  1. “The Pine Tree Council of the Boy Scouts of America is very thankful to SIG SAUER for their leadership and participation in the Maine Shooting Sports Experience. This event is a cornerstone to funding and expanding our scouting programs. Thanks to the marquis sponsorship from SIG SAUER, we were able to increase our fundraising by 10% over last year,” added Eric Tarbox, Scout Executive/CEO, Pine Tree Council, Boy Scouts of America. “Our Scouts were also thrilled to be joined by professional shooter Lena Miculek who was very generous with her time and talent, and participated on one our teams and provided lessons. SIG SAUER really made this a once in a lifetime experience for all of the participants that will be talked about for years to come.” The shooting event was held on September 6th – 7th and included a competition event at Camp Hinds in Raymond, Maine. https://www.ammoland.com/2018/09/lena-miculek-attends-sig-sauer-maine-shooting-sports-experience/
  2. I am amused, tinkled pink actually, at all the young , talented makers and entrepreneurs who are saying no to Apple, Google, Amazon, Wall Street, ... job offers and starting their own companies. Quite different from back in the day, when we were trained to be employees of GM, IBM, GE, Wall Street... My $0.02

  4. About 10 people die each day nationally from drowning, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is about 3,536 fatal drownings annually. The Utah Department of Health estimates 26 people in Utah die annually from unintentional drowning. Children 4 years old and younger have the highest drowning rates in Utah. Forty-three percent of child drownings in Utah happen in open bodies of water, 30 percent happen in pools, 18 percent happen in bathtubs and nine percent happen in “other” situations, according to the Utah Department of Health. For every child who dies from drowning, there is an average of five other children who receive emergency care for nonfatal submersion in water. https://universe.byu.edu/2018/09/18/drowning-is-a-leading-cause-of-death-1/
  5. "If an event is 72 hours or longer the adults must be registered whether they attend for 1 hour or the entire time. " Ok, I guess we will run 3 separate 24hr events which will occur on 3 consecutive days,
  6. I believe they make this request annually. 2010: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2460165/posts
  7. IMO it was popular because it showed cowboys could still be cowboys in the present day plus it had just about everything else to draw an audience and entertain. I wanted a dog like Bullet. Though different times, I see similarities between Roy Rogers and Fred Rogers. I think it is great when someone famous will stop and sign an autograph on a baseball card, scout card, etc. for a kid. On my '69 trek to Philmont, we got tickets for a Cardinals game. And who was playing them but our home team Phillies. So there we were, uniformed (with community strips) South Jersey scouts in the right field stands cheering our Phillies during pre-game warm-up. We yelled their names and stats, the NJ towns we were from,,and all things Philly. We were loud but courteous and ignored except when the Phillies told us to... A Cardinal player came over and welcomed us to St. Louis and asked if we wanted his autograph. What scout would not want a Bob Gibson autograph! We became new Cardinals fans.
  8. Yes, I wonder why they did not use "stripper" meaning to reduce or strip layers?
  9. Back in the day...what a lucky scout, getting his membership card signed by Roy Rogers. Now that is Happy Trails! Source: http://www.readingeagle.com/news/article/reporters-notebook-roy-rogers-signed-boy-scouts-card
  10. Those high-up with little field hands-on experience often conceptualize, create new buzzwords or , and seek advice from outside consultants. The Polaris Method scouting website states the "Polaris Method Elevator Pitch" (so Peter Drucker) which got me thinking. Are there any elevators in tents, scout camps, council buildings? I suspect there are at Irving but anywhere else? A theory ...Someone at a National meeting must have said "I read on scouter.com that the Girl Scouts are working with an outside (Meaning REI) consultant" which was misunderstood Say that a great idea lets bring in an outside consultant guru. My brother-in-law's company brought in this Lean Manufacturing consultant. ... can't get more outside of scouting than manufacturing. Will the Polaris Method become a polarizing method between National and employees, pro's and volunteers? My $0.02,
  11. Goodwill Northern New England and the Commissioner for K-Valley District of the Boy Scouts is working to make sure no Boy Scout goes without a uniform. Appears to be a combined uniform donation, new scout registration, uniform distribution on one night. More details at link: https://www.wabi.tv/content/news/Free-Boy-Scout-uniforms-to-be-handed-out-next-week-in-Waterville-493191391.html
  12. Reminder: Philmont Scout Ranch will dedicate the National Scouting Museum at 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 15). The ceremony and ribbon-cutting will be followed by a luncheon with guest speakers Gov. Suzanna Martinez and Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh. https://www.taosnews.com/stories/national-scouting-museum-to-open-at-philmont-ranch,51681
  13. Same here, SM and ASM's and some other adult leaders have or will meet that deadline. No spouses of those leaders and no other parents as of yet despite reminders . Hard to press them in Sept for one more hour with all the outings, fundraisers, Eagle projects, as well as school, family,... where they are helping and some of them have already taken another YP for school, church, clubs, and sports volunteering.
  14. @Haukehaien welcome to scouter.com
  15. Scout's honor. Ask him how he plans to square it. Maybe he will surprise you and say he has already spoke to his SPL or SM. Meanwhile find a nearby JOAD club where your son can learn archery. My $0.02,
  16. Thunderbird Challenge Slated to be an annual event, the inaugural Thunderbird Challenge was hosted by the Boy Scouts of America and pitted four teams of people from local businesses against each other in competition for bragging rights and a plaque. ... “The idea of the event is to take people who are not necessarily affiliated with Boy Scouts of America (Pacific Harbors Council) and introduce them to our program and show them some of the exciting parts of scouting,” said Charlene Miseli, the development executive for the Pacific Harbors Council of Boy Scouts of America. “We say that there is no scouting without outing, so a lot of our emphasis is on outdoor activity and bringing different business teams out here to compete head to head in scout activities shows them some of the ways we use to develop our leaders in our program.” Overall, camp staff said they viewed the event as a success and three of the four teams went home with a trophy. “We’ve had a lot of fun, knocked off the rust and worked out some of the kinks today and we will absolutely be doing this event annually, said Miseli.” ?? Sounds like the way camporees once were for scouts - patrol method, patrol competition.
  17. @ScoutmasterP welcome to scouter.com. We have not, worth considering. I would add the frequency of CO and BSA YPT recertification.
  18. At the end, the leaders concluded that my son and another scout (along with other scouts) lured the kid into the wood with sharpened sticks and want to do something to him. Few weeks later, we are told that my son would be suspended for 6 months. Has your son apologized to his victim, his troop? If the SM followed procedure, he reported this incident to Council which would make joining another unit difficult.
  19. There are multiple discussions ...time to separate. Here is one spilt. and the other (suggested by @ParkMan and @Eagledad I believe) Thank you for your patience. Sequencing errors are probably my fault.
  20. Effectively in terms of executing event or teaching scouts? Exploration in terms of seeking a balance between the two?
  21. "At Girl Scouts we're always looking to be even more relevant to girls," she said. "But let me tell you, there's a mobile device in each one of their hands and we want girls not just to be users of technology but creators, inventors, designers. The world is being remade around data and we want girls to be part of that." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/girl-scouts-ceo-sylvia-acevedo-learned-from-selling-cookies/
