  1. Luke 17:11-19 "and Jesus laughed"
  2. I would never entertain a suggestion to use unit, district, or council resources soley to benefit the children of unit leaders.
  3. Annual financial reports are available through your council office, and are compiled once a year by law as a 501-c organization. As a private organization they are not required to publish them publicly, just as in the case of your church. I presume the National Council does the same.
  4. In a way what you suggest is done in many different forms across the country, usually on a council or council cluster level. It has names like; Show and Do, University of Scouting, College of Commissioner Science, Pow Wow etc., as well as on a national basis at the Philmont Training Center in New Mexico. One of the main reasons you do not see it done on a large scale more often is that it would require human and financial resources that would be better spent on direct service, programs and resources for the youth members we serve. 5. If Dave is hovering he could give you a more exact answer, but basically the SE (Scout Executive) is an employee of the BSA that is contracted to serve within a local council. They answer to both the council's Executive Board and to a Regional Director (I believe that is the title) of the BSA. The 50 states are divided into 4 regions. The BSA's oversea councils are managed by directors who answer directly to the National Council. The BSA determines who is eligible to apply for a position opening and sets a salary range based on the size and resources of the council. The council executive board however sets the actual salary and partners with the Scout Executive and other local BSA professionals to set and meet local goals. The actual management tree varies greatly from council to council based on the size, needs, and resources of the specific scouting community.
  6. Ours is held in April. We will present training awards, Quality Unit Awards, The Quality District Award, Scoutmaster Award of Merit, Rountable Attendance Awards, recognize the various event chairs of the past year, and present the District Awards of Merit. Haven't got a clue what they are serving yet.
  7. Where did I say I had enemies? Where did I say that I did not love my neighbors? Where, for that fact, did I say I did not love my enemies? And where in the Bible am I encouraged to embrace those that reject God? Your question Achilleez is false and misleading. The premise you base it on was never established ,and was in fact fabricated by you as part of your question. Your choice of disbelief is your free will to make. But I am neither required to agree with it, or give comfort to it, and neither is the BSA. I welcome others to give their opinion of how I have represented my beliefs in this discussion. But no matter what they are, I do not expect that they will sway either of us from the paths we have chosen.(This message has been edited by Bob White)
  8. Achilleez, If you have no interest in entering into God's house, why would you possibly care about coming into mine? If someone was to be disrespectful to my father, they would not be welcome in my house. If someone is disrespectful to my Father, they are not welcome in my home.
  9. A guy sits alone at a bar, drinking his beer. From out of nowhere, he hears a voice say, "You look great, man! Have you lost weight?" He looks around, and confirms that the only other person in the bar is the bartender, who is all the way at the other end of the bar. He shrugs it off, and takes another drink of his beer. "That's a really nice suit. It looks good on you," the voice says again. The guy looks around, and before he can say anything, the voice says, "You have very nice eyes." The guy freaks out, and shouts, "Hey, bartender! Come here!" As the bartender arrives, the voice speaks again. "That's a nice haircut!" "Who keeps talking to me?!" The guy asks the bartender. "Oh, that?" The bartender says, "It's the peanuts. They're complimentary."
  10. A beautiful blond walks into a bar........... she forgot to duck.
  11. First is it your scenario that a naked, starving man is going to show up at somebody's door and say "hi, I am an atheist"? Do you mean that you have no problem believing that could happen , but you cannot believe that God may exist? Your scenario seems far more unlikely than God. Now let's take religious belief out for a moment. You have a home where you are responsible for the safety of your wife and children. A naked stranger comes to your door, and you let him in? That is not charity, that's insanity. Is there no other option in your set of acceptable responses. What if I gave him clothes, food, beverage, and payed for a cab to take him to a shelter or the hospital. Would I be less caring than if I endangered my family? I have the right of free association. I have a belief in God. I have a responsibility to help other people. I see no conflict between these. And,I see no obligation to invite into my home to share in my blessings anyone who rejects the source of those blessings. (This message has been edited by Bob White)
  12. The First Law of Philosophy For every philosopher, there exists an equal and opposite philosopher. The Second Law of Philosophy They're both wrong. * * * * * * * Question: What do you get when you cross the Godfather with a philosopher? Answer: An offer you can't understand. * * * * * * * Question: What is a recent philosophy Ph.D.'s usual question in his or her first job? Answer: "Would you like french fries with that, sir?"
  13. "So your claim is that God has always been. If that's true then he will exist 1 000 000 years in the future, as well as 1 000 000 years in the past." That is not my claim, that is the faith of nearly half the world population for over two thousand years. "Tell me, if I took a time machine and went backwards 50 000 years, where would I be?" Since no one knows for sure, my guess would be that since your are not 50,000-years old, that once you went back to a time before your birth you would no longer exist. As far as even the most learned scientists and mathematicians are sure of, it is only possible to travel forward in time.... at a rate of one hour every 60-minutes. What I could never understand in the church is why, out of God's infinite life in the cosmos, was the universe created only 30 000 years ago? By whose watch? Man or Gods? The measure of time is mans creation, used to give himself an understanding of the physical world around him. Who can say what time means to God? A lifetime to us is a fleeting moment of eternity. A universe controlled by mathematical formulas is just as plausible as a universe controlled by an all-powerful superghost. But what would be the chances that everything would work in such balance. Why not billions of formulas in random chaos? Instead we have billions of interdependent formulas that each had to work in an exact and specific way in order for us to exist. What brought order to the chaos, what made the pattern that allowed everything to happen here, and to our current knowledge nowhere else, anywhere? To Mark and Zahnada, This is not an argument. Achilleez is asking questions and I am sharing my faith. I do claim to have all the answers, nor to support my faith do I need all the answers. That doesnt mean that the questions arent valid, just that faith does not require all the answers. I am not out to change Achilleez, only Achilleez can do that and only when he is ready. I have tried to explain to him that, as an atheist, my home is closed to him. Scouting has said, that, as an atheist, their home is closed to him. God has said that, as an atheist, His home is closed to him. Unfortunately Achilleez doesnt believe in the only house that matters. I believe that God believes in him, so the next move is up to Achilleez. The difference is God has all the time in the universe, Achilleez does not. (This message has been edited by Bob White)
  14. I feel I need to correct Padre and Korea Scouter. The methods of Wood Badge for the 21st Century were written with the goal of effective leadership in mind. The methods of the various scouting programs were written with the mission of scouting in mind. The contributing authors of WB were asked for input on making the course a more effective tool for teaching leadership skills to adults. The skills of leadership were the focus of the work, not the mission of scouting. WB is a leadership course for all leaders in and out of scouting. It uses the scouting environment when being delivered to scouting participants but that environment can be easily adapted to fit other groups without altering the methods. Certainly as a leader one must understand the characteristics and the resources of the group being lead. However, since WB is for all volunteers at all levels of scouting, not just troop service, the element of seeing the program from a "Boy Scout's" view does not play an intricate roll to the course.(This message has been edited by Bob White)
  15. Remeber, they must be a registered Boy Scout to go in the contigent crew so thay are still not going as a Venturer. Venturers can only be on staff at Jambo, not participants.
  16. A priest, a lawyer, and a cowboy walk into a bar. the bartender looks up at them and says "What is this, some kinda joke?"
  17. "The point being, you are stating that the existence of God has to be simply because there had to be an action to begin the infinite number of reactions that followed it." If that is your point Achileez then it is a very poor one. If you read the post again you will see that "I" did not say that. I wrote what the mathematicians determined. I never said that that was an element of religious faith. I already answered your question of where God came from. It is a common Judea-Christian belief that God is, was, and always has been. The Alpha and the Omega. He is the origin of everything. God was not created. God IS the creator. Is it your belief that man and the world around us, in all its balance and intricacies exists due to random coincidence? That all the individual mathematical formulas it would take to create, and sustain the universe just happened to work out? That there is no plan that explains the interrelationship of the world around us? (This message has been edited by Bob White)
  18. A grasshopper jumps up on the bar and says "good evening barkeep" and the bartender says "a talking grasshopper! You know there is a drink named after you!" And the grasshopper says "Irving?"
  19. Interestingly enough some of histories most important mathematicians were devout Christians, who believed that the elegance and perfection of mathematics and physics helped to prove the existence of God. While you on the other hand feel that math replaces God. Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo and Newton, were all convinced that nature can be explained by mathematics and that only God could have created the math, bringing order to chaos. If for every action there is a reaction, then for every reaction there was before it, an action. All of these men came to independent conclusions, based on their studies of math and physics, that at some point an initial action that proceeded all other reactions had to have taken place. Their conclusion is that only the existence of God could account for that first action. They realized, understood and accepted the existence of the watchmaker. They knew He had to exist because they could prove the existence of the watch.
  20. I am very sorry to hear of his serious injury but, it should not hinder his ability to finish his project if he was doing it according to the requirements. His physicaL ability to do the work is irrelevant if he was doing the planing and the leading as the requirement states, and not the doing of the work itself. He should stil be able to give directions, solve problems, and evaluate progress. That is what the candidates responsibilty is during the project. I recommend he stays with the project.
  21. My 2 cents Terry, While I appreciate the new features you are trying to introduce ,I too have noticed severely reduced load times. While I think the spell-check and squelch features are great, I would gladly forfeit the ranks and ratings feature. We have never been shy in registering our approval or disapproval of a post's worth (or even of the poster's) so I see no gain in these features if they are responsible for the horrible load and refresh times.
  22. If you are hungry Achileez, it is not by my hand, but your own. You have been offered the bread of life, you choose not to eat. If you are naked it is by your own choice, you have been offered the comfort of God and you refuse it. If you are sick it is by your own choice, say but the word and your soul shall be healed. If you are homeless it is by your own choice you have been offered the kingdom of heaven and you have chosen to reject it. Is God within you Achileez? That is up to you.
  23. I have no idea what the content of Wheelers post was, but I bet I can guess fairly accurately, sight unseen, that it was a long and arduous read. I think I can be far more compact. The word Republic like most words has multiple meanings. If Wheeler is referring back to our political method of governance then here is the definition according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law It not only explains our government it also explains the patrol method of troop operation. I realize that Merriam-Webster is not known for philosophy, but then Plato wasnt known for his dictionaries.
  24. Friends, We have been set-up. Like sheep to the shearing. Wheeler is a fake. No one can possibly be this starved for human contact as to join a forum to talk with people you don't know, about a topic you don't know, in a way calculated to repulse. This is not a philosopher, this is an unhappy, unproductive, anti-social loner with a couple books of quotes on hand but nothing to say. So everyone put your cursor on the squelch button and we can let him do what he enjoys the most, sit in solitude contemplating his navel. One..two....three....click
  25. Achilleez, The only thing you wrote that is the least bit honest, accurate and factual is when you wrote then fine, I have no religion. So you think that everything is a creation of an unknown mathematical formula. You have no problem believing that? You are perfectly at ease believing that this equation, which you have no idea of how it was created or determined or what its composition is created and continues to control all things. Is that about right? Then who created this formula? A random act of nature? Then what created the nature? An atheist is a man walking down the beach who finds a watch. Where did the watch come from he asks. So he finds a man looking around in the sand nearby and discovers he dropped the watch. But where did the man get the watch, he asked. He bought it from a guy on a corner downtown. He is told. So the man goes down town and finds the peddler. He asked the peddler where he got the watch. The peddler admits he stole it from a jewelry store. So the man goes to the jewelry store and asks where the watch came from and is told it was bough from a watch maker. To which the man respondsIMPOSSIBLE. He accepts the existence of the watch, he can believe that someone dropped it, he knows that someone stole it, He believes that it came from the store but he rejects the existence of a watch maker. You accept that something made the animals, you believe in the existence of an unseen, unknown a mathematical formula, you believe that nature or something set in the math in motion, but you refuse the existence of the creator of that force. Then you present unproven statements as empirical fact. Why did he choose to create us 30 000 years ago and give us rocks 300 000 000 years old? and that very same book which has been scientifically proven to be inaccurate (Genesis). and a lifestyle defined by scripture in a book written thousands of years ago in a language no longer commonly spoken, written and re-written hundreds of times by monks who were the only literate people at that age, By the way the lifestyle of the time is recorded in many other forms and as well as through archaeological evidence. You offered some questions and then said not to answer because they were unanswerable. I disagree. I have no problem with their answers. But I understand why you would. Who made God? I AM the Alpha and the Omega Why did he make us? To reveal His love. For His pure enjoyment Why did he make an infinitely large universe that makes our planet next to zero on the cosmic scale? To As a constant reminder of His existence. Every time you begin to feel superior for what you have accomplished; the creation of the computer, space travel, cloning, the retractable pen, think of the existence of the endless universe and hear the voice of God say not bad, but can you do this? At no time did I say I would slam a door in your face. I said you would not be welcome in my home. Without an invitation to enter my house the door could not be slammed in your face, and the invitation would not take place if I knew your were an atheist. Remain an atheist, and you will find that my home is not the only one where you will not be allowed to enter. Bob White (This message has been edited by Bob White)
