One of the reason National struggles with Venturing is because a lot of the professionals dont have a good graps on it. I mean, you get past Bill Evans and who is there? 3-5 people who were part of the original group? Most professionals look at Venturing as Boy Scouts with girls, or as a way to do "High Advenure". Unless you plan on shooting pistols while on a hunting trip, I am not sure being a Venturing Crew allows you to do more/better high adventure than a boy scout troop. Councils can struggle putting on COuncil Venturing Events because there isnt the depth of Venuring experienced leaders that the Boy Socut program has cultivated over the years. This base will grow, it just takes time

So, if you just dont pay, and continue to do the job, what can they do to you? Do they have fully flush people chomping at the bit to replace you? Sorta of a What if they gave a war and nobody came sorta vibe

One thing to remember is that while Boy Scouting is over 100 years old, Venturing is still less than 15 years old. Ok, Boy Scouts started in 1910, by 1925 what was the normal experience with troops in most communities? Were all the troops that started in 1910 thriving and growing and just exploding in membership or did some troops grow and prosper and others fizzle? it can be hard to remember what it took to make Boy Scouts part of American Culture and that Venturing has so many other things to overcome that did not exist when Boy Scouts was starting. Venturing can be a hard row to hoe if the youth really don't beleive its their program, if they dont know how to or want to develop their schedule, but it can be done. It just takes the right mix of adults, youth and situation. As time goes on, results will improve

I suppose there are some who would regard Jesus drving the money changers and those who sold animals for sacrifices out of the Temple as imposing his belief that the Temple was not to be a place of commerce

Hey, my grandmother was Portuguese... Just a thought, in what is supposed to be a uniformed organization, why is it that those who wear the uniform correctly and wear the knots they earned and are entitled to are prejudged to be in it for all sorts of reasons other than for the youth and program and those who do not wear the uniform as prescribed often are regarded as having noble reasons for their behavior? I can accept that the lack of a complete uniform does not indicate a poor leader, why is it that a complete uniform seems to engender feelings of "somethings wrong with this guy"? How about getitng to know the person and not the uniform?

I have often quoted the old phrase, "Becare what you wish for..." Lets say the good sheriff is correct, and Obama is not eligible to be president, does thetitle of president pass to the Vice-President and did I just feel a quickening in the Force as millions of souls just cried out at once? Lets defeat him in the elections, then again, is there time?

What I was trying to say it in some environments, the initials just don't matter, I would expect the Head of Pharmacy to be a registrered Pharmacist, the Lab Manger a registred Medical Technologist, the head of Physical Therapy to be Registered Physical Therapist I guess the quesition is, how important are titles anyway?

One and done, or is Testing ever really finished?

I am of the understanding that the reason there are things called Scout Skills is because the scout is skilled in them. That the program the unit offers provides ample and rich opportunity to use those skills whether its using a bowline, cooking food, using a compass or identifying a shrub. Scout Craft is known as such because the scout routinely crafts these items while on unit activities. Its not a once and done, knots, cooking, et al are such a part of the program that there is never a doubt the scouts can do these skills because they could not complete an outing without them. If the program a unit delivers does not afford the opportunity for Scout skills to be used, then the unit program needs adjustment -
You missed Obama owns HULU (the old TV rerun thing) I am surpirsed the Republicans are even spending time and money on producing a candidate in the first place when everyone knows Obama will announce he has canceled the elections, appointed himself as Emperor abolished state goverments and divided the COuntry into 4 Federal Districts, The West, Central, Southern and Northeastern. The announcement will come by July, August at the latest, you will know when its been announced as the black helicopters will be every with the marking "property of Trilateral Commisision" crossed out and stenciled under it "New World Order" And Hulk Hogan will be nowhere to be found(This message has been edited by oldgreyeagle)

I know this makes me a member of the uniform police, but here goes: Bart, the Venturing Crew cannot make the Boy Scout shirt and Jeans its uniform. They can cone with anything they want to be the Crew uniform with the exception of recognized BSA uniforms. Then its the Venturing Uniform completely. We had a few EMO girls in the Crew that wanted to wear Cub scout unforms (Very EMO, or it was) and say it was the crew uniform. Would I jump up and down and scream foul? Or even J'accuse if I saw youth dressed like that? Never, I would just be happy that a Crew was out doing something

I do not appreciate Obama's views on much except his choice of NFL Football team and the fact we agree on that makes me wonder of if I should be a Cheesehead, but I digress If all the energy, bile, vitriol and hatred that was spent on Obama and trying to prove he was not eligible to be president was being spent on developing a well spoken presidential candidate with a cogent plan and was able to explain that plain in a manner understood by the voters, then the November election would be a fait accompli. But rather than work to better things, its much easier to sling mud and cast dispersions. It certainly is much easier to destroy than to build, but sooner or later is not everything destroyed with nothing left to replace it?

Way way back I worked in a Hospital as the Radiology Dept head. Got a new boss who sent around a notice for a Dept head meeting of all of her minions to talk about how she was going to re-structure things. It was in memo form and behind her name, she had her credentials so it looked like this: Nancy Nurse, RN, MSN So I thought, wow, I had never thought of adding credentials to my name, I thought my title was enough and as most people knew who the dept managers were nothing else was needed, but OK, I could do that as well. I sent my RSVP and had in the form line the following OldGreyEagle R.T.®ARRT MPA It's not important to know what the aplphabet soup means, it's just what most people in my role had. The next memo I got from Nancy just had her name in the from line. I dropped my alphabet soup as well and nothing was ever said about it.

JoeBob, I will challenge KUDU when I think he is off base, or off kilter or just off but the situation you describe is nothing close to what KUDU espouses. There is boy lead and then boy lead into the ground and there is a difference

"Whether it is the Catholic Church where a select group of cardinals are now positioning themselves to be in all the key power positions in the Vatican, against the wishes of the Pope" What is the source of this? I am not saying its wrong, I would just like to know where you picked this up from I am still waiting for the Mass to revert back to Latin as you claimed it would awhile back. Its still in the vulgate where I go

You know, (Sorry Pack) I have to channel the female singer in "Paradise by the Dashboard Light/Let me Sleep on it/Praying for the End of Time Stop right there! I gotta know right now! Before we go any further--! I had thought that Leadership and Leadership Skills were bad. That teaching Leadership and expecting Eagles to have Leadership Skills were a bastardization of the program and generally a bad idea Or did I misunderstand?(This message has been edited by oldgreyeagle)

If a scout spends 5-6 years pledging he will do his duty to God and his COuntry, why would it be unusual that he would serve his Country in the military? it was what he was told to do everytime he said the Oath

Girl Scouts coming out with candy bars

I think it was 2008 Trails End came out with a Trail Mix for Venturing Crews to sell. As I remember it was pretty good stuff, The unfortunate part was that for even an accused unabashed BSAphile like me it was woefully and scandolously priced to the point of being embarassingly high
