So I'm a liberal now? My liberal friends will be stunned to hear that. But you are certainly entitled to work to change the decision. Go for it. My liberal friends would approve; it's all they talk about for weeks. I wonder who made the decision and how. Was the Board consulted or was this an executive order?

Just how many trans kids do you think will be joining BSA units? They are a tiny, tiny minority. Advocacy groups CLAIM it's .3% of the population - three in a thousand. What percentage of youth join BSA units? Under 5% We are talking small numbers. Lousy program is the big problem, but few get excited about that, especially at the top levels of leadership. BSA needs to sort out the YPT implications NOW - if it is up to it, so we can get on with saving what's left of Scouting. Many of the things said here about the end of Boy Scouting were said when females were first officially allowed to be uniformed Scouters - over thirty years ago.

And, in fact, the word "must" (or "shall," for that matter) does not appear at all. It just tells you where it goes - if there is one.

Good luck to you and your honest, plump face, Great chieftain of the sausage race! Above them all you take your place, Stomach, tripe, or intestines: Well are you worthy of a grace As long as my arm. ... Mark the Rustic, haggis-fed, The trembling earth resounds his tread, Clap in his ample fist a blade, He'll make it whistle; And legs, and arms, and heads will cut off Like the heads of thistles. You powers, who make mankind your care, And dish them out their bill of fare, Old Scotland wants no watery stuff, That splashes in small wooden dishes; But if you wish Scotland her grateful prayer, Give her a Haggis! Tortillas, then. Haggis burritos. -
Our Council had eleven CSPs in one year. Fund-raising. When it all started, I had CSPs on all my uniforms and was too lazy - or lacked motivation - to start playing musical CSPs. I have a number of the variations in boxes, including one all white and one all black, and new ones are coming with the combinations of five councils into three. Just got a 2017 Wood Badge Breakfast CSP. People around here (three councils) wear whatever suits them - another reason why Scouting has a brand of clothing and not a uniform.

Hey, LS, you are obviously a horrible person. May you never hear the pipes play or eat pasta again. -

All assuming that the CO leaders know what a Boy Scouting program is supposed to be - a fact not in evidence at many COs but hardly surprising given that many paid Scouters at National don't know what the program is supposed to be. Witness the Scouter.com article saying patrols are "one component of what we call youth-run, or youth-led, troop." -

Sorry if the thread is unclear. The offending article is gone, removed by BSA from Scouting.org. -

This disappearance of newspaper customers - and newspapers, for that matter -- has some correlation to the decrease in the number of "paper boys." "A 2015 report from the Brookings Institution shows that the number of newspapers per hundred million population fell from 1,200 (in 1945) to 400 in 2014. Over that same period, circulation per capita declined from 35 percent in the mid-1940s to under 15 percent." Our local "big" newspaper, publishes only five days a week, averages under twenty pages, and has less than two pages of classified ads. The loudest screamers in the last week are dying, their debt rated as "junk." "Hey! Look at me!!!" -
He is running down BSA AND suggesting its not right to be Scouters when BSA is so bad: "[i[t's time to quit." Not for me. I will soldier on, trying to make things better as best I can with my imperfect understanding and imperfect skills.

Last weekend. Raised money for Doctors Without Borders. There are crooked cops, crooked preachers, crooked salesmen, crooked doctors, crooked PTA members, crooked teachers, crooked tool booth operators, crooked car makers, etc. Millions of people are involved in Scouting. They do different things. You can go on denouncing or do something to make it better. You can focus on the bad ones or find, associate with, and support the good ones. "Brighten the corner where you are."

He has said he quit: "These are the reasons I scouted. They are also the reason I don't no more."

Given that Bill Hillcourt saw the patrol as the school for democracy, his version of the Patrol Method called for the "election" of PLs and the SPL, and that is what is expressly required by BSA policy and promised to the Scouts in the Scout and Patrol Leader's handbooks. That is Boy Scouting. BSA says the "Troop" sets qualifications for the elected offices, and I suppose the qualifications could include no prior service as SPL or not being the incumbent SPL when the election is held. The "Troop" should be the PLC if we follow the repeatedly-stated principle that the troop is to be "boy run," with adults leading through youth except for matters of health, safety, and values. Refusing to allow the Scouts to elect their leaders, and thus experience democracy on a small scale, has been the entering wedge for the near death experience for the Patrol Method - that is Boy Scouting - over the last thirty years - in favor or the adult-run program or the mythical "Youth-led Troop method."

Scouting ties in the Trump Administration
TAHAWK replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Issues & Politics
BSA survived Nixon and Bill Clinton. The World is full of bad examples. Many are breathlessly hailed by the Media as the present Great Thing - or not, depending on politics. It's our job to do better in our units = Adult Association -
Brother, lots of what was in libraries is online. Things change over a hundred years.

So what was wrongly done or wrongly omitted in your situation was a matter of BSA policy or decisions made by BSA? Because otherwise you seem to be assigning collective guilt to everyone else whom you label "BSA." Your local council is a franchisee, not BSA.

That is likely the source given the timing, but the story goes back many decades. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati I remember magazine ads when I was a boy warning that the Illuminati were secretly at work in the background - up to no good. People worried over such things are still around.

My only point is that the power is not solely with the CO. Someone introduced the concept of precision in language. That was not me. What's the point of a sharp knife if you can't split a hair once and a while.
