  1. John 14:6 states: Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. There is no God but Allah. and Mohammed is his prophet(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  2. The Republican way of life is the only way of life, I know a few families to which this is the truth and the law The Democratic way of life is the only way of life, I know a few families (IE Kennedy)to which this is the truth and the law. The earth is the center of the Universe, this was the truth and law for centuries Depends what you consider law Murder is illegal, yet during a war, its state sanctioned so its ok.
  3. I have related this before, and will obviously relate it again, Pilate to Jesus: What is truth? is truth unchanging laws? We both have truths, are mine the same as yours? Jesus Christ Superstar Before we get information on the truth, perhaps we should define it.
  4. So bascially Venturing is just a program for guys and gals to hook up and there is no hope that any morals will be shown? That there cant possibly be a situation where males and females can see that they dont have to treat each other as chattel and both can think and express themselves in a non sexual manner? So, will there be a revolt against Venturing since its only result can possibly be an increased pregnancy rate?
  5. Ed, as far as I can tell, no one has said a scout "should" earn first class in 12-18 months. First Class emphasis is based on having a troop program that would allow an active scout to earn first class in 12-18 months. That means the opportunities exist within the structure of the troops program to have the scout advance. Nothing from national says the HAS to be First Class, they have to pass the skill requirements. As far as proof, I dont know, I know an active troop is more likley to have advancement and retain scouts, but is it the activity of the troop that retains the scouts or the advancement, I leave that up to those more erudite than I. I just know that arguing against having a program that allows the scout to advance to first class in 12-18 months seems mighty silly
  6. They could tell you, but then they would have to kill you ...
  7. Scouterfly, I have no doubt you heard what you say, but I would challenge that person to produce a reference in a BSA publication that supports that statement. If it aint written, its not true
  8. Simply yes, there is no provision against the scout or scouts family funding the project. If someone says there is, ask to see the rule in writing. The Eagle Leadership Project Workbook makes no such statement and i dont think you will see it anywhere else
  9. I have mentioned this before, but that wont keep me from rementioning. The Council in which I serve has a mandatory training rule for Cubmasters, Scoutmasters and Crew Advisors, and Sea Scout Skippers if we had a ship. For 2006, to renew a charter, the Committee Chair has to be trained as well. If the unit leader/advisor and committee chair is not trained then the unit will not renew its charter for 2006. How can an organization possibly deliver on a promise if the people charged with delivering the promise dont know what that promise is?
  10. Oh, so that was the disturbance in the Force, I felt it, but couldnt tell what the origin wa, now I know
  11. hey, Danny K, (like you never heard that one before) Anyway, dont let Heckle and Jeckle disturb you too much, just as fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly, they have to do what they do. I think another attribute of a strong troop is a strrong record of training the youth at District/Council lead trainng. NYLT (I hope I got the abbreviation right, otherwise correct me)is great for both participation and for being on staff. I am sure it depends on the program instructors, but its so valuable when youth hear the same message from multuple sources
  12. It is with some degree of regret, and with a large amount of relief that I anounce I am putting aside my moderator role. Scouter-Terry has arranged replacements I have worn down trying to decide what is and is not appropriate, and the last couple threads on rules and ethics did me in. The largest regret I have, amid everything, is that I was never able to make two postors quit attacking each other and realize that their own styles do more damage to their message than the other one ever will. At some point you would think that if you are constantly defending yourself from myriad posters, perhaps its not the posters who are at fault. When you ask the same questions just to see if you get an answer you like better than last you asked it, it just isnt funny, witty, or all that interesting. Why explain all this? Simple, I got tired, I have better things to do than explain myself to unlettered small-knowing souls who show themselves to be highly fed and lowly taught.
  13. OK, everyone, GROUP HUG!!!!! :-) done of course in a G2SS two deep leadership boy scouty platonic sort of way I am sure
  14. ...Well at least the thread on communist weapons dealers who happen to be scouters. The last few posts had begun to take on direct confrontational tones that really need to be in PM's. I am sure we can continue to bash each other in new and better threads. The topic had shifted to poster's styles. While its interesting and entertaining to see various types of communication styles, you do have to understand insults and sarcastic behavior is generally not going to cultivate change. Then again pointing out that someone is perceived to be insulting and sarcastic is likley not to produce a change either. It can be hard to accept that someone with a similar interest in a subject you are pasionate about (like scouting)can be so far off base of what you know to be true, but then thats the allure of these forums, exchanging information and being aghast at what someone, obviously inferior to you, thinks and defends with as much passion as you attack. At any rate, carry on, as I am sure you will.
  15. I couldnt find anything on the program "My Scout Badge" I did find these links which explain the alternative requirment process, it looks much more individualized than a national program might have been, anyway, I hope this helps http://www.scouting.org/factsheets/02-508.html http://www.usscouts.org/advance/boyscout/bsrankalt.html
  16. Pack, could it be because youth (scouts) are legally prohibited by state laws to use tobacco products while those of age are not enjoined by the same laws? I mean look at alcohol, scouts cant use that either as it would be illegal while adults ... Dave ... my mind is going... Dave... Daisy Daisy give me your answer do...
  17. In an unrelated thread, I brought up the subject of Venturers serving on staff for the Woodbadge of the 21rst Century and it was quesitoned. Who did/didnot have Venturer youth at their Woodbadge sessions?
  18. The youth are/were used on the 4th day to demonstrate the leave no trace campsite and officiate at the problem solving games. Each Patrol got a youth for the day and led them through various activities. You should see the expressions when YoungSpikedEagle and Campfire Fairy get up during the Woodbadge song and join in on the verse, "I used to be a staffer" As to why this COuncil uses Venturerers and yours didnt may be a quesiton better left up to the WOodbadge direcors in this forum, but I was told it was part of the curriculum.
  19. In the Council I serve, for the last two Woodbadge courses offered they have had Venturers on day 4 (so on a 2 3day weekend course thats a friday) Now, thats twice in 4 years so I dont detect a trend, but the Woodbadge course director had a letter to be sent to the school principal asking the student be excused for the day and listed what the student would be doing. So far no problems have been encountered. For a whole troop, or a community of troops? Not something I would want to start
  20. "Let the people decide throught their elected representatives. That is what our democracy is about." Actually the American government is not a democracy, its a republic, big difference
  21. Well, I am a as lazy a toad as Eamonn, but its 17 months from the time the scout joins, that assumes a 30 day time frame from the day they join until they make first class, because the tenderfoot exercise requirement says 30 days. Now, how practical is another story
  22. I was going to do this one, but another opportunity working with Scoutreach came along, but here is the gist; On a campout, schedule time for a discussion with the troop, after dinner on saturday would be good, after clean up, around a fire or in a cabin. The quesiton is, what is a normal family? Most kids will say a mother, father and children. Ask how many kids parents are divorced, how many have grandparents living with them or as primary care givers, how many are adopted, are there any foster children in the troop. What ethnic backgrounds are represented. What religions are present, are they all Christian or are there a Jewish, Islam, Hindu etc. members. Are there Physical handicaps, not just obvious ones, but hidden ones akso. If done well, it shows there is so much diversity right under out noses that we never notice. This will work if you already have a mix of the above, if your troop is pretty homogenic its not as powerful as if there are multiple examples of the above.(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
  23. Well at least this thread hasnt called for the eating of those scouts and scouters who dont wear the uniform properly
