Blessed are you when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: the above has been around awhile

But Pappadaddy, how do we know what any of the biblical authors meant? We can be sure of other passages but not this one? What other ones are suspect to what they mean and what others are known for sure? Surely this can not be the only one which is a head scratcher(This message has been edited by oldgreyeagle)

I had thought I learned the reason for a neckerchief was to protect the neck from the sun and keep dust from getting in under the collor. This cannot be done without having the neckerchief over the collar. Call me old school, but I wear the necker over the collar

Matthew Chapter 19 12 There are eunuchs born so from their mother's womb, there are eunuchs made so by human agency and there are eunuchs who have made themselves so for the sake of the kingdom of Heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.' So, a eunoch made "by human agency" means someone was castrated. Someone who has "made themselves so", are those who have adopted a celibate lifestyle. But those who "Are born so from their mother's womb" just who are those? Remembering that the word eunoch used to mean a male who had no interest in women or procreating. This may have been covered before, but I missed it

BSA Favor Change In WV Constitution
OldGreyEagle replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Issues & Politics
I remember an older Hospital Executive who said when remodeling the lobby, a Hospital's Lobby should be impressive enough to create trust strength and hope in all that pass through yet still not mock the term "Not for Profit", it is indeed a tenuous dance It probaly applies to more than health care architecture -
Partnership Opportunities Between BSA and AHG

So, is it possible, that Scouting, whether Boy or Girl, actualy comes down to the premise, paraphaing a tad, that all scouting is local? That just because something is done in your neck of the woods, does not make it National Policy? Think of the thouands of scouters who do not visit our forum, I wonder what their views would be on the topics we cover. Could they be expressing a different viewpoint? Bet some would -
Future BSA President Intent to Eliminate the Ban on Gays

As I understand it, I think, Abraham Lincoln had progressive left types fawning over him as well. As did those who signed the Declaration of Independence... -
I am just about as gobsmacked as I ever have been. I recently went to Philmont as part of a Council Contingent. I just a check from Council "refunding" an amount that the letter said was "overpayment" of the Philmont fees. They had money left over and they gave it back to the people who paid it Its not always about the money, not always

I think Chuck Connors, AKA the Rifleman was a Chicago Cub, and played first base, save for the Cubs having Mr Cub at First, ol' Chuck might have stuck as you didnt have to be all that good to play for the Cubs during that era heck, any era And as we slide back, all I can think of is The end of the Civl War was near When quite accidentally, A hero who sneezed....

And to think, Wikipedia was so close as welll... Well, at least I got Keith Jackson right, I think
-
Andy Devine? I always thought when Jingle Jones broke up a fight on the old Roy Rogers Show, that was a case of Devine Intervention. And besides, as Keith Jackson, as well as Jingles might say, Whoa Nellie! I understand that at times some posters can take on the persona that they, and only they, understand the Scouting Program that B-P began and these posters appear to wrap themselves in the snow white armor of Scouting Principles and the rest should just thank Providence they deign to share their thoughts with the rest of the forum but once you learn to ignore us, this place is a treasure trove of scouting information and advice

Bacchus my man, I admire your passion, but why would you argue with those whose minds are already made up?

Before we decide what B-P would have thought about female leaders, perhaps we should listen to him first Check out http://thescoutingpages.org.uk/speeches.html BP Gives a Talks to Scouts Listen to what he says at the 3:05 mark, B-P says he wants "... More young men and even young women to come forward as scoutmasters..." So apparently he was not as misogynistic as he is being portrayed. Can we do research before we declare what/how/who a dead person was or do we just make up things as we go along?

So, the epaulette is the strip of cloth on the shoulder that buttons down. The ribbon is the thing that ha color. Although technically the strip of cloth has color as well as its not invisible... At the Denver airport comming back from Philmont the airport was full of scouts. One group had orange ribbons on and were wearing CSP from New Jersey so I told one youth "You are the first varsity scouts I have ever met east of the Mississippi" he said "Huh?", I said you are wearing the orange ribbons of Varsity and he said, no, our troop has an High Adventure patrol and we wear the orange ribbon to be different. So, I said, oh like a Venture Patrol and he got an irritated look in his eye and said, No, we are a High Adventure patrol. Never heard of a Venture Patrol Can we just dump the uniform and move on?

I think the one Oath initiative is a good idea and may be serving as a step to the next logical move. We get One Oath and then we have one program. Scouts America. Co-Ed and ranging from Tigers to 21 years old. Why else would they make it one Oath if not to bring the programs together?(This message has been edited by oldgreyeagle)

I have always thought the best way to kill a thread was to ignore it and let more active threads take it's place. If people respond then there must be a market for it.

The Order of the Arrow has at its heart promoting Camping. At least that's what I have been told multiple times over the years. Consider that for some reason, Venturers could be elected to the OA. They would have to fulfill some sort of Camping requirements and then consider that a Venturing Crew can be High Adventure, Arts and Hobbies, Religious Life, Sports or Sea Scouts, How do the last 4 use Camping as an integral part of their Program? Leave the OA alone, an accomplished Venturer, male or female, youth or adult does not need membership in another organization. If the Corps of Discovery isn't enough (and I am not sure its viable) then Venturing really doesnt need it My opinion only, of course

Weighty Matters at Philmont...
OldGreyEagle replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Camping & High Adventure
To be clear I am talking about obese people with rolls of fat, not muscular behemouths. And, why would any employee of a High Adventure Camp be on the hook for not allowing an under tall/ over weight leaqder on the trail? The standards are published. If a bunch of youth can't hit the trail because the advisors are too fat, thats not the Camps fault. Its the adults themselves and who ever thought it prudent to send them to the Camps. The only thing the BSA can do wrong in this situation is not follow their own rules and thats what I saw I will be at the Jamboree next July, I'll let you know what I see -
Weighty Matters at Philmont...
OldGreyEagle replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Camping & High Adventure
I saw on the trail, on treks, guys who had rolls of fat hanging down. When I was checked in, the EMT doing the medical review said he eyeballs weight. I thought there would be a scale, there was none. Perhaps the staff changes from week to week but I am distressed that at the random nature of the weight issue. Maybe having a scale is a bit much, but so is making such a big deal about weight and then ignoring it -
So, back from Trek 30 at Philmont and the number one impression I have is how just plain overweight some of the people on the trail were. I was aghast. After having our Council Rep keep telling us how serious BSA was about the weight limits, I was completely numb when I saw some of the rolly pollies walking around. I am not talking about big muscular guys, I mean the guys and girls with rolls and layers of fat (look up the word panniculus) that I had thought was the reason for the weight limits in the first place. I had thought the BSA was serious about being taken serious and all I can say is, BSA serious about weight? Not so much
