I don't know what direction you want to take it in, but around here farming is common. Instead of your average farming, I'd imagine a local event would show how people farmed and homesteaded before electricity. Have a logging demonstration with a mule team, sheep herding, blacksmithing, just something to represent frontier/rural living. Axe and saw stuff is always cool, so set up an area where 2 man teams get to compete at sawing off logs. Or maybe you can have an area focused on soil/water conservation and land management. Hope you guys have fun

I'm with blw2 and Eagle92. If we can't have an official uniform that has patches and sets us apart, then why do we have a structured scouting program? This isn't a school club. I could care less if a kid from my school saw me in my unform. I like my shirt and would feel strange without it.

I highly suggest you come to North Carolina. We have 600 years of Anglo history, big cities, small towns, southern cookin', nature, mountains,beaches, and anything else you can think of. You can fly in to one of our airports and then take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, taking sidehikes and history tours along the way. Or, you can go to the Outer Banks, see the Atlantic from a different perspective, visit lighthouses, and take history tours as well. So basically, you can fit a wide variety of adventures into a 3-4 hour radius of airports in the cities of Raleigh, Charlotte, or Greensboro.

Shooting with the Boy Scouts is amazingly safe, but still watch out for stupid people. Safety is the most important thing here. I shoot competitively at the scholastic level and love it. Rifle shooting merit badge sort of steered me in that direction, and I think the scouts who don't do this kind of stuff will really enjoy it. Have fun!

Wow, I can't believe the "Latino Rebels" pushed them until the patrol changed. I have seen a number of Border Patrol patrols before. Since when is it politically incorrect to support those who enforce laws ie. patrol borders for illegal immigrants? Before we know it, we won't be able to have the Viking patrol name to please northern Europeans.
