  1. Trail Pounder, As you brag to Laurie, "...business is booming, I pay more taxes than youth pastors make, We're going sailing and camping next week, got Cards tickets for the 24th....Life is good." Charity begins at home.
  2. When I was growing up, I'd get a good scolding or spanking for repeating the words of this topic.
  3. Eyes down in repentance...I WAS feeling, just for the moment, kind of ilky. But to specifically address the topic, I was listening to an evangelist on the AM band back in '95 sometime. He had worked out the date and was calling the flock together. Here's the rationale. Herod was King at the time of Jesus's birth. The second millenium was supposed to be 2K after that. Herod died in 4BC. Ergo...the big bang was going to occur in 1996. I'm sorry I didn't tape the show because I never heard the guy again. Come to think of it, maybe he was right! Yikes!
  4. Trail Pounder, Hey we have some common ground after all! And man, what altitude off the end of that freeway! Jason OK, I have always viewed it the other way with a Judeo-Christian dominance. That certainly is the case in the South and, I think, most other areas of the country. How do you explain your view?
  5. I'm wondering under what circumstances the liability umbrella applies? If an accident on an outing occurs, resulting in damage to property, it sounds like even with a tour permit the CO and leaders would solely be liable if the outing is merely a unit outing. No umbrella?
  6. ScouterPaul, I understand your points and I agree. However, I add that while I was growing up I heard plenty of Biblically-justified racist views. And there were plenty of racist hate crimes committed just has heinous as the recent beheadings. You don't even have to go that far back. The men who dragged James Byrd, Jr. behind a pickup until his body disintegrated may or may not have been Christians. To me they were (are) criminals. However, if anyone is interested in viewing some very repugnant things about the Christian Identity movement, for example, here is a link. Pay special attention to the section on Iconoclastic Biblical fundamentalism: http://www.fact-index.com/c/ch/christian_identity.html To JasonOK, I make a gift of another link: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/a/abrahamlin103535.html
  7. Bob White, OK but now I'm wondering why we are required to get a tour permit if liability is limited to the CO and leaders. Please clarify.
  8. There once was a skit a long time ago. The main line was, "Water, master, water!" Probably not PC today though.
  9. Jason, you do know, don't you, that the rapture already happened? Back in 1996 sometime...you were left behind with the rest of us ilk.
  10. Similar to OGE and Ed. OGE, don't feel too bad about the Nixon thing. A lot of us made the mistake, me included. I'm registered to vote but this state doesn't designate a party so I am unaffiliated. That said, I will not vote for Bush this election. I do plan to vote for some good people (who happen to be a mix of Republicans AND Democrats) for other offices.
  11. To me, people who commit murder or other crimes are criminals. If they try to justify it on the basis of some religious belief, then I think they are either engaged an a self-deception or not brave enough to take the personal responsibility. By the way, I think words to the effect that God in some way condones persecution of Jews are blasphemous and un-American. Same when applied to any other group of people.
  12. I am interested in learning more about the BSA/Red Cross agreement and changes in the regs. I have some boys who may be interested.
  13. Bob White, that's a great anecdote. I'll have to remember it.
  14. Bob White, I see your points. The only thing confusing to me is what do you mean by "something more concrete"? Could you be more specific, maybe give some examples?
  15. I wanted to be Kit Carson when I was really young and lost my aim during high school. But I ended up very happy with my plight. Not exactly Kit Carson, but close enough. Oh yeah, made it to Eagle.(This message has been edited by packsaddle)
  16. BadenP, Hold on there partner...Eamonn and OGE have been quite polite and tolerant, at least for all the reading I've done. I think you're being unfair to them. Bob doesn't like for persons to speak for him so I won't - Ok, I will a little...but although he seems gruff, I think he's well-meaning. TP, well, doesn't seem to like me very much but that's his right. I'm young. I'll get over it.
  17. I read the first post and thought about Jim Jones. I like to make it myself, thank you. What's wrong with water?
  18. So.....is Baal worship a true religion or isn't it? Are there any Baal worshipers left somewhere? Are you sure we're not talking about a Star Trek episode?
  19. I saw some really nice ones while recently getting a bikini wax.
  20. Uuuuggh, got me again.(This message has been edited by packsaddle)
  21. Marinelaw, I'm glad to see it's happening to someone else besides me.
