Both the Green and the Red one feels the same to me. They both remind me of shirts..
-
I've got both the red and the green jac shirts. I love the Green one, it fits in a bit better when on a camp out. I also have a Council Fleece jacket which I tend to wear most.. The Green one does look stranger with the patches sewn on it though..

Want to do Wood Badge / SM says wait till next year

Great advice Parkman.. -
I have both shirts. I love the older one, and find the newer one as if it was designed to be worn without patches on the shirt.. sort of like the long sleeve outdoor activities shirt that used to be around a couple of years ago..

moosetracker is right about asking the Staff. We are required to recruit.. as for your tickets, Don't make them too difficult. Some people end up writing themselves into a hole they can't get out of.. As in I will bring my troop to a Army Football game. How about I'll bring them to a sporting event. There are other examples out there.. but right them, and the Staff will help you with this. to have a sort of back door. Like you will try to encourage the troop to start HA activities. Not will do HA. This way, you present the idea, and work to make it happen, but if it doesn't due to many factors, you can say at least you worked to make it happen. I got into a hole with OA .. in the end I made it happen, but with out much help getting there. And don't forget that you will have to do one part on Diversity.. -

If you have the time, then go for it. I had the time, and did it. I learned so much, and what I learned has helped my troop. But, and i mean a big BUT. It helps when writing you ticket that your unit will support you in working your ticket. I suggest, you sit down with your SM, tell him why you think you need to take it now, and tell him you want to take it know. Then ask him to help you prepare ideas for your ticket. I did this, and although the SM who replaced the old SM came on board, and decided not to support my ticket work. It was a fight. But when he realized he was leaving just short of a year as a SM, he let me finish up my ticket, which I did, and was beaded this year. I was able to get my last 4 points worked in a month because of this.. Anyway, try to get his support, if he still doesn't give it, either think before going, or better yet, come up with a ticket that you can do without his support. Example, becoming a Trainer, going to Powderhorn, serving on camp staff. 360. getting other training like Wilderness First Aid, etc... SB -
I've seen several people wearing he new Venturing shirts with the OA Flap sewn on the pocket flap. But of course the flap doesn't seem to be made for this. Any one know if this is correct?

Thanks for the info Sasha, I have been using dyes for years, and didn't think fo dying the velcro??? I haven't heard of this other material your talking about, so I think I'll give that a look into.. again thanks, SB

I see many Scouters doing just that. Sewing on Velcro, so they can switch out patches. If I could find some Forest Green Velcro I would do the same.

Resentment about needing to get trained?!
ScoutBox replied to Rockford8070's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
Moosetracker- I had to fly to an hour to take IOLS. I Drove 9 hours one way to attend Wood Badge. I drove another 8 hours one way to teach IOLS. I drove 9 hours one way to Become a Trainer, and be at our SAC. OA Ordeal is a two hour drive for me this year. but due to timing with be 8 hours for my boys to attend at another camp. I will be Staff at WB this year another 9 hour one way drive. Last Council Camporee I brought my troop to was 11 hours one way. UC Course was one day training, two days of driving, and I had to pay for a hotel for two nights. Driving great distance to train is something I'm trying to cut out for the leaders in my area. I've done it, and understand the time and cost. By getting the training brought to my area, which my District and Council are working to help me do, will bring more OA members into the Lodge, more trained leaders in to the District. More contact with Council. No easy task here. I had one adult in my Troop who was in the Philipinnes, and they had to fly to Japan to do any training. Again I understand the problems with adults not training because of the distance. But when the training is just down the road, then this is crazy. I wish all I had to do was get up early on a Saturday morning and make the 2 hour drive to training.. instead, I have to get up early the day before and spend 8 to 9 hours on the road to get there the night before. And what's even more funny about my situation, is I'm not the farthest who will drive. Just in this WB Course Staff, their is one staffer who will have to fly 10 hours to make it.And she's not the only one. there are several who will have to fly in, or drive father then I do. I think only one staffer will only have to make the short drive of 20 mins. I am lucky to have dedicated people in my Council. People willing to get out there and get the training to get the job done. To help out one another, and help bring the best program possible to the boys. When I see a map on most Council websites, and the farthest one would have to travel to do anything is 2 hours, just isn't good enough a reason to not get trained.. My district alone is a 14 hour drive. One district here is a three day drive from top to bottom. And the Trainers have been making these trips.. -

Good point Sherminator. I have been battling with this for a year. Now I am an ADC for my District Area, and pushing District and Council to bring training closer to my area. Looks like I'll have it started with OA Ordeal. then it's Adult Training, IOLS etc.. this Fall.. -
Due to the fibers inside of the Sleeping bag, folding will damage the fibers. so Stuffing is what's needed. But the outer material on the tent can be damaged when stuffed. Folding limits this damage.

I saw the National President, and Chief Scout Executive this past weekend at a function, both to them along with several other national Staff were wearing the wool blend shirts and wool trousers.

Back from first weekend
ScoutBox replied to scoutermomks's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
Bobwhites indeed.. I can't remember our Bob Patrol yells. I think we were always interested in getting the job done. And of course we seemed to be at the butt of every other Patrol's yells.. But we ended up top Patrol.. ie. best Patrol project, and none of the problems that the other patrols had with Forming, Storming, Norming and Preforming.. We never Stormed.. ie, not like the other Patrols.. we just got down and talked about any problems, and preformed.. Congrates on your first weekend, and good luck with the next one.. I have the Supplex Long sleeve shirts, and a cotton short sleeve. I prefer the Supplex shirts because they look better, are lighter in weight, and don't wrinkle as bad as the cotton shirts do. I prefer the long sleeve bacause I scout in Europe and the weather here is kooler then warmer.. But my cotton shirts, becuase of the stock at the scout shop are short sleeve..

Gentlemen thanks! I have the information I need now. @Nike, this hasn't happened yet! Also Nike, you have yet to tell me who you are. Like I said before I am also part of TAC, and was at SAC last month. I was hopping to meet you.

@Moosetracker, You are correct with your statements. I added to what I was already thinking. We are trying to get these Patrols to bond, to become Patrols, and let their leadership start running them. In the past in our troop, like you said the SM has been so hands off, that he might have well not been there. But now this has all changed, and in the past week. Now that we ASM and our new SM have gotten control of the Unit, we are pressed to make adjustments to what wasn't getting done or not getting done correctly in the past. In fact the CC thinks we don't need any adult supervision. But she too is learning fast. The thing is that this Patrol decided to do something, but never told the Adults, ie.. SM/ASM what they were planning to do. One thing we want them to do in the future but without making it too hard for them, is submit their plain. This way we can have a look and see if this is a proper and safe activity. And if it has the adult support needed. But doing this without us knowing can cause other problems if there are problems.. ie. the boys get hurt or damage property.. we must follow the BSA guidelines. and this is much about what I was aiming for here. I know the "Guide to Safe Scouting" Guidelines. But I was hoping for some added information about what you and your units do on this subject. again thanks to everyone who has piped in with information.. I am reading it all.

OK. YPT will be OK. I just wanted to find out what the rules were for this type of activity. I wanted to see what other unit leaders added to activities. We want the activity to be: Safe Scouting Something that helps to bring the Patrol together Fun Again, I was looking for ideas of what other units use as a goal, or demand what a Troop /Patrol activity must be..
-
Bravah, I think that the problem is that this is the first Patrol activity that the boys have come up with that' snot camping. Sure they're staying over at someone's house, but the parents don't have YPT. And the G2SS says that any over night camping needs to have two adults trained in YPT. I just don't want to have any problems with this. We want to do this right. But we also want the Patrol Activities to be Scout related. I don't see a big problem with these boys getting together. and I do trust the PL, and the boys involved, in fact one of them will be my son. Her's the APL for this Patrol. My reason about fro this thread was to see the guidence for this kind of activity. I just wanted to see if this was an OK activity for a patrol to have a sleep over camp out int he back yard with just the boys parents on location. We are pushing Patrol Activities, but this one was not what we expected. We though they might want to go camping.. in the woods??

Scouters, We have just made a Change of SM within our Troop. Since this change we are finnally involving the ASM into the discussion of what's going on.. this has been well received by all of us ASMs. Anyway, the former SM didn't play much of a role within the troop. So now we are trying to sort through the mess, so to say. One issue is Patrol Camping and Outings. Can anyone point me into the direction to answer what the rules are for Patrol Activities. Just an example of what we are facing. We have a patrol that wants to go camping. But at the PL's house in his back yard. He want's to show some videos in his house with his parents home, and then camp out int eh back yard. This plan doesn't sit well with any of the ASMs and the SM. We believe first that it's great they want to go camping. But the lack of trained ASMs and YPT by the boys' parents is the first problem. Next, which is our first requirement for any activity with the troop outing is, IS it a Scouting type event? Then of course the mother was asking about liability.. Of course there are other issues. But the idea is to find some concrete information about the subject. Thanks in advance, SB

New Unit Commissioner introductions
ScoutBox replied to ctbailey's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Indeed. I will work more in the UC role with the other 3 units in my area. And hopefully find a UC for my Troop. Although my SM is going soon.. I hope and pray. and the new SM which was to be me until i took on the role as UC, will be a great guy who already works with me as ASMs.. But am at this moment dealing with my SM about scout knives. the Swiss Law is strict. SO I had to explain it and the BSA rules about boys and knives.. He didn't want o take on the information.. such an arrogant guy.. Oh, well. time will tell.. -

CT, your right. It's one of my biggest jobs ahead of me. The last UC I am replacing quit due to the problems in the area.
