  1. Then why did the UN keep passing final resolutions?
  2. If grammar is important, correct speliing even more so Iraq, not Iran.
  3. So, what if George Bush never did go to war against Iran. And Saddan Hussein did have the weapons of mass desctruction that the world said he had and he implied he had. The UN passed what was it, 18 Final Resolution for him to honor the peace treaty that ended the war caused by Iraqs invasion of Kuwait and he refused and all that happened. And Bush does nothing for 8 years and leaves and the country is so-so. Not a real economic boom going on, but not a recession either. And in the first year of the next president's administration Iraq backs a terrorist attack that makes 9-11 look like a minor bump in the road, or for that matter, just the same. What would Bush's legacy be then? What information would come out that "everyone knew" or that Bush knew and did nothing about it? Would not W be reviled because he "knew" and did nothing? He did something, he was wrong, but an act of commission is better than one of omission (This message has been edited by oldgreyeagle)
  4. So, as we have seen we have quite the diverse cross section of Scouters and Scouts here. From all parts of the globe and every aspect of thought and political leanings. I read some of the circumstances people face with DE's, Distrcts, Council and the like and just tremble. I thank the Lord I am in a Distrct and COuncil that functions pretty close to what I would consider normal. I know my DE and have worked with him on a few projects and he is an alright guy. I am on a few COuncil COmittees and feel like mostly My work is valued. I would hate to be in the position that some people describe of uncaring, unfeeling Distrcts and COuncils. Is there anything that can be done? WHen I see someone complain that Distrct Events suck, my first impulse is to say well help them out, but if your help is rebuffed, or if you have no time to work with your unit and with Distrct it is indeed a quandry. The unit comes first, the youth are to be served first and them move on frpom there but are there any stories about how an untenable situation with s Distrct ot Council became at least tenable?
  5. as my dear ol' sainted mother used to say Hey, you get out of that tree this instant, if you fall down and break both your legs, don't you come running to me...
  6. I think you all need a kleenex with all the crying that is going on
  7. Thats easy Pack, the best feature of a Romney presidency is it wont be Obama. Just like Obama's best feature was he wasn't named Bush. Waiting to see the dreck that 2016 produces, this one is over Oh yeah, Obama wins. Anyone remember the Bob Dole Campaign for Presdent? He didnt really look good until 2 weeks after the election... This feels like a repeat
  8. Well now, check out the following: http://www.celticfest.org/events its the host of the 2012 U.S. National Highland Athletic Championships and all contestants will be kilted. Tossing the caber, heaving the rock , throwing the hammer or tossing the sheath is not for wimps many kilts will be worn and only the truly unsophisticated will sirk at men in skirts
  9. Ah yes, pedophiles are not homosexual or heterosexua, they are pediphiles or ephebophiles depending on which word you prefer and the age of the victim involved Either way they are not Gay or Straight
  10. Oh... Humor.... I can be quite the literalist at times and beleive people mean what they say/type WHich is of course why I enage in hyperbole so often to be sure people know what I am saying is not what I actually beleive As I have said a trillion times before, I 'll try to do better
  11. CAN you wear a kilt as part of a Boy Scout uniform? Certainly, if you are wearing them correctly no one will take them off you... Should you wear them? Sorta reminds me of the argument of why people join organizaitons and then don't follow the organization's rules. There is no mention of a Scouting kilt in the uniform guide. Could a Venturing Crew include a kilt? aye Should they? Depends on how the collective crew's legs look...

  13. First Congratulations to all, next "LisabobSon" ? WHen did you start imitating Mr Miyagi?
  14. While the Democrats may have developed a Cult of Personality around President Obama, the Republicans have done a good job of cannonizing St Ronald of Reagan, whose popularity I didn't understand when he was president and less now
  15. I agree, I have not seen a whole bunch of bumperstickers, but I have seen a whole bunch of canned "Facebook" shares that leave me speechless. Why would a copy and paste article from the Republican/Democratic party or any number of PAC groups and think it will change anyone's mind?
  16. Way Way back when I was in Grad School I had a Political Science Professor who was fond of saying "there is no free lunch" Perhaps this is a life lesson which we need to instruct not only our scouts, but all citizens, nay residents There is no free lunch, or health care, or jobs, it all comes at a cost
  17. If the scout knows the Counselor is getting paid, what is the issue? We do pay teachers to educate our children. Just as long as the COunselor gets paid whether the Merit Badge is earned or not
  18. "Oderint, dum metuant." = Let them hate, so long as they fear So teaching the youth its all about power and having people fear you is a good thing?
  19. THe Morning Call is published in Allentown (where all the factories closed down) one town over from Bethlehem where I live. I can tell you that the paper seemingly has a vendetta out on the Catholic Church. Anything that hints of church impropriety gets a front page story. Then again, I could be just overly sensitive ANyway, its par for the course for this paper

  21. So, I have watched this thread for awhile now and have a question and an Observation. First, and somehow I know this will get missed, but I will put it here first: what happended was wrong, the youth is not responsible for the membership policy of the BSA and there was no call for the adult to do what he did Now, that was the Observation, now the question How is what happended any different that a Snipe hunt, a hunt for a left handed smoke shifter and the like? The scout was out doing what he was told to do and was met with ill mannered opposition. In the past when Snipe Hunts are discussed and I oppose them, I get met with the argument the youth just have to toughen up and not take things so seriously. WHy is thay not an option here? That some people don't like the BSA is a life lesson that unfortunately needs to be learned. If 11 is an age when Popcorn may be sold door to door without an adult, then 11 is when the youth can face the possibility that everyone they meet is not their friend, or nice or civil. Abusing the trust and innocence of a child, for any reason, is just flat wrong, in any situation

  23. Well, then, I think some apologies are in order and Packsaddle is not the one to be offering them Good Job Pack
