I'm curious if anyone else is planning on going. The sessions seem pretty good this year and I've got a friend headed there. I've got the time off and thinking its been a while since I hit a national event and actually now that I think of it...I'm sure there will be some other folks I know that will be there. I know there is a CSE 5k and honestly I'd kinda like to go do that one ...camera in hand ;-) I've been to the Gaylord Palms and it's a nice place. Anyways...now I'm rambling. Anyone?

I wish someone would take our over....it sux bad.

If they handed out "Square Knots" for significant Internet search assistance ... I would be handing them out now to anyone helping out on this thread! Two words.... Aaaahhhhh Mazinggg! Really...thanks!

If it were one of my staff members...I would say that we may consider using the material again and want to get the presentation in a "Written" form so we can review with him, adjust if needed, and make available for future use. That has always worked for me at work. Just my 2 S. (Fox C-52-03)

Note: While you are buying "ALL" the Eagle badges, a large portion are reproductions...not originals. Peace...S.

I am curious. Can you wear your Woodbadge beads with other neckerchiefs? I'm thinking...unit position, NJ, WJ, unit NC, etc., etc. I think I saw somewhere on the web that it is permissible, and after searching Scouter.com, I am still at a loss. Most folks simply say Beads + NC is how they have to be worn. So you see, I've found 2 opposing opinions and am confused. Comments?

A couple weeks ago, a colleague of mine indicated that he was going soon for part 2 of his Woodbadge. I mentioned that I had really enjoyed the "Win All You Can" game. He said he did too...but that the staff gave them two "breaks" so that 1 person from each patrol could all confer together..."Hence...YOU ALL CAN WIN" Me? No breaks....Mathematician, Statistician, Computer Programmer and Analyst are all areas I have been involved with heavily at one point in my life. You say it's a game....it's a game...game on! Yes...we did win by a LARGE margin. Could it have been "presented" better? YAHUH! Instead of presented as a game...I think it should have been presented as a team building exercise to "see how everyone" can win. If they have changed it...great...if they have not...what a crying shame. Peace...S.

What would you like from your Unit Commissioner
Scouter. replied to Austinole's topic in Council Relations
Simple... We would like to get ONE thing from our UC... ...Thier presence at an activity of ours of any kind at least ONCE a year. A scout is honest. Peace...S. -
Is it just me or does there seem to be an odd way to navigate the Scouting.org website? In many instances...I know the information is there, I search for and find it, but I can't navigate directly yo it. I am also finding a number a dead links. I'm like really? (and don't even get me started on the Spanish pages! GSA has about 5 or 10 x more Spanish for their members, yet we have Tico Perez on the Hispanic American Scouting task force. Double Really??)

Not sure yet...but what I want to know is where did you score a coupon to ScoutStuff??? Please do share the info ;-)

Silver Fawn Award is on ebay how much it worth
Scouter. replied to riglop's topic in Open Discussion - Program
FYI - Apparently it is currently worth $565 per eBay bidding. -
No offense taken here and I'm an eagle. Reading your posting made me realize what a benefit the Quartermaster Award would have been to me. I once had a job as a deckhand on a towboat and am amazed at the requirements I "fulfilled" working that job. (I actually picked up one of the round embroidered QM rank patches and had to research it. I did find it... But not fast. I don't know many people that can splice a rope (this forum excepted)..,let alone doing an eye splice on a 2 inch rope...and not knowing what a "fid" was..I sure figured out I needed one and got something to do the job. I'm not sure lassoing a timber head is in there...but my guess is that it is. Seeing as this is the 100th anniversary of Sea Scouting..please do continue to enlighten and educate those of us that do not know that much about that lessor known area of scouting.

Questions about what is appropriate
Scouter. replied to VentureMom's topic in Open Discussion - Program
VentureMom... Please do not judge this forum by the posts of few. I am new to this forum and have found lots of wisdom here. Again, I wish you and your family that all is well and turns out well. Peace...Scouter. -
Back on the original topic... Breakfast at last camp out ...A plastic jug of orange juice and ...Eggo Waffles Surprised...a pinch Prepared...you betcha. I've always got a non-perishable meal or 2 stashed away (Please note...no Pink Slime though for me). Whoever said preservatives? Really??? MSG is so much easier to take on a camping trip than that Pink Slime! Check it out at the BSA Scout Stuff store online: Www.scoutstuff.com/yuckystuff/rofl.asp

Perdidochas... I must admit that my wife purchased 80 (yes EIGHTY) pounds of fresh chicken breasts. Having had the experience of packaging that...I can hardly imagine messing with field dressing a whole whale. Ummm....wow. That would have to be a requirement of its own! Peace...S. -
Questions about what is appropriate
Scouter. replied to VentureMom's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Thank you for letting the forum know how things are going. I do want to make mention that although a Scouter does a lot, spends much time, spends much money, and/or holds a high position in the crew, district, or otherwise - they are not exempt from BSA regulation or the "Guide to Safe Scouting". That publication (G2SS) is there for a reason. I first hand was unknowingly AT RISK in the same circumstances for several years. As a youth, I did not understand that certain things were not appropriate. The leader was a Vigil Honor, District Award Of Merit, and a Silver Beaver recipient. The Council eventually (after I had moved on) found out and launched a huge investigation. Many things came out that SHOULD NOT have occurred. Many youth were harmed because our parents assumed that since this leader had awards, tenure, position in the council, time, and money. I don't blame anyone really, but...I simply ask... How can WE best protect our children when they are not with US? I hope I never have to deal with this situation, but I can say without a doubt, I know how I will deal with it if it does occur. Things do not always turn out well, but I sincerely hope that everything does turn out well and are adjusted in the future. -

My kid? 4 hours away? If it smells like a duck...and it quacks like a duck...it's probably a duck. (And this is one smelly duck too). I think your concerns are valid. Beyond that...the fact you are asking tells me you are very concerned. Me? I would be in my car going to get my son now. I would rather be overprotective and wrong than ...not so and right about my fears. At best... Your son is in a bad situation. -

Hmmmm.... http://usscouts.org/advance/physicalfitness.asp http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10150279779561247&id=121653421246 ...I could not locate any award info on the current website: www.scouting.org If you do...please post it. "Whaling" Merit Badge - New for 2012 (As of 04/01/2012)

TAHAWK.... ....the irony of your comment is that earlier I was looking at the requirements to be on STAFF for the 2013 NJ and is says that you must have a certain BMI (Body Mass Index) OR LESS to be allowed on staff. As I was reading that...I thought of those 2 Scouters....what a coincidence. Peace...S. -
Any info on this one? It seems to have disappeared. Thanks! S.

I have seen some unusual Merit Badges, but this one takes the cake: http://www.glpics.com/Quailman/WhalingMB.doc I went to our local Scout Shop yesterday and although they did not have the Merit Badge booklet quite yet, they were able to point me to where I could locate requirements online. Ok. Fine - but I said I don't see the badge on display. They said...(seriously)...."Do you have an advancement report with that Merit Badge"? Me - Totally Blank Stare of annoyance and disbelief...and my best effort not to be sarcastic too. Me - No. Might I just see what that badge looks like? Them - if it's not on display, it may still be in our latest shipment that we have not unpacked yet. Me - (Thinking...let it go...) Have a nice day! ...back home... Sound: Ding Dong (Doorbell) Me: [Opening door] Hello? Neighborhood Scout and Scouter (Dad): "Hey Scouter. - we have a little too much whale blubber from the whale hunt we went on last week. Want some? (AND to add insult to injury...there stood that Scout BEHIND heavily gloved hands and a thich gallon ziplock bag full of whale blubber and behind all that was the ...dare I say it... "WHALING MERIT BADGE" right there on his merit badge sash + a "DEVICE" too. Me: "Sure...I'll take 3 pounds. $5 each...? Ok, here you go (handing over pretty much all the wampum left in my wallet). Me: "What is the little white DEVICE on your WHALING merit badge?" Scout: "Oh, that...if you catch a Norwhale...bonus is you get to carve a mini harpoon to wear on your whaling merit badge!" Me: [in my best ...ok...that's a new one but complimentary voice] "Greaaat job..." Me: "what's your next merit badge going to be? [Phone rings inside of house] Me: "Sorry - Gotta run. Keep up the great work!" (This message has been edited by Scouter.)

Is it true that Scouting in Hong Kong and Macau have been disbanded and are no longer in existence?
-
I have to agree with Cito... NOAC, Conclave, NJ, WJ...I did not attend and not really interested in wearing. General issue...even older...I do like some and prefer some over the newer more ....elaborate issues. To me...I refer the simpler older flaps...even if I was not a member when they were issued. Doesn't BSA say once good, always good...as applicable?

I have a scouting acquaintance posted at Bagram AFB. He is selling 21st Century WB Belt buckles with all profits it benefit scouting there, Just as an FYI. Anyone interested, I can dig up the info. Used to be a Fox...S.
