Pack, Pack, Pack, Silly Pack, You want them to rationally discuss issues and arrive at a consensus designed to move the Country forward rather then play to the fears and biases of their base? Is any talk show designed primarily to educate or entertain? I do know the number one function of any program, TV or Radio is to make money and that is the number 1 priority Then again, if there needs to be an Organization to oversee the protection of the First Amendment, I nominate the author of this comment to lead it, I beleive it to be very true: "I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say, 'We are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration.'"(This message has been edited by oldgreyeagle)

Does that mean Air America stations would have to broadcast Limbaugh, Hannity or Savage?

well Jet (hanging head humbly) I have never noticed what knot he tied before he went over the edge. I will have to pop in the DVD and check that out

What is the most dated scouting skill requirement?

What is the most dated scouting skill requirement? Living your life by the Scout Oath and Law -
Actually, I think it was Lem who couldn't tie a sheep shank to prove to the POW commander he was a scoutmaster
-
Not that what is being done is correct, because it certainly doesnt seem so, however, the Eagle application does have a space now to list the total man hours spent on the Eagle Project, so getting the scout to think in terms of man hours is a good thing. The rest of the "Stump-the Chump" game is pretty poor however

What is the most dated scouting skill requirement?
OldGreyEagle replied to Frank17's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I see the scouting requirments some are seeing as archaic in the same light I see the value of a Liberal Arts education. Learning knots, compass work, how to identify plants and trees, etc. teaches youth how to learn. Knots seem so hard and impossible but with practice, the rope begins to obey the fingers and the strands lay correctly and voila, a bowline, a tautline hitch. Its a challenge and one that its accomplishment is measureable, He couldnt do it before, but now he knows he can. Overall relevance of scouting skills is dependent on the Troop program. If the scout doesnt need the skill of knot tieing, well, he won't retain the skill. If he has opportunity, he will do fine -
<p>So you have your family in their full uniforms, either in front of the ol' fireplace or somewhere else that is recognized as your home, then the outside captoin reads <P> <p>May the Joy of Your Holiday Season be the same as Our Camping"<p> <p>and then you open it up <p> <p> INTENSE <P>

If its recognized that Limbaugh, Hannity, etc are just for entertainment, is there any truth to the rumor that the "fairness" doctrine is im jeopardy or is that just more rhetoric to spew?

The whole Mormon thing - prop 8 in CA

if the best you can do is call names, then you don't have much of a rebuttal -
then again, the guy who started this all was a middle age guy who was not married. Not having kids didnt stop B-P from starting the scouting movement and no one, that I know of. thought him a creep, just a guy with a great idea. Turned out pretty well I think

Now... Eleven Executive Priorities for Obama

you know, if hospitals actually got paid for what it cost to provide services to Medicare/Medicaid patients, then the "Cost" of healtch care would go down for everyone -
Should we limit leadership to one type of person?
OldGreyEagle replied to Beavah's topic in Open Discussion - Program
when I think about this thread, I wonder why no one has pointed out the obvious as yet. Then again, I didnt think about it until now. The whole Scouting Movement was designed and implemented by an individual who was not yet married, had no children and was not close to having any. Yet B-P started Scouting. B-P is regarded as a great man, not creepy -
As usual, I got distracted. I am not talking about women and men's voting rights, or Prop 8 themselves per se. I mean, how do "the people" change the culture in which they are living if they find the present culture either too rigid or too lax, either works. How does "the people" change society?
-
Seeing as how amendments can be repealed , what if the 19th amendment was repealed? Now, all this admiitedly theoretical of course. The Constitution gurantees life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Not a guranatee of happiness mind you but not a right to vote
-
SO, women could take away a man's right to vote but California can't define marriage as between a man and a woman?
-
Would it not be a good idea to only allow referranda that were constitutional? Or is that too loaded a question? Or is that allowing more Court interaction? First off, I don't see a real problem if Gays were allowed to marry. This is more of an issue as to whether or not "the people" have a right to shape the society in which they live and how do they accomplish it?

I only use Godwin's law when I see the word Hitler or Nazi myself. Also I would probbaly add SS if the context was right. Whatever happened it wasn't me. Now, I don't think I explained myself correctly. I will try again. Lets say I think we elected an unqualified candidate to be President. However, the people have spoken, we would have what we have. So the people of California passed Prop 8. They also have spoken. How can the will of the people be something that must be obeyed one time and not another? OK, so the answer back may be but selecting leaders is different than setting the rights of a minority, or rather limiting them in this case. But it is still the will of the people. When people say Government by the People, Of the People and For the people this is what sometimes happens. For people who disagree with me, how do you argue that the people are right when selecting their leadership and not right when it comes to establishing the social context in which they wish to live? Do you see, perhaps not understand why, there is the appearance of an inconsistency between saying elections of leadership are the will of the people and must be upheld but voting on values the majority hold dear is not? It does play into the idea that the results of an election are ok as long as I agree with them. The People were right when they selected Obama, he a great man and the American people certainly showed their wisdom and intelligience in electing him, but they are totally clueless when it comes to Gay rights, how did these morons even find their way to the polling places? I see an apparent oxymorpn Another argument may be ok, so if the people vote that anyone with a background in Scouting must now pay triple income tax. I would have a choice, to either stay and pay or leave, a third would be stay and fight and realize I am trying to change a culture. It is said sooner or later people get the government they deserve, but sometimes the apearance is we get the government the Courts want to give us

perhaps because "Live Free Or Die" is New Hampshire's state motto Anyway, have a general observation. Obama is the President elect, his supporters say he won, the people have spoken and for those who supported McCain to just get over it and move on. And, they are right. Obama will be president, thats it case closed. So, now, Prop 8 passed in California and there is talk about the ACLU getting involved and the proposition being termed unconstitutional et al. What happened to the hey, the proposition "won", the people have spoken, its time to move on? If the people in California do not want same sex marriages to be recognized by the state, why involve the courts, when is the will of the people to be obeyed, Obama is president and when is it to be ignored, Prop 8?

Mark 12:17 And Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were amazed at Him. -
The whole Mormon thing - prop 8 in CA
OldGreyEagle replied to ScoutMomSD's topic in Issues & Politics
Are we sure about this story? One of the requirements for by the Joint Commision for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)is to honor the request of the patient to have a significant other. Hospitals have to be JCAHO accredited to receive Medicare reimbursement. If this story is true, I apologize as her life partner had every right to be with her and will have to rethink my whole approach -

If we are going to go down the road of why gay couples need to be able to get married. Can we get one reason off the list? Whenever reasons for gay couples to get "married" comes up, somehow hospitals and visitation rights gets mentioned. Now, that is not an issue. Hosptals for several years have recognized the term "significant other" and those designated as the SO has the same right as the spouse or parent. Actually, the term spouse isnt used anymore, SO is. So, lets leave hospitals out of this. -
Who was it that booed Boy Scouts presenting the flag during a National Political Convention? It was youth that were booed, not policy makers, not employees, but youth. No side, Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Conservative, or whatever you have has the high moral ground on behavior. Any side has what is referred to in Philadelphia as the "jabroni" Factor. I also heard the clip of the woman who said if Obama wins she wont have to pay her mortage, etc but c'mon folks, do we truly beleive that person represents the mainstream of people who voted for him? Of America? I am not happy Obama won, but life goes on. I have to say, in eastern PA where I live I got plenty of those automated phone call thingies. One from Bill Clinton, One from Joe Biden and one from Obama. Last Sunday in a steady rain a Obama worker was going house to house talking about Obama. I got "real" phone calls twice asking who I would vote for from the Obama campaign. Calls from the Republicans?Nada, zero, zip, bupkis, Front Door Bell ringers the same. The republicans bailed on McCain

Well, a few non-politically correct obsevations Now that we have a black president elect, does that mean Louis Farrakhan stops calling the US racist? As we just elected a black president? Then again, I thought we were electing a presidnt, someone to lead us, leastwise thats what I thought And speaking of Louis Farrakhan, does Obama's election eliminate the reason for Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and other noted "black leaders" to exist? (actually I was never sure who voted for them in the first place) Having Obama as president in kinda like when Vanessa Williams won the Miss America pageant, it made Miss Black America passe. Does this make Jackson/Sharpton et al passe?
