In the Lehigh Valley where I live, there is a School Distric that did away with Validictorian and Salutorian because, as we know, we are all winners. The odd part was that they still play Football and compete in all athletic events and as far as I can tell, those are competitions and scores are kept, there are no exhibitions

wearing a costume to go to a movie? Last time I did that I was Riff Raff... -
The Council I serve does one, Its held on Kutztown University in Kutztown Pa. Its three COuncils and involves Cubs, Boy Scouts and Venturers. My good friend Pierre DuMonde will be the Venturing Camp Commissioner, but he prefers the term "Booshway". The event has been held on the grounds of Lehigh University (remenber them DUke fans?) Nazareth Speedway and 3 times now on the grounds of Kutztown University. I can tell you now that there will be no 150-300 feet between patols, there is barely a foot and a half between units. Cubs and Boy Scouts and Ventureres all camping in their own spots. Its more like a Carnival than a campout. Back when I was a youth we regularly had what was known a a "sidewalk" Campout, in the center of town and it was more of a festival of scouting and exposition that any thing else. This is pretty much the same. From cubs shooting BB guns to Ventureres watching movies in the university swimming pool. Its one big party. Is that wrong?

How about Axes, Scythe, Sickles, Sledge, Adze, Hoe, Garden Rake, Leaf Rake, and wasn't there a push garden cultivator known as a "boy scout", my father called it? Notice the lower case letters? Have those around with the straw and farm animals if you can Any antique or older tool would be cool as well as people using them for the intended purpose

Useful Troop Progress Metric

Actually, we may like to make fun of the comment "Total hours sitting indoors, side by side with adults of character But consider, Many of us are familiar with Basementdwellers situation, and while I dont always admire the way he expresses himself, he is an adult of charactor who may be the best role model many youth who he serves has and he may be the reason for saving a good number of them. Is the role model he provides something to laugh at? The group of youth he serves may not be able to do all the outdoorsy things scouts should do because of cost, but his prescence trying, even indoors, should not be discounted Would society as a whole be better off with many more Basementdwellers taking the time and energy to do what he does? I think so(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle) -

This is an event the Council puts on every 2-3 years, this will be the third time in a row it will be at Kutztown University (PA) It draws on three Councils, Minsi Trails, Bucks, and Hawk Mountain (I think) (This message has been edited by a staff member.)

First class in first year - or not
OldGreyEagle replied to Scoutfish's topic in Advancement Resources
Cricket, I agree that 2-3 times does not equal mastery, that is why I am an advocate of centering the Troops program around Scouting SKills and having the boys constantly use and refine their skills. You have the boy show the skill, but its never one and done, those skills come back on a constant basis into the troops schedule. Always centered on fun and enjoyment, but the adventure that Scouting promises is based on the skills you need to get to First Class -

Sorry for slight diversion, no more after this and we can get onto our regularly scheduled thread. When Pierre made his Capote, he searched hi and low for directions, the best one he could find is located here: http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/winter/gear/capote.htm Take a good long look at the link, Pack, you appreciate delicious irony, do you see it here? -

Well of course Dill Harris, the charactor in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, was based on Truman Capote. I did not purport to imply the actor in the movie was Truman. Although the coat my good friend Pierre DuMonde (the Voyageur) made out of a Wool Blanket wears is named Truman Capote for obvious reasons -
take a gander, not a chink to be found http://www.pekinhigh.net/facilities.html then again, I wont say that everyone in the Pekin area has adopted to the name Dragons, many residents proclaim they are a Chink forever kind of like Illini fans chanting Chief!, Chief! Chief!

50 years this year, always thought the movie with Gregory Peck was one of the best movie adaptations of a book ever. Everytime I read it, I want to start over and stay in the neighborhood that Scout describes and to think Dill Harris was a young Truman Capote, well actually, once you see the movie, its easy to imagine -
While the purpose of Religion may not be to bring people together, its purpose is to bring people to God. Then, of course, the question becomes which God where. Why, some may say, the God of Abraham of course, and them you decide which avenue to take, Christianity, Islam or Judaism. And thats just those three. It is possible for a religion to bring people to the God of their choosing, and as long as no one is harmed during that excercise all is good, the dilemma of course, is not harming others on your journey.

Welcome to the Crew, Brew, You may find that amoung the group there are several who are extremists, all things BSA are Bad, all things Leadership oriented are bad, all things Wood Badge are bad and a few others I am sure There are several voices of moderation, I leave it to you to decide who you feel most follows your own values and who to believe

venividi, I didnt mean you were the hijacker, I meant myself And Beavah, if you think, even for a second, that I am against any of the things that you posted "TO HAVE FUN AND ADVENTURE." What we have here is simply as Luke Jackson put it "A Failure to Communicate" And I am done with this topic, you are far to frustrating for me to continue -
