  1. Thanks! It is a good tool and i plan on showing it at our next meeting! thanks again -251scout
  2. I agree that costs will be high to do commercials however, wouldnt it pay off in the end when new scouts come out and join... i think that most people just dont know what we do and that is why they dont join!
  3. in response to chipmunks question, we are sending care packages from our local highschools key club that i am an officer in. We asked the office at the local highschools for the names and contacts of those from the area that are deployed over seas. This is your best bet. Most of the time they know. IF they dont, find one parent in you area of someone who is and they will know alot more usually. -251scout
  4. We have started using powerpoint presentations at a few of our meetings. I was just wondering if others have done this and if you have, i would like to see if i could use some of the presentations you have done!
  5. I once asked this question for fun and to see what weird answers i would get(knowing my troop you never know) and more then half said hungry. others said pyromanics. -251scout
  6. This is a similar case to the way our troop used to be run except ours wasnt this bad the scoutmaster just didnt realize what was going on and what was supposed to happen.. When i first came to the troop as a new scout not knowing much, i was friends with the other older scouts there and we knew we had to do something so we got together, got a plan together of everything we felt needed to change and then sat down with the scoutmaster and CC and told them how we felt. They both liked the idea and we have been scout run ever sence. Im not sure if it would work in this case but you never know. talk to a group of scouts and tell them that it needs to be taken care of.. Adults will usually listen to the scouts in their troop especially if they are not having a good time.
  7. I just put our new website up last night.... Let me know what you think. It is still in progress but most of it is done. http://www.frenchtown.com/troop251
  8. Wow, these are too funny im going to order some tonight! Thanks for sharing! These are awsome!
  9. I figured that is what she ment. I have already been through the JLT Course last summer but thanks!
  10. Like semper said, they dont need to have the canoeing mb to go. but, you as leaders should be trained like semper said and also, make sure that the boys can all swim and use a canoe. Maybe a practice day where they show that they know how to do it. Dont want to get out on the river and realize a kid doesnt know how to canoe!
  11. Does anyone have a campout for the new scouts crossing over where they go over requirements and learn the ropes?? If you do, please give info as we are looking to plan one.
  12. has anyone else heard of this new training that cajuncody mentioned in this post??? If they have let me know as im would like more info on it! -251scout
  13. Semper, Depends on where im going! HaHa. The leaders usually get the coffee ready the night before we just light the stove and put it on... this is the only time im nice to them! Just kidding! It is something that i feel is good to do. Shows are appreciation of them!
  14. We had a scouter who's son turned 18 and moved off. but he still remained active and attends many events! See what he wants to do.. Having an extra scouter around isnt always a bad thing!
  15. Their server is probably down or they are servicing it.. check back later today or tomorrow
  16. Yu-Gi-Oh is dead in my troop and has been dead! we never allowed it in! we let them play poker and blackjack(no money or gambling for anything) and that we can take but i have had to break up fights at camp 2 years ago because scouts were fighting over those cards! What is next??? I wish they would stop coming out with these things.. Once they die out, parents realize they wasted all that money because they are not cheap at all(i dont think)
  17. At any district event, the scouts are up at 7:00 sharp For other campouts it could be later or earlier. ME as SPL and my assistant or the acting assistant are usually up by 6:15 to get the fire going, get water boiling(cold campouts), we get washed up and ready, put the leaders coffee on then get the rest up. WE found that this works best because then we are ready for the day and are not leaving the campsite while we get ready. At summer camp, we get them up at 6:30 because we dont want to miss anything important like breakfast. Plus we make them all shower every morning because we have had to many parents complaining about smelly kids at the end of the week. But the normal time is 7:00 and we usually follow this when around other troops to avoid making the others mad!
  18. Like SemperParatus it basically depends on your theme... We have had different themes for our pack and many different centerpieces... We use balloons, flowers, flashlighs in cans with designs poked in paper over top then ballons tied to can - for space theme - star designs in paper to shine on celing...
  19. I fully agree... The scouts should cook their meals at camp. At our councils JLT, the different patrols cooked their meals every day. It is more fun that way and shows more responsibility in the scouts. At our Councils Camp, KMSR, on thursday night(i think) your troop cooks their meal in their site! It was alot of fun for our troop! I think if they cannot cook all of the meals themselves they should cook a couple
  20. I dont really know i mean i went to a cold weather camping course offered by another council just stuff to make us more aware of things like that or even more in depth training for SPL. I mean i dont know what other troops do but i and the plc run everything and the leaders run everything through us before anything is done. It was my goal when i started to bring them this far and i think that other troops should be able to get more in depth training for all topics.
  21. Good idea.... I will email council and ask if i can run a few different ones! Thanks
  22. I dont know about the other youth out there but i myself have always wondered why there are not more training opportunities for the youth members. I mean the adults have a ton of trianing classes and we have JLTC. They always say scoutrun but then they dont continuosly train us and give us more opportunited to learn new details and ways of doing things...... Anyone have any thoughts?
  23. Wow! Thanks for all of the replies, i already took many suggestions into mind and i will be planning on using almost everything suggested because most of what people said is how i feel or what i would like to get to! Once Again Thank You For Your Feedback! -Troop251scout
  24. What exactly is a green bar position.... In my many years of scouting i have never heard that term used before.
