  1. Installing a competent scouter as your Council Advancement Chair, IMO would be a better solution.
  2. Many? Where's the training? If there was one member who pulled that crap at a EBOR in our Council, our Advancement Chair would educate that person rather quickly about Eagle advancement policies and procedures.
  3. Ray Aldous joined in 1943 when he was just 11 years old after being pushed by his father who was a war veteran and scout member himself. ‘It keeps me as fit and as healthy,’ Mr Aldous, from Luton, said. ‘I still keep active and I am still pretty much involved with the town. Mr Aldous was honoured by the Queen in 2015 with an MBE for services to Young People and Scouting. (MBE is Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Scout salute - RS) He said: ‘When I was notified by Buckingham Palace and received the MBE for my services of the scout movement. ‘This was such an unexpected honour to be singled out for such world-wide publicity. I am immensely proud of my MBE.’ Great photos at source link: http://metro.co.uk/2018/02/13/britains-oldest-boy-scout-still-active-age-85-7309906/
  4. The fundraising form is not for expenses, those are listed elsewhere.
  5. You (scouters) can ask questions and vote at a National meeting? And the meeting is outdoors, not in some hotel?
  6. Most of our scouts continue to self-fund or family-fund their projects, just like the old days. No fundraising paperwork needed. That budget determines the project selected which is a different approach from the project specifying how much funding needs to be raised.
  7. Proper pancakes with chocolate spread or nutella? No wonder we revolted. We wanted freedom to cover our pancakes with maple syrup. I cannot recall a Fat Tues before Valentines Day so I have to get Mrs.Schiff her sweets today. Already bought her some GSUSA lemon cookies which the Girl Scouts kindly placed in a Happy Valentine's Day bag.
  8. All of a sudden, I am hungry for pancakes tonight! Any recommendations for a scout pancake dinner tonight? Here's one possibility. http://messenger-news.com/2018/02/07/local-boy-scout-troop-host-pancake-supper/
  9. @ScoutMaster1068 welcome to scouter.com. Which requirement is this?
  10. Those deadlines could easily change. I predict a huge PR push ahead of Jambo. Again just my guess as to what is coming.
  11. Yes agree. IMO they wanted girl "Boy Scouts" at Jambo 2019 and to be there, those girls needed time to meet the same attendance prerequisites as boys.
  12. IMO the rush was/is the World Jamboree at Summit 2019.
  13. "ScoutFest (Scotland)– our festival for adults will take place at Scout Adventures Fordell Firs on 15-16 September 2018. ScoutFest is going to be something very special for our adult members. We’re planning a whole weekend of skills development opportunities, training, programme ideas, social events, camping, and loads more! Scouts Scotland AGM (Annual General Meeting - similar to BSA May meeting - Annual Report, Board elections, major issues) We will also be hosting our AGM at ScoutFest – our first AGM where all adult members in Scotland will have the opportunity to vote on any constitutional decisions and Board elections. At our AGM in November, the Scottish Council voted to extend its membership to all adult members of Scouts Scotland. The Scottish Council is the overarching governance body representing members across Scotland. It was previously a relatively small body made up of select roles and nominees from National, Regional, and District level. Decisions made by The Council affect all members, so it is crucial that it is truly reflective of our membership. All 11,500 of our adult members will now have the opportunity to take part in consultations, decision-making, and elections. This means that our governance is now more accessible, transparent and democratic. As part of the Scottish Council all adult members of Scouts Scotland will receive information about the AGM and elections. We will do this by email, so please make sure that your email details are kept up to date on Compass so that you can receive this information." https://www.scouts.scot/news-events/news/scoutfest-2018/
  14. Back in the day (here he goes), adults would keep watch on tents, as older scouts were known for raiding rival troop camps, leaving camp for the nearest town/ice cream stand, Girl Scout camp,... the usual young masculine pranks of that day.
  15. @denibug72 , welcome to scouter.com ...finally.
  16. Disappointing that some have taken this discussion off the rails with exaggerated, explicit examples that have no place in a topic about Girl Scouts, let alone a scouter forum. Too bad, as this OP story is still developing. If you don't want to follow the Scout Oath and Law in writing a post, your post will be removed. It is that simple. Topic is locked .
  17. @ChickenMan welcome to scouter.com .
  18. I am referring to the lack of an apparent National policy and this comment. “This is kind of a community issue,” said Mike Lopes, a spokesman for the Girl Scouts of the USA. “For the most part, it’s not any different than selling in front of any other kind of shop. It just happens to be a marijuana dispensary.” and that some California Councils have allowed it , Colorado went back and forth.
  19. I am still waiting for the "official" Girl Scout position. Here's what I have found so far A spokeswoman for Girl Scouts San Diego told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Tuesday that the regional council of the national organization is not investigating the matter, but would discuss it with the girl and her family if they ever find out who she is because there are very particular rules about when and where Girl Scouts can sell their popular cookies each year — and “consequences” for repeated infractions. “It’s not a cut and dried situation when we don’t know who the girl is and we don’t know what the situation is,” said Maryl Doyle, director of communications for Girl Scouts San Diego. Doyle told The Union-Tribune on Monday that Girl Scouts are prohibited from setting up booths outside commercial establishments without explicit permission from business owners on an approved list. Doyle said that Urbn Leaf “is not on the approved booth site list.” http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/the-conversation/sd-no-disciplinary-action-against-san-diego-girl-scout-who-sold-cookies-outside-marijuana-dispensary-20180206-htmlstory.html “This is kind of a community issue,” said Mike Lopes, a spokesman for the Girl Scouts of the USA. “For the most part, it’s not any different than selling in front of any other kind of shop. It just happens to be a marijuana dispensary.” ... The San Diego scout isn’t the first girl to anticipate munchies outside a marijuana distributor. In 2014, a 13-year-old sold 117 boxes in two hours outside a medical marijuana clinic in San Francisco. The Girl Scouts of Colorado said in 2014 that it did not allow scouts to sell cookies in front of marijuana shops, liquor stores or bars. But it has since abandoned that policy, AnneMarie Harper, a spokeswoman for the Colorado organization, said in an interview on Wednesday. “Back then it was a blanket: ‘No, you may not,’” she said. “Now, it’s more of: ‘Come to us, tell us where you want to be and what you want to do,’ making sure we’re checking off all of the safety guidelines.” ... Some girls have sold near breweries, she said, but she wasn’t aware of anyone trying to stake out a spot near legal marijuana sellers. “We really want girls to be cookie entrepreneurs, to find new and creative ways to reach customers,” she said. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/08/us/girl-scouts-marijuana.html
