the little lady is correct, dead on and otherwise right A patrol needs only the Scoutmaster's permission to have a patrol campout, no adults required. Remember the movie "Stand by Me"? Those codes were essentially a patrol and they were alone. Let them do it PS: if the State Park requires an adult to be with minors, of course the rules have to be followed(This message has been edited by oldgreyeagle)

Dogma is a pretty interesting movie, always wondered how it would play if it satirized the Muslim faith the same way it toasted the Catholic Church -
So, what is this Adventure Scouts USA organization????
OldGreyEagle replied to GNX Guy's topic in Open Discussion - Program
hey, its a nice website and I like the name of their coalition, "Charactor Counts". it has a nice ring to it, almost like I had heard it before, but I can't quite put my finger on it... -
Remember the infamous "wardrobe malfunction" involving Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake at the Super Bowl a few years back? The Jackson/Timberlake duo was the second act, Kid ROck was the first act and he came out wearing an American Flag as a poncho, I was postive that would be a big scandal, after Jackson's malfunction, I am not sure it was ever mentioned, but it was wrong

Why would anybody give their partial blue card to an anonymous person who posts on Scouter.Com?

tell you what, if you would have said the democrats are the new Khmer Rouge I would have closed the thread just as I would have if you said the Democrats were the Idi Amin's of the 21rst Century. Tell me what the democrats have done that parallels Krystelnacht, tell me the name of the Democrats Gestapo, tell how you came to the conclusion that the Democrats are the Nazis of the 21rst Century. Dont talk about political correctness, dont talk about censorship tell me the logic that brings you to the conclusion that Democrats are like the Nazis. Anything else is empty rhetoric trying to take the interest away from the statement The Democrats are the Nazis of the 21rst Century.

I am a member of Minsi Trails Council, centered in Allentown PA with some of New Jersey. We have required training for all contact leaders for some time now, 5 or more years I think. You have to have an active Training Committee, heck, the Scoutmaster of the Troop I serve is the Council Training Chair and you have to have strong District training Chairs with dedicated scouters to serve as trainers and each district offers each training componenet once a year. Scheduled every 2 months apart most training is offered somewhere bimonthly. Units not complying are dropped, pure and simple and with a culture of training is good, people accept they need to be trained. Its hard to deliver a promise when you dont know what it is

I dont know how things work in your District, but in the one I serve something like this could be an agenda item at the District Committee meeting. The issue of having the Blue Cards would be discussed with the suggestion that if any supporting documentation may be found it may be required, but until then it is not

You know, I thought I made it clear about Nazi references. To make Nazi references when people in no way are approaching the horror the absolute horror of the Holocaust is reprehensible and repugnant. So, what do we have, if you refer to a scoutmaster as a Hitler or the PLC as using Gestapo tactics, what does that teach the kids? That anyone they term over bearing or abuses power are Hitlers or the Gestapo? Does that not cheapen the entire experience of the people who suffered and died? Why does Germany during WWII have to be the main reference of things some people don't like. Just like having kids kill and maim in video games, they become inured to violence. To use Nazi terms inures them to the Nazis legacy. As a kid I would ride the Skokie Swift to my Grandmother's house and in the 1950's there were quite a few passengers who had tattoos of numbers in what a small child thought were odd places. Arms for the men, across legs for older teenagers as when they were in the camps their arms werent big enough to have all the numbers placed. In the summer, in the heat all the tattoos would be visible and the place was quiet. I remember staring and an old man and the tattoo on his arm, he saw me staring at him and just had the most remote, far away look in his eyes. With all the words in the english language, with all the resources available to us, the best we can do is yell Nazi or make WWII references?

Mandated mediocrity: Political Correctness
OldGreyEagle replied to kraut-60's topic in Issues & Politics
Actually being the self-declared independent that I think I am I was happy someone called me liberal and left leaning as I thought most of my most recent posts were pretty right leaning and conducive to conservatives, this accusation should pull me back to the center -
NJ, you, I think, were the only one to respond to my repeated questions about Biden being a plagerist. And you said because he didnt atribute a quote. Was that it? He forgets to say who said a sentence or a paragraph and he was so disgraced he had to drop out of the race? I dont remember much about the situation, but was it that simple? Why was it deemed such a charactor flaw at the time? it doesnt sound like it was such a big deal, I mean it wasn't Muskie crying on camera or anything like that

Diversity thoughts?

Ed, what was the reason for that Cub Scout Soccer program again? -
The smart aleck answer would be to ask the person where thats written and until it can be found, it wont be done. The other tactic is to fond out why such a request is thought to be necessary and go from there. Bottom line it can't be done, well actually it can be done because as you have seen it was done. But its not right. Again, find out why

Just to be sure I didnt miss a memo, how does a youth younger than 14 join Venturing?

Alcohol at Eagle Court of Honor Reception
OldGreyEagle replied to ScoutDad2001's topic in Advancement Resources
I was wrong I was looking at an Eagle Court of Honor as being different than a Troop Court of Honor, but upon reflection, its the same thing. The Troop I serve has a tradition of having Eagle Courts of Honor separate and apart from Troop Courts of Honor and I was drawing a distinction between the two and I should not. I do think that if a family has an Eagle Court of Honor in its home and elects to serve adult beverages, I am not sure how to stop them. Troop adults can leave, but to tell someone that in their own home they are enjoined from serving alcohol due to BSA policy is not an argument I want to make. And to be sure I understand, so its my sisters confirmation. All the cousins are there, from all over the place. The adults have a beer keg and the kids have a brand new garbage can filled with soda soaking in ice water. My parents are criminals? Hold the phone, we better build bigger prisons and quick -
Alcohol at Eagle Court of Honor Reception
OldGreyEagle replied to ScoutDad2001's topic in Advancement Resources
Would you mind posting your reference that the Eagle Court of Honor is a unit function? I have been looking and have not found such a thing. That is not to infer it doesnt exist, I would just like to know where it is. -
Didnt the BSA just do away with the "Divisions"? In that case, these might be something of a novelty

I understand Pack, it was an attempt to explain the origination of the word not judgemental, but speakign of which... There is something called the "Red Neck Comedy Tour" and we have had threads here on the forum talk about "Red Neck" Themed Camporees. What do we think about that?

What has been done Quartermastering in the past? Why do you think the new QM wants to use this method? If the Quartermaster has never addressed the PLC on anything, why should he now? Does this draw an implied message that the scoutmaster doesnt like this idea, thats why it went to the PLC so they can deny it and move on? Have the Quartermaster explain the system at a scout meeting and then see how he lives with the results. Who knows, it may work or it may not, either way, its his choice and experience.
