Thanks, Thats what I thought. Either the person at the shop was told wrong or they was trying to boost sales or both?

Never said boys all had hats.Only 2-3 boys have hats, 1 has both. What was stated again is national is no longer wanting boys to wear pins on hats thus pushing the colors. Now if parent is having hard time money wise, it would be cheaper to buy the colors than the hat if you had to only choose 1.

Thanks for the replies, I agree that the cost is not that much to ME. However with our pack getting dues paid is a struggle. We have families that won't try to fundraise to help THEMSELVES. So I see this a being something else to deal with. What I am really trying to find out is,that this a National Decision to that they can only wear pins on colors? Nothing else.

Hi, I was told by my wife the other day as she went and got a few pins badges for our webelos that from the lady at scout shop that national guess you would say is pushing only pins to be worn on the webelos colors not on hats any longer. has anyone heard about this? Was lead to believe only place you could wear pins is on hats or colors. Now if is this true, what happens to boys that can't afford either? Seems like it is a way to push for some extra$$$.

Hello, I am trying to find out how to make a simple plaque to give out webelos for the AOL. Not wanting anything fancy as tools, shop area might come into play. Does anyone have a source for a template of the arrow or have a ideal? Thanks

I think it would help and should require at least 1 campout, after all this is OUTDOORSMAN badge. Yes it is easier to do a lot of these while camping, but you don't have too. I have schedule a few campouts so far, had different boys show up that could. I simpley told parents that I have set up a few campouts, if you can make it great, not be okay too, there will be a chance later.Think it will help a boy to get some camping in for the future.

Well just back from my last weekend at WB. have to admitt, gonna miss it some. had a blast, got to meet a lot of great people I call FRIENDS. Our patrol presation went very well, infact was told it moved a couple people to cry some. I did not think it would had that much impact on them, I did not think it was great or I did a good job, but guess I did. Looking forward to working my tickets.

Yep played that game.

We started last year, and we had only a few boys that sold. We tried to encourage selling of it, to offset boys expenses. We basically broke it down this way, all boys who sold got a small amount on a gift card to scout shop, wal mart it was a reward for selling, a percent went to pack and the rest went to a account. They could use it for anything scouting related. Clothes, dues, trips , if scout needed boots for example , he would need to turn in a reciept for a check to be issued. We do not give checks or cash out. My son sold enough to pay for all his scouting last year including camp and still has some left over.

Hi all, Well just finished my 1st weekend of my WB course. Very busy and fast paced. Did not know what to expect from the course. At first was wondering why we did some stuff, then later realized that it was for a purpose. Looking forward to my 2nd week, just hate to leave family again. What is funny is had some car problems coming back, got home fine, went to fix the problem and started sing " BACK To GILLWELL" guess I enjoyed it more than I thought. Used to be Antelope and good old Antelope too"

My stance is that these are Individual Sport BL's, they do not say that a boy CAN NOT earn these for the sportsman BL. They give a list which is only a partial list of the many. To me if boy earns them, even while at a camp they could be counted towards the requirement. Loops that not allowed should be cleary stated, to end futher debate. See another way of making money for BSA. Until I see something concrete, I allowing them.
-
I would say yes. It says a individual sport, does not say what per say, Just as ScoutNut mentioned only a refernce tool.
-
I had a couple of boys earn a hiking BL which is a single sport along with bb gun and archery which they earn at camp all listed as single sport BL'S.

I have had a couple of boys go to day camp at earn some awards for the stuff they did and also did the requirements for a activity badge this suumer vacation. Yes we gave them their awards but it was they earned them. We meet all year long so they can work on things all year long. I give each boy the chance to earn things and will help them even during the week if needed. Still falls on boys to do their part. So if little Johnny earns a couple things and gets them at a pack meeting, instead of getting mad, maybe they should wonder why they did not?

Working with your son at home, when all other Webelos must work in the den, or bring in their work to be approved by you before getting credit, is why your son, and none of the other boys in your den, has earned AOL. You are right to be concerned at how this appears. Please - make sure you are giving the other Webelos in your den every opportunity to earn their AOL in a timely fashion also agree with that, but don't knock the boy or parents, some parents just drop off their kids have no ideal whats going on or don't try to help their son. I go over what needs to be done and hand out things to help them finish their requriements. Only a couple follow thru with that and wonder why some boy got this or that. because he earned it.A DL can only do so much to help, a boy needs to do his part as well. There is a reason for "earning" and not "giving" awards out.

Scoutnut, "I am a bit confused as to what, exactly, you want/expect your council to do about your Pack's lack of leaders", Nothing as to help with getting leaders, that another problem all together. Our problem has been lack of quailty training, or lack of any there of.We just seemed doomed from the moment we started. Never see our UC, understand that they others to deal with it, their time is important as well as mine. Our pack would be better with more help, but you can't force anyone to do it.Hard for us to promote a JSN and get more boys and no leaders, hard to run a pack with 1 dl.

Well our has about 11 total, this is our starting of 2nd year, we had couple cross over to BS, but mainly right now we have webelos 1 den, and couple 2nd year ones as well. We have 2 wolfs. Our problem is lack of help to run dens, I am basically only fulltime perment dl we have. The other WDL is having scheduling problems do to work hours changes, he still wants to do it , but I fear it will come down to me. No one wants to do the wolfs den. and quite frankly not lot of support from council all the way down to our parents of our pack. Like everything else people wants someone else to do it. I would like our pack to grow, but with the way things go now, be lucky to get thru this year.

as to welot/iols courses my council has them and I took one to just to have it done. was tod that you needed to have it to take webelos camping that from a district training chair, that being said other districts in our council has said it was not required, but highly suggested to take. not sure if I really needed it or not, but thought knowledge would be helpful for the future. the one thing that did not like, is there was not a lot time spent on subjects, it was way to rushed in my thinking, it does no good to try train someone when you give them a short time frame to pick up info or demostrate things you learn in one of the classes i.e. knots, first aid etc... you get poor results, i rather been taught only 2 things all weekend and got good training then 6-7 with poor results
