Police found the stolen bikes at a hidden trailer inside a homeless camp. It was thanks to members of the cycling community, who had been following what happened. Police have one suspect, but no arrests have been made. According to Dallas police, one of the stolen bikes was listed for sale on social media a few days later. An unsuspecting buyer met someone at a gas station less than a mile from the camp just across Interstate 20 to buy the stolen bike. But when the buyer brought the bike into a repair shop, employees questioned if it was one of the Camp Wisdom bikes and immediately notified police. Woody Smith from Richardson Bike Mart was also on the lookout after hearing about what happened at Camp Wisdom. "Sometimes, the thieves will bring the bikes in and try and sell them and we can catch them in the act," he said. Smith says right now bike hardware is still in high demand. "Parts are bringing up a premium because of COVID," he said. Police called in Air 1 to fly over where the bike was purchased. The helicopter spotted bike parts and tools scattered across a homeless camp in a nearby wooded area. Police also located other missing scout equipment inside a trailer on the property. "We only got one bike back completely intact," Camp Director Scott Arrington said. Camp Wisdom says it’s had other things stolen in recent weeks, too, and it’s installing security cameras. Chapter 11 announced - Part 3 - BSA's Toggle Plan
RememberSchiff replied to Eagle1993's topic in Issues & Politics
IMHO above all, the BSA wants to remain "in the driver's seat" no matter what. So again IMHO, the TCC or any creditor plan seems likely to be dead on arrival. Will that mean the U.S. Trustee submits another plan or there is a dismissal? My $0.01, -
May 10,2021: Thirteen years after he was injured by a tornado that killed four scouts at the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in western Iowa, Kevin Hanna graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center on Saturday and will continue his training with a residency in urology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Hanna, now 26, said the time he spent in rehabilitation after breaking his pelvis when the storm struck the Little Sioux Scout Ranch prompted him to choose a career in medicine. We, well New World 19 LLC, lost money on hosting the World Jamboree at Summit. I have wondered if Summit has higher revenue from non-scouting events. https://casedocs.omniagentsolutions.com/cmsvol2/pub_47373/812000_374.pdf In defense of Summit, it has more statues than any HA base or scout museum and has also changed the GTSS to allow alcohol to be sold and consumed on scout properties hosting non-scouting events. Maybe Bechtel will buy Summit back for their Bechtel University My $0.02, -

Drone Flight School at summer camp
RememberSchiff replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Camping & High Adventure
With Ingenuity flying on Mars, this pilot program could not have better timing. Moving forward, IMHO adventure could be part outdoor explorer and part tech maker. I prefer "maker" (hands-on) to STEM (academic?). At summer camps, I could see a variety of maker workshops (no MB's) at summer camps with say 4-8 scouts in each workshop. The workshops may be related to camp maintenance, attending adult skills, and scout interests. The cane webbing seats on my Old Town are blown out and I asked my scouts what should I do. Their answers (looks just like mine except pine needles missing, photo from https://canoemuseum.ca/ccm-from-home/) 1. Get a new canoe ( Ugh. What happen to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover?) 2. Get a new seat (about $40, ) 3. Fix it. (Now we're talking). Yeah stuff a jacket in it Anyway for example, a workshop on webbing (paracord, nylon webbing, etc) to repair above or similar projects, make pack straps, belts. Hands-on. Kids are being taught to buy new or pay someone else to fix it. Scouts develop the maker mindset and are taught the skills to ReUse and be Thrifty. My saved $0.02, -
Drone Flight School at summer camp
RememberSchiff replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Camping & High Adventure
How true. As I understand, Modit is a pilot (first run) program for kids this summer. However, I could see an age-appropriate version called Throwit for adults using the Throwit Jetfire System below. Back in the day, these were sold at our camp store. Fun! -
Camp Geronimo (Grand Canyon Council) will offer a Drone Flight School during two sessions --- June 6-12 and June 13-19. Kids 13 years and older will learn about the physics of aviation while building and flying his or her own custom Modit Drone System*. “We are excited to launch the first Scout Drone Flight School camp option in the United States located right here in Arizona,” said GCC BSA Camp Director Alan Chambers in a prepared statement. “We believe that this will be one of our most popular offerings and we look forward to welcoming Scouts from all states.” https://www.yourvalley.net/paradise-valley-independent/stories/boy-scouts-of-america-grand-canyon-council-offers-drone-flight-school-at-payson-camp,231493 https://www.grandcanyonbsa.org/2021/04/14/drone-flight-school/ Why did Geronimo Chose to use the Modit™ Drone System? The Modit™ Drone System is designed to build increasing flight proficiency among participants over time. They will start at the Beginner Level and learn the basics. At these early stages, youth are unable to access advanced features and high-performance modes so that they don’t get ahead of their skill-set. As participants master the beginner level, they are able to move to the Intermediate Level, unlocking more flight modes and capabilities. From there, they can continue through to the Advanced and Expert Levels that offer so many cool opportunities. The units are also fully customizable and we have some really amazing modifications in mind for the future. This System contains a user assembled airframe, all the electronics needed to operate the drone, including a battery and battery charger, and a Radio Controller hand-held device. Key Features include: A 4-propeller quad-copter that is capable of high performance maneuvers, speeds up to 15 mph, and a flight range over 1,000 feet form the operator A built in GPS for position tracking and flight stabilization. Automated functions such as auto take off, landing, return to takeoff point. An integrated camera capable of streaming video of what the drone sees and taking still photos. The Modit™ Drone System can be customized by the user and it is only drone on the market that can be repaired by the user after serious crashes. A phone-based Modit™ application acts as the ground station for the drone, including displaying video from the on-board camera, drone information and sending commands to the drone from the user. This application also accesses a library of training materials and instructions on everything from how a drone flies, to how to assembly and build a drone, to learning flight maneuvers, etc. *BSA owns Modit trademark https://uspto.report/TM/90517994

Coral Nurseries from Sea Base to Caribbean
RememberSchiff posted a topic in Camping & High Adventure
Through Plant a Million Corals, Dr. David Vaughan has developed a way to place small-scale coral nurseries in neighboring Caribbean countries. Those nurseries – modeled after the one he helped establish at the Boy Scouts of America Florida National High Adventure Sea Base on Summerland Key – can eventually produce 10,000 corals a year through microfragmentation. ... Vaughan, who puts in some hands-on time at Sea Base, sees the legacy the Scout program can create. “Could you imagine talking to a Scout 25 years from now and saying, “We’re going to take you to the 2020 planting and see what your father planted?’” More details about the Mote Marine Laboratory’s Elizabeth Moore International Center for Coral Reef Research and Restoration, Scout STEM work with Mission Iconic Reefs at source link https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/news/environment/2021/05/03/former-mote-scientist-david-vaughn-develops-smaller-coral-nurseries/7379652002/ -
The stolen bikes amount to a nearly $20,000 loss They broke the door open and just started grabbing bikes,” said Scott Arrington, the director of camping for the Boys Scouts of America Circle Ten Council. He said 23 out of 30 bikes were stolen or damaged after they were abandoned nearby. “Bikes are in very high demand. I think the idea is their eyes got a little bigger than maybe what they could feasibly take, and they tried to take more than they could carry out,” Arrington said. He said the thieves even used the Boy Scouts’ wheelbarrows to carry things out. More at source. Don't read, it will just upset you more...yeah, more thefts occurred weeks before at this camp - Camp Wisdom. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/nearly-20000-worth-of-bicycles-stolen-from-dallas-boy-scout-camp/2621716/ Better security needed for camp assets! Each year, especially during late winter and early spring, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) receives reports of sick or dead birds at feeder locations. Buckardt Thomas, an avian ecologist for the DNR, says unsanitary conditions at birdfeeders can lead to the spread of several diseases including aspergillosis,, salmonella, and conjunctivitis amongst birds that frequent these feeders. “Practicing good hygiene at feeder stations is the key,” she said. “Clean birdfeeders and waterers with a 10-percent bleach solution about once each month and make sure the feeder is dry before refilling it with seed.” Cleaning up spilled seed and bird droppings below feeders is another important preventive measure those who maintain feeders should practice regularly. ( I will be scout-like and not speak of squirrels. - RS) “Be sure to wear rubber gloves while cleaning the feeders, since humans can contract some diseases, such as those caused by some salmonella bacteria, from affected feeders or sick birds,” Buckardt Thomas said. If you find a sick bird or birds at your feeders, Buckardt Thomas recommends taking down the feeders for at least two weeks to help stop the spread of disease. She also encourages contacting your local wildlife agency. In Iowa, members of Gilbert Boy Scouts Troop 157 have their annual birdfeeder cleaning fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shop, 213 Duff Ave., in Ames. Feeders can be dropped off today at the store or until noon Sunday. Feeders will be ready for pickup after noon Saturday or from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The suggested donation is $5 per feeder, but additional donations are encouraged. All proceeds go to the troop. Agree, Arrow WV is a "subordinate company to BSA" so they are part of Debtor in Chapter 11. Concerns have been expressed that Arrow WV is being used to hide assets ...act as a shell company. If true, the Judge should dismiss this Chapter 11 case due to bad faith by the Debtor (the Good Faith Principle in the Bankruptcy Code). Another $0.01,

Back to OP, Simplify. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy is filed by one corporation. If that corporation wishes to add its independent affiliates for whatever mutual benefit to that bankruptcy, that corporation must find the means to do so. Within the BSA Charter and By-laws, the means is to revoke the charter of independent affiliates (local councils). Affiliates (Local Councils) who remain independent along with their representatives are removed from these proceedings. Stays ordered by this bench for those independent councils are hereby released. All property assets are unrestricted. Any seeking restrictions should apply as creditors. There is no requirement of property assets for the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America in the Congressional Charter of the BSA. Intellectual property is restricted by the Congressional Charter. Regarding victim compensation, it is not about arbitrary allocations of money rather the best help to heal and defense against future abuse. Show the court what that best help is and what additional safety measures need to be taken. My $0.01,

Chapter 11 announced - Part 3 - BSA's Toggle Plan
RememberSchiff replied to Eagle1993's topic in Issues & Politics
As mentioned earlier, Chubb the other BSA insurer has attempted to buy The Hartford at least 3 times in the last two months. March 11, Chubb offered $65 a share, a 13% premium for shareholders and a valuation at about $23 billion. March 30, Chubb offered over $67 a share. April 14, Chubb increased its offer to “$70 per Hartford share, the top end of our range,” payable approximately 60% in cash and 40% in Chubb stock. All rejected by The Hartford. Another thought, the largest payout for either insurer will likely not be BSA related claims, rather covid. Winter storm damage claims in Texas and other states will also be a big payout. Chubb has an estimated market value of $72B. https://www.courant.com/business/hc-biz-the-hartford-rejects-more-buyout-offers-chubb-20210422-twlr5wfww5d27ikbzuqndkhbiq-story.html https://www.businessinsurance.com/article/20210422/NEWS06/912341344/Hartford-profits-fall-9-in-Q1-catastrophes-COVID-19-coronavirus-virus-pandemic- Another $0.02, -
