  1. Just a point- Make sure it is a nine-band armadiller. Anything less is just a rat on the half-shell. Y'all come visit Texas... bd
  2. Well, I, for one, am not ashamed to be an American! Just because some nations with linguini for backbones don't approve of the stance our country has taken, is not sufficent cause to make me feel remorse. Am I ticked-off about what a few soldiers did, YES. Am I 100% behind the thousands of the young men and women who day-in and day-out go about their business in a professional way, YES. Am I behind a President who doens't just 'run-off at the mouth' with a bunch of idle threats, YES. I have friends and relatives over there and I pray for them every day. If we don't find any other weapon of mass destruction, I still feel we found one hiding in a hole like a rat. gsmom, if you're ashamed to be an American, do us both a favor and don't tell anyone over there that you are. BTW, if that stings, maybe there is still some pride going on.... BD
  3. I think that, sadly, the real downer about negative campainging is the loss of respect for the office being run for. It seems today we have little or no respect for these folks after they get into office and that tarnishes the office as well. I find myself thinking about real issues that are being discussed as just a ploy for politicians to get re-elected. That's sad, but I don't feel many of our leaders are worried about me, the middle-class working American... BD
  4. Hey okie-beaver, is that cheese made in OK really a burnt orange color? We could bring Bevo up there to upgrade them stringy cows. Just kiddin, don't get your hackles up, I remember the score at the cottonbowl - ouch! BD
  5. Gadzooks, They're wanting to wear a dress to boy scout meetings... Then there were all those dwarves whose names started with G, Gimli, Gloin...... bd
  6. scoutldr: Your post reminds me of a saying: 'no one is so worthless they can't used as a bad example.' Carry on, scouts. IMHO, scouters are a light unto the world. bd
  7. Phil, Howdy from Texas, son! Grab a coffe cup and pull up a log around the ole campfire. (careful not to tump over that dutch oven). Good to have you around, bd
  8. OGE- Something else that jumps out is how important it is to have all of the adult roles filled with trained people. The COR should know what the goals are for the troop that are set by the CO. COR should be trained and know their role in setting up the adult leadership of the troop. CC should be trained and make sure the committee gets the training they need so they can be involved by doing their job. SM should be trained and know how the Scouting program should be delivered. Everyone should be involved and not let too much responsibility fall to one person. bd
  9. Twinkle, twinkle little star makes me wonder what we are. Five of them a dude you make, two or less, you're just a fake. So twinkle on you little star, I pray my rating you won't mar. If only two of you I boast, it truly won't affect my post. I vote they go away. bd
  10. This isn't a set-up question, but an "I'd like to know" question. Are we assuming the BSA stance on homosexuality is based on religion? It wasn't all that long ago that society as a whole thought homosexuality was sexual perversion. Maybe our stance is based on that instead of any one religions teachings? BD
  11. Queer eye for the Scouting Guy will now have a new target....
  12. just one hour a week is all it takes, right?
  13. Big E, Quit joshin' us, those were not mistakes! You love this scouting game too much for that. I believe if you're not busier than a june bug on an ant hill, you're not happy. It's really great that folks like you care as much as you do about Scouting. If you can find something constructive for scout shirt and blue jeans, maybe you can keep him out of trouble!! bd
  14. IIIIIIIIIIIIIII used to be a 5-star, and a good ole' 5-star,too! Now I think it's just gas... bd
  15. anyone ever heard of seven layer cookies? It's kind of like mschwartzs' thing but you use layers of different kinds of cookies. I'd like to have that receipe... bd
  16. FOG- I thought it was pagan sacrifices OF goat, that way you have cabrito for supper. It kinda took the place of the "running of the chickens" so to speak. Too many people objected to the boys killing the poor little chickens, but who really cares about a goat? NJ- just kidding, in a canine kind of way... big dog
  17. Some others I like, not sure who said 'em.... No one is so worthless they can't be used as a bad example. You can fool some of the people some of the time, and that's enough to make a good living. I'll have four fried chickens and a Coke (Joliet Jake Blues).
  18. Hi, Mrs. Big Dog made something the other day that was a big hit called mini-burgers. This won't sound like a receipe but here goes: Take vanilla frosting and mix in a little yellow food dye. Take some coconut and mix in a little green food dye. Take two vanilla wafers and put a little icing (which now looks like mustard) on the flat side of each. Put a chocolate thin mint on one wafer and a little coconut (which now looks like lettuce) on the other. Stick the two wafers together. This really looks like a hamburger but has a great taste. And it's finger food which goes over pretty well at a blue/gold. BD
  19. I still like: "It is better to remain silent and appear a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt" Twain? bd
  20. Thanx to all for responding... got some good ideas. bd btw, if you see a shirt for sale on ebay with a hole in the pocket, you'll know one of the suggestions didn't work...
  21. Greetings all... Got a cub scout shirt for a lad off ebay. Well, it came in with glue where the patches used to be. Her who must be obeyed wants to know how to get rid of the glue. Any suggestions other than wd-40? I believe WD-40 would leave a stain. Any help appreciated... BD
  22. Achilleez, Trying to get you to believe Scripture over the internet is not the best way. I hope you personally know a believer, because their life should be the reason an interest is sparked in you to know more about the Bible. It's very easy to think that Christians look down on others, especially gays, in a forum like this. But know, we all fall short of the life God expects, and it's Jesus who makes up the difference. I've had some REAL trials in the last year, and it's this faith that made the difference! I hope the hunger of which you spoke is filled is the beginning of something great. NJ - As far as a movie from Hollywood offending someone, as a Christian, I've been pretty offended by what has come out in movies and no one reallys seems to care! If the Jews that are complaining truly believe that Jesus was not the Christ, then their forefathers didn't do anything wrong. If He was not the Christ, they did us a good thing by putting to death a liar and a blasphemer. I don't accept that He was a "Good Man". He either was the Son of God, or he was extremely bad. Just my take, but since I didn't have to hijack the thread to say so.. This is pretty deep for the Big dog... but it's a beautiful weekend to go camping, and we're going to Merit Badge College. Talk about bad timing... YiS BD
  23. Ed, Been out of the pocket all week, so I just read this thread. Please tell Mike that the thoughts and prayers of Troop 117 and Pack 303 from the Wolf Mountain District, Kingsland Tx will be sent to The Lord for him! The Big_Dog will spend some time on his knees for Mike. YiS BD
  24. BW- Your last post reminded me of a Frank and Earnest cartoon where they're dressed up like scientists and they tell God that they can create life, too. God tells them:'Fine, go ahead". So they start to rake up the ground. In the last frame God tells them: 'Hey, get your own dirt' We have come a long way and will continue to make advances, but I don't think we'll ever get to the point that we can create something from nothing like God did! BD
  25. Hey, that brings up a new idea... Turn the boys loose and tell them the objective is ham and eggs for breakfast! Just kidding NJ.. A guy here at work gave me the thought for the day: Ham and eggs for breakfast- all in a days work for a chicken, the work of a lifetime for the hog...' bd
