Congradulations...Have you read the S.M. handbook? I have found it very helpful. How is your program ran?

It's got to be about the boy's..They make the pack it's the celebration of scouting and what is scouting about boy's ..young men...not about the adults.
-

Scout leader opn 'Survivor?"
Scoutmaster Ron replied to LauraT7's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I also saw her Wood Badge Beads -
SPL... actually the position you assigned him sure does sound like "Instructor" to me. If I recall correclty Instructor is a leadership position that his held by scouts. and only needs to be proficient in the area of which he is instucting and by the sounds of it you got a good one. Now if your looking towards "made up" positions we have one called the Gamemaster (responsible for brining the balls to the meeting.)

Scout leader opn 'Survivor?"
Scoutmaster Ron replied to LauraT7's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Glad to hear that... However while watching the show I did get a little worried when she got to go for a reward challenge that included a champagne breakfast..glad she opted for the apple cider while in uniform. -

Suggested Indoor Activities when Webelos visit Troop??
Scoutmaster Ron replied to ScoutDad2001's topic in Cub Scouts
We recently had serval Webelos visit, after starting with a flag ceremony they Webelos then were taken to several different stations byt the SPL 1st was Dutch oven cooking we had a Star scout supervise and let the Webelos dump the ingredients in the D.O. 2nd was a 1st aid station where some Webelos had wounds put on them with sticks and bones sticking out of their arm and had the other Webelos dressed the wounds. 3rd they would visit a station theat showed kayacks that were made by the scouts. 4. Knots and then a team bulding game 5. Scoutmaster would talk to them, and then a closing and they got to taste the cobler that the Webelos made. -

New Scout Patrol (NSP) vs. Mixed Patrol
Scoutmaster Ron replied to Scotts_Scout's topic in The Patrol Method
I like the NSP keeep the same kids together from Webelos. Let them build as a patrol and work together sometomes they may get lost in the mix of older boys -

Patrol Names: Creative or Traditional
Scoutmaster Ron replied to captnkirk's topic in The Patrol Method
I agree with the Fat Old Guy..build traditions within the troup but you may also need to allow the boy to change names as THEY see fit...however does need to be scout appropriate -
How many troops have patrol outings?
Scoutmaster Ron replied to Fat Old Guy's topic in The Patrol Method
Hunt put it best but I do believe that the danger is greater than early 1900's when B.P. first envisioned it. -
Fat Old Guy, When my son entered into the troop the Webelos all formed their own patrol and as 11yr olds they did fine, were they as effective as the older boy's, no however all our gifted according to their maturity level and talents. If your opposed to having all 11yr olds togther as a patrol please reconsider. Let them use the troop guide as a resouce and assistance. My opionion let them hang out with their friends in the same patrol I think they will enjoy the scouting experience alot more.

What I have read about these and what I have experienced have been two separate things. How do you conduct yours? Is it a casual conversation tl get to know the scout? I'm actually just an ASM and someday hope to get to serve my troop as S.M. What I have experienced as being the 2nd leader present is a re-test of the Scouts rank that he had just completed. Also do you require the scout to be uniform? I have yet to see it written anywhere so I would think that you cannot require it or would you simply request it. Same with B.O.R.'s must you be in uniform?

Cheffy, If at all possible please do it. Just a short inspirational thought or how every day life interacts with the Scout Law or even a short good hearted story...keep it short let the boys go home thinking
-
Class 1 can be used for adults under 40. In answer to your question eisley I would think it would be common sense for other adults to be aware of any special medical needs

How would groups make money from wrestling? selling tickets? not sure if this would be appropriate for scouting
-
Fat Old Guy...sorry I miss interpeted what you talking about, We'll we have one more weekend left in October and would be more than happy to ask. Ron I used to an owl

The pack I was associated with called a "freegle award" it would be some small creature that always spotted "good deeds" throughtout the community you couldnt see the freegle but he would be in a box with some sound in it. As an award maybe a special neckerchief slide made of leather?

How about putting the pictures on a poster board with graphics cut out from paper and then attach them with plastic wraps he could keep an on-going "Troop album" and then pass it on to the next T.H. this would be a nice display at COH's or somehthing visiting Webelos can look at. Please make sure he takes pictures with plenty of scouts in it.

Fat Old Guy...I was not about to stand up and ask them to dictate if they could back up their info by naming publ..just letting you know what they said
