go to Hawaii, what a life!) The clinets were magnanomous enough to honor my request to leave on a saturday and arrive on site on tuesday, that allowed me two days on my own and the client saved big bucks even with the two nights lodging because I had that magical saturday stay over. I remember walking through the lava tube and the trails. It is a great place. While I was there, an active lava flow was present. They had a trail and had "informational" brochures there as well. The brochure made mention that the trail to the lava flow was quite treachorous, as the lava can be quite rough on shoes and the ground is almost like crushed glass. Then it went on to say while the scene of the molten rock spilling into the ocean was breathtaking, the steam that results is an amorphous mix of chemicals, which can sometimes be deadly, plus tiny balls of silica can form and be breathed in, essentially creating tiny little glass particles with jagged edges trapped in the lungs. Now, the quesitons is, is any of this true or did they just not want a lot of gawkers hanging around?
  20. I would be looking for a pack that when my son and I were back in the car after the visit, the scout would be almost bursting with excitement about how cool, phat and totally kickin' the kids were to him and how much he looks forward to hangin' with the homies In other words, be sure your son likes the pack as well
  21. I can tell you what my mother did. She put together a home made quilt, its rather simple as far as quilts go, one foot squares with a fler-de-lis quilted in the panels. Centered in the panels are the patches and ranks I earned and received as a scout. The very center has the troop and pack numbers with the community strip and then it branches from there.
  22. Actually I am a Catholic, and a survivor of molestation/sexual abuse by a Catholic priest. I don't condsider myself having been molested and abused by a homosexual who happened to be a priest, I consider myself having been molested and abused by a pedophiliac who happended to be a priest. Had I or my parents subscribed in 1967 to the current G2SS rules, then none of those "experiences" I carry would have occurred.
  23. Just agree that I am da bomb, and we can both be happy(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
