Two councils ago while we were all still in Cubs there was a church based troop that I was very interested in. Somewhere along the line they had invested in one of those carnival food truck trailers that serve up heart attack on a stick. The suburban city we were in had a big 4 day carnival every year and for those 4 days the boys and parents manned that truck AM to PM. The proceedes funded the whole program. EVERYTHING, including summer camp. Not sure about HA as I was not really aware of it at that time so didn't ask.

Welcome! Enjoy a snack on me.

Current troop is $175 includes national registration. Campouts are a base $15 for food plus the cost of activity, gas. All fundraiser income goes to ISA. (I know, I know but I do not make the rules anymore). Troop pays full cost of NYLT on completion. Old troop paid 1/2 on completion. CO does not contribute funds.

@@Stosh I am astonished you give JTE the time of day. You just don't strike me as the type. Paperwork.

Except the underwear and part of socks in the shoe. Hats, chairs, outside of sleeping bag, mat, cot (if bringing your own). I set up a clothes line in the back porch and spray it all down as long as it isn't to humid it is all dry the next morning. Should last through six washing if kept sealed and out of the sun. Some just mix it up in a bucket and dip the clothes. The US military supplies a kit with a bottle and zip lock bag for agitating with uniforms in the field. You can purchase the prediluted bottles like Sawyers, but that gets really expensive. It has a slight odor but my oldest and I don't have a problem with it. My wife just hates it. Will have to see this year about my youngest as he is always complaining about smells. Spray down a shirt or something and see if you can deal with it.

@@barry. So what is National's solution ? MAKE IT SIX YEARS AND EVEN MORE WORK ON THE LEADERS. Most people are just don't have the creativity or time to spend 4 hours preparing for and sourcing the materials for a den meeting. Your observations are interesting becuase in three different Packs I have not seen one female DL although a couple of assistants.

I might give that a try as well. Although a cave would be more fun.

Scoutstuff.org was recently clearing out the larger sizes (52, 54, 56) of the pants and shorts for $4.95 each so I bought some. So far they are holding up really well in the out of doors. They don't have cargo pockets but I find them very comfortable. I call them my SE pants becuase I have never seen anyone else wear them. They are dry clean only but I will probably just use woolite in my front load washer and let them drip dry. Fortunately I am done with the 56 and down to the 54s. Might just have the 52s altered until I fit into the standard sizes again. That's what really pisses me off about Scout Uniforms, they shrink.

I bought nets a few years ago but never used them. Instead I sprayed everything down with Permetrin and use a bit of 3M Ultrathon (deet) on my face and arms. I have used the 10% and 36% concentrates of permethrin and just dilute down to .5% in a gallon sprayer. Spray the outside of the house and back yard every few weeks in summer to cut back on the bugs as well. Used in MO and IL where the mosquitos are moderately bad but the other big concern is the ticks and netting is not going to do much for those. All camp clothes get sprayed with permethrin and put in ziplock bags to preserve its effectiveness. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IMO3I2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 You can wear pants, long sleeves, duct tape and ice in your hat like Stosh if you prefer the more crunchy organic granola route.

It never ceases to amaze me people can't find an hour or so to get the minimal training done online. YPT take 1/2 hour or less. This is Scouting and whatever leader specific is maybe another hour, although it has been a several years since I did this online. I much preferred the classroom training. An hour away from Facebook is not going to kill you.

It will be interesting to see what kind of interactions occur between BSA Troops and TL Troops. Even between the more conservative and progressive BSA Troops. -
What else do you have to do while fishing other than sit there and tie knots?
-
We will no longer have membership declines but "membership churn". Expect lots of tricks such as Early Scout Termination Fees, 2 year contracts, MB Caps and camping overage fees.

Influence the numbers, this could also be a decrease. Let your cat out at night.

Didn't they come back all corrupted? -
Someone needs to guide APay&Pay into 2016. Mobile is OK, but home internet is the worst, I kicked them out a few months ago.

. Precisely. It is a youth organization and that is all adults should be in OA, chauffeurs and maybe a little advising. It is a great honor being selected because you have a car and money for gas, you are helping to fulfill the purpose of the OA.

Something to give in place of badge at graduation?

What is the point of a Cub Scout Carnival anyway? Seems really lame to me. -

I know you are well schooled in the era so do you have any of the breakdowns of that vote? Such as of those who were blessed with only 3/5ths of a vote, how did they "turn out "? -
Take care. "All done with Scouting..." Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

@dfplson Just like the Gieco Commercials. When on Scouter.com you argue, many times over pointless distinctions and issues. It's what you do.

@@Krampus. IMHO it is college sports scholarships that took us off the rails. There are very few academic scholarships these days. A totally messed up situation. My wife worked with a guy who got a full flight Bowling scholarship. -
