  1. I give copies of the requirement page from the Academics and Sports book to parents in my den who want to work on specific pins or Belt loops. They check things off and return it to me. This helps them to know that they are really accountable for what they say their child does. You could tell her you need the sheets for record keeping purposes, which is why I ask for them myself. Also, our cubmaster, when he hands out awards, will ask a scout what they did to earn it (kind of putting them on the spot). Could you have the den leaders ask the boys to bring in projects they did for the pins to "show" the den? Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and take the word of the parent. They are really not doing their sons any favors by "pencil-whipping" if in fact that is what they are doing. Oh, and that Tiger will have to save something for when he's a Webelo, or do things over again, when it comes time to earn Activity pins. Make sure that Mom understands that. I also wondered if maybe this mom homeschooled? Many homeschoolers use scout books etc in their curriculum. I agree, that's an awful lot to have done since September. Are they brand new scouts, or maybe the Webelo worked on them over the summer?
  2. in my head. I really like some of the new requirements, esp for the Outdoorsman and the others that look like they will better help prepare them for bridging up to the Boy scouts. I think what I'm gonna do is used my spreadsheets to make a chart, with the new requirements on it, for each activity pin and Web requirements etc. And I'll cover all the old and new stuff for all of them. I think it's all good stuff to know and be exposed to and really just "fleshes out" the program. They're camping this weekend with the pack and the troop is running events. (I had to come home overnight to let the dog out, haha). Thanks for the help.

  4. And actually, so far, I only have 1 boy who is new to scouting. The other new boys are transfers. I told the new scout to try to get the older edition. I know it won't be hard to deal with both sets of requirements, but just wondered if anyone else had ideas/input about it. We had a meeting tonight and it was great!
  5. Ok, here's the problem. Last year when my Bears bridged up to Webelos, the pack bought books for them (actually for all the bridging boys). We didn't know that new books were coming out this summer. Now, I have 1-2 new Webelos in my den, with the new books, with new requirements. Advice any one?? The new books require more on some activity badges. Do I make all the boys earn according to the new book? Do I use the old book and ignore the new requirements, even though a couple of boys have the new books? Do I have 2 standards depending on which book the boys have? Should I try to find some old books for the new boys?? Help! I've done Web's 2 times before, with the "old" book, so I'm very familiar with it and its requirements. TIA
