Reccomendations for Scout not compleating BOR

Attempted arson and all you want to do is slow down advancement? How about a return trip to a disipinary Board of Review where his fitness to be in the Troop is discussed with him? This shouldnt be just the scoutmaster talking, the entire weight of the Troop from Committee Chair down to the Asst Scoutmasters should show the boy and the troop that such behavior is not slap in the wrist time, but an actual offense that carries consequences. Now, I think the scoutmasters wishes should be honored, but also the boy needs to know its not just the socutmaster who is upset, its everyone -

At the Last Supper, Jesus did say, " Do this in remembrance of me" which is what the Catholic mass is, a re-enactment of the Last Supper But, back to the thread, I enjoyes Wood Badge and would encourage all who are interested in scouting to attend. it is fun to be in a group who take scoutng just as serious as you do -
Gold Wing, I realize you are relatively new to planet Earth. Owasippe is in the state of Michigan. Thats the one that sorta looks like a mitten in the middle of the Great lakes, well Lake Michigan on the west side and Lake Huron on the east with a touch of Lake Erie as well

Given some of the posts and discourse found here and in other post, why would any member of the LDS give us the time of day? Why should anyone care if the "denomination" they practice fits the definition of what someone else considers "Christianity"?

Why not have the PLC brain storm the issue and see what they come up with?

scoutldr Your last post, of course, begs the question how DO you steam a shrimp? Make fun of his religion something we do quite well apparently

Lets be sure that we realize the comment was "I've looked on a lot of women with lust. I've committed adultery in my heart many times. having the temptation and not following it is quite different than actively pursuing and acheiving said mission. It was not right, but certainly controling ones actions is key.

Extraterrestrial Leave No Trace?
OldGreyEagle replied to GernBlansten's topic in Camping & High Adventure
Well, now that the thread has turned silly (not that it was straight in the first place)I have to ask a question. In my first post, I said Mars, and then "mar ours". Did anyone catch that? I thought it was hysterical and all I got were crickets chirping in the night air. Please give me feedback, I'm workin' here -
Then again maybe it was Nancy Reagan's Just Say No Campaign, it just took awhile to set in Like Baseball Managers and Football Coaches et al the lead person gets way to much credit when things are going well and way to much blame when they are not. But even successful coaches always praise the team when they win and blames themselves when they dont It would be nice to have a politican apologize for something when its not part of a Rehab Tour because he had been found on some scandal After the scout not ready for Eagle and this thread I find myself in violent agreement with Beavah. And it scares me then again maybe I should be happy that Beavah is finally seeing things my way, yeah, thats the ticket, Beavah is seeing the logic of my thinking and is adapting it, yeah, thats it. Question, can I sell this to anyone else?

"...and he says that it isn't fair that I should expect him to act like a scout since a couple of his friends before him really didn't" So he knows how a scout is supposed to act like and knows he and others either have not or are not acting like scouts. Tell the scout if his logic is followed, then once a rule is broken and poor behavior accepted, that there is never any way to right the ship. In these situations, it is necessary for a leader to make a courageous unpopular stand. To say what was acceptable in the past is no longer acceptable. The scout can either become part of the revival of standards and expectations or a statisistic of it. What do you tell the next scout who says, Hey, you let "the scout" skate, its not fair to me, or the next scout or the next. You let the scout know what is expected in no uncertain terms and then follow it. The scout might scream all manner of things, but scouts who are watching the situation will realize the situation a change occurred and will adjust and even if just secretly be happy the ship was righted. Ask the scout, if situations can never be improved, how does anything ever get better? Then tell him what he will do to improve or the consequences of not improving

It was January 2, 2002. The day after all the bowl game, well most of them anyway. I was on my way to Salt Lake City, where the Company I serve is headquartered. I had to go through Atlanta. I was stuck at the Airport for 26 hours before we took off for Salt Lake City because of an ice storm. I am not sure what Bowl BYU was in, but I know most of the SLC attendees were going through Atlanta. We were on a plane, taxing around Hartsfield for 8 hours before we were brought back to the terminal the flight delayed some more. I got to know many of the pasengers of that flight. Mostly BYU students and Alums and their children. Might I add, very young children. No one got upset, no one raised any ruckus they all wanted to get home and were very pleasant even when they all ran out of diapers and all the airlines had to feed us was peanuts, snack crackers and soda. The children were as a group very well behaved, they were tired and cranky but always minded their parents. When we touched down in SLC, a heartfelt cheer went up. I often think about that experience. Eight hours on a plane, on the ground and we didnt take off. Back to the termianl and we didnt take off for another 8 hours. even when we took off it was 6 hours to SLC. I wonder, what the atmosphere would have been like had we been going to Philadelphia, Boston or Detroit? What the mood would have been and it scares me. Beleive, if you have to be trapped with any group of people in such a stressful position, pray to God they are LDS

Serving on the Advancement Committee, I also attend meetings to decide who will get what when "Heroism" awards are being considered. The number one issue the Council I serve has is getting a write-up that is adequate and coherent. Many times we hear of events that might qualify for an award, but it takes months to get the paper work completed. Then, on the other had, we get nominations seeking national recognitions for smelling smoke and getting out of the house.

we do have Peterb's post of this thread "I was in his troop in the late 70's. He always discouraged parents from getting involved. If he needed adult help, it was always "Mates", or 18-25 year olds that had graduated from his troop." so if there were 22-25 year olds present, that would qualify as the other adult. That is if we accept PeterB's post which we have no reason not to, then again... If Mr Evans molested youth then he needs to be prosecuted for it, I dont see anyone disputing that. It does make one wonder how comfortable Mr Evans was with all the attention focused on him and the Ship knowing his "secret" it must have driven him crazy, either with excitment or shame. I can imagine all the people who came to his defense, and how many are thinking about how this guy deceived them. A few years back the coach of the Canadian Youth Hockey Team was exposed as a child molester it took a brave hockey player to do so. Child molesters are real. They are not bogeymen, they are the real life monsters who live not under the bed, but in the home next door or around the corner. Very few times when a child molster is arrested are there comments such as "I knew it", "He was such a perv" etc. No, the comments are more like "He seemed so normal", "He was a good neighbor", "he was such a pillar of the comunity". If child molesters were easy to pick out, it wouldnt be such a problem, would it?

Bears vs Packers? Not much to debate when you consider a Superbowl Team was dismantled from within and the Bears are about to start their 33rd quarterback in 137 games while Favre has started well over 200 plus. And this from a guy whose Christmas list contains fatheads of Butkus, Sayers and Sweetness

Extraterrestrial Leave No Trace?
OldGreyEagle replied to GernBlansten's topic in Camping & High Adventure
I would think we should look about our own planet and see how the aliens who visited Earth left it as a cue on how to treat Mars. Since the pyramids of Eygpt and Machu Picchu are obviously alien landing sites and the Terraglyphs in Peru are alien navigational sites, I think we should not worry about how we treat Mars, they certainly didnt take care not to mar ours -
Ok, let me rephrase FScouters comment: For the life of me I will never understand why some people involved in the BSA seem to hate BSA so much. A long time ago I was a Dept manager in a hospital. There were some people in the Dept that just knew that the Dept was the worst run in the hospital and that the hospital was the worst run hopital in the world. It also should be noted that these people had never worked anywhere else. At one point I had a confrontation with an employee who said I was an idiot just like the three previous managers were all idiots and she couldnt beleive the hospital kept hiring such idiots. I commented that if she thought her last four managers were idiots, the common element was her and perhaps it wasnt the four managers who had faults. She didnt care for that response much. Some people just have to beleive that they are in the worst situation possible, that way when they fail, they can blame the situation, not themselves. "I am sure I could be a movie star if I could just get out of this place" Oddly enough these people never quit as they loved the misery they were in. People who had worked in other hospitals didnt have near the same attitude as those who only knew one place. When one hears such comments as the BSA only does things to CYA, or for money, or that the BSA program isnt real scouting and a bastardisation of B-P's program it does make you wonder why such comementers stay members of the BSA. Either the comments they make are just pique of the moment, not really as serious as they seem to look, or the people who make them love misery and stay within the BSA becaue they seek to be miserable. I think its the former, that people see something, denounce it and move on and when the comments are read they are read with far deeper and darker meanings than the original poster had. The alternative is that they love to be miserable and I dont really think that is true, is it? (This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)
