New subject - moral hazard and pre existing conditions
sherminator505 replied to eisely's topic in Issues & Politics
"Could it be that people with bad credit ratings statistically have more auto insurance claims? Just sayin...." Do they? Who compiles this data, and what does the data set actually show? Just askin... -
I wouldn't wear my merit badge sash again even if it were allowed. Seems that the thing has shrunk considerably, even though I haven't washed it for decades.

Scout must be 1st Class before he can earn MB ???
sherminator505 replied to WestCoastScouter's topic in Advancement Resources
WOW! How old is your DE? There was once a rule that Scouts needed to be Second Class to work on some merit badges and First Class for the rest, but that rule was dropped in the 1960's, I think. There is no such restriction now. -

eisely, In some states, an abusive relationship can be used as a preexisting condition to deny coverage. Does that help you understand my question? -

Is a woman with an abusive husband imprudent or unlucky? And should the answer to that question affect her ability to get health insurance?(This message has been edited by sherminator505) -
Don't remember how it happened. Are you still gathering information to develop a response?

"My question was why didn't the others?" Search me. Laziness, I guess. "Were these booths manned by uniformed Scouts?" In large part, yes. "Did the Council Executive Committee give their approval to the unit who turned in their UMEA to wear their uniforms?" Yes. The money was only demanded from the other units. Fundraising booth meaning snacks or craft items or things of that nature were sold to raise money. And as I pointed out, one unit actually did.(This message has been edited by sherminator505)

Three questions for dg98adams - 1) When did I state that the action wasn't justified? 2) Since when did PMs become fodder for the thread? 3) Do you really believe that this level of decorum is in keeping with a public forum for Scouters?
-
Let me reframe the question. Scouting clearly is not against any of its members participating in the American political process, but it is against using the uniform for furthering a particular candidate or proposal within that process because it is against its own stated policies. I don't think that many Scouts or Scouters would argue that one. Similarly, I don't think that Scouting would be against its any of its members raising money for an organization that charters one or more of its units (because by definition that CO would have compatible values with the BSA), but it is against using the uniform to further that fundraiser when it is in conflict with its own stated policies on fundraising. What is it about the latter question that makes it more arguable than the former? Also, would the use of the uniform really help sell more fireworks?

WOW! When did I say that?(This message has been edited by sherminator505)

Why not? You tend to babble on about our beliefs on a regular basis. Fair's fair, isn't it? Or does that only extend to the point where you begin to become bothered?

I have a question concerning the unit money-earning application. Some years ago the Troop I was involved with participated in a community fair along with several other packs and troops. Many of the units (including ours) set up fund-raising booths. After the event, the Council became indignant that only one unit had turned in a unit money-earning application, and demanded that every other unit that raised money at the event surrender the funds to the council. Was this action justified?

Horizon was prophetic. This IS a bad Monty Python sketch. Merlyn, you seem to have nothing of substance to offer, only that everyone else in the room is wrong.
-
I'm still waiting to hear Merlyn's take on my "weird" list. Maybe an explanation of how one or two of those items are off the mark perhaps...
-
Makes sense to me. Why reinvent the wheel? Personally, I would've preferred a picture of a bootprint, but I am a bit of a traditionalist.
-
Tricky in the sense that you can claim to speak for all atheists in what you claim to be a complete vacuum. Oh, and you were probably typing when I edited my question.
-
Don't you mean you don't have to believe them? Also, assuming that you have taken God out of the equation, how do you arrive at the conclusion that my list is "weird?"(This message has been edited by sherminator505)
-
You did express a certain disdain for the term. But then, I'm guessing you will come up with some argument denying that, too. This thread is beginning to read like a really bad Monty Python sketch.
-
Congratulations, Nick!

Ed, You can't win this one any more than you can lose it at this point. Merlyn obviously won't admit to having a belief system despite the fact that some of previous comments certainly suggest otherwise. That, and that he has an unnatural obsession with bowling. Hmmm... Anyway, the more I follow this, the more I agree with skeptic, except that using an actual wall would be far less painful and would yield a much more satisfying result. When do you tell a Scout no on advancement???
sherminator505 replied to Crossramwedge's topic in Advancement Resources
Advancement for Star, Life and Eagle is about more than merit badges, It is also about "being active" in the troop and "serving actively" in a POR. If the Scout is not doing these things now, he needs to receive the message that he needs to do these things to advance. Period. Once the Scout receives the message, it is up to him to live up to all of the advancement requirements if he hopes to advance. -
Can rank be taken away after committee has approved
sherminator505 replied to kittle's topic in Advancement Resources
"Rank can be "taken back" - ask a few "former" Eagles who've had their rank removed." This exact question was raised on another thread and no one posting there is aware of a specific case where this has actually happened. Do you have any more information on this?(This message has been edited by sherminator505) -
My understanding is that the BSA reserves the right to take such action, but I am not aware of a single documented case where that right has been exercised.
