How many people actually use your units website? It seems that everybody has computer these days and nobody wants to use it. Our pack has a very informative website but we still receive the phone calls and people still ask for times, dates, directions and everything else? We have done everything to make it easy to use. We have mailing list, we automatically add people when they register. We update the site regularly. But the Field of Dreams saying just don't work. (If you build it, they will come). We might have 12 active users and that's it. Does anybodys else's website have 100% participation?

I don't know about the totin chip but the cub scouts rule number 3 for there whittling chip is "I will not use my pocketknife when it might injure someone near me." Go figure!

I have been doing the ashes thing since I was a cub. I really could not tell you where all the ashes have been since it started way before me. My Mom started with my brother and the only thing I can say is it has been around. Here is a list of places I know mine have been. I know the ashes havs been to Philmont 3 or 4 times 1985 and 1989 Jambo multiple summer camps and winter camps I know the ashes attend a campfire with Green Bar Bill My first camping trip, my brothers first camping trip and my sons first camping trip They have attended Woodbage twice and multiple National Camping Schools with my mom and pretty much every camping trip my brother went on from 1977 - 1987 and every camping trip I went on from 1985 - 1995. Now it is my son's turn to take over the tradition. What I do is get film canisters and fill them up with the boys so they can take a piece of the camp home with them and then I tell them why we do it. Original B-P ashes? I'm not sure.... I'm guessing you would have to mix your ashes with ashes of someone who has been following the tradition for a long time.

University of Scouting Website class
Pack378 replied to Pack378's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
sorry for the late response, I have been working and they moved the thread on me. I appreciate all the good ideas everybody has been giving me. I think I am going to have a basic class to start off with and ask if anybody would like to do an advanced class at a later date. OK here is the kicker......... What do we call it? We have cool name like OWL and Baloo training, what do we call a Basic website development class? I thought about WOLF but all I got was Basic Website Lxxxxxx Fxxxxxx. I still need something for the L and the F! -
I know this topic should be in the web area of the forum but I thought it would get a better response here. I was asked to do a website class at University of Scouting. I was just wondering if anybody else had heard of a class like this being offered? I am kind of crossed on what kind of class I should give. Should I go the more technical route, explaining FTP, SQL, Java, etc. or should I go with a more basic approach like rules and regulations set by national, what should and shouldn't be on the website, the time it takes to run the website, and maybe free resources novice webmasters could use to start there own website? I am thinking about going with the novice class because I think more people will come out the class with a better understanding of the web. If anybody has any ideas or resources I can use, PLEASE help.....

WOW, am I late on this one.... Should Females be allowed? Yes I think any adult leader should be allowed on a camping trip. Do I think non-registered parent be allowed? NO. Boy Scouts should be a boy ran troop. The boys should work and live as a family and be dependent on themselves and there brothers. So, I believe if a parent wants to go camping they should 1. register and 2. be there in the capacity of a leader and not a parent. (including wearing a uniform). What would I do if I was a female and he didn't want me to go to meetings and camping trips? I would become a registered leader and if did not like it then I would bring it up to council. One, more thing.... ask your son if he even wants you to go, I know I would not have want my mom to go.... LOL I have seen toooooo many times were parent want to turn a Boy Scout camping trip into a family camping trip and the Scout always second guess everything his scout master, patrol leader etc. says and looks at the parent for guidance instead of his fellow scouts.

Our Scout master required it.... We had inspections once a month at any given day. For the boys who did not wear there uniforms on a regular basics they did not proceed to there next rank. I don't know what the handbook says now but it the first thing it said for each rank was "Show Scout Spirit" and if we did not wear our uniform we did proceed in rank. I am having the same problem with the pack but all my tigers wear there uniform because they are getting used to it a young age. Put the responsibility on the boys not the leaders, let the boys fix the problem. Good Luck! The uniform makes for brotherhood, since when universally adopted it covers up all differences of class and country. -Baden Powell Show me a poorly uniformed troop and I'll show you a poorly uniformed leader. -Baden Powell

this event was so nice last year! It was 25 bucks a person which ended up costing me 75 bucks plus drinks, popcorn etc. Two thing, 1. they should have told us before we set up camp and 2. If they would have asked, I think 600 Scouters could have cleaned the stands in less than an hour. I would have helped if they would have said the word. I'm going to wait for Monday and see what council says........... -
Well, it is Saturday morning 7:51 to be exact. Our council had a Lights out night at the local minor league baseball field. It started out nice with a game, then fireworks. After the fireworks we were then allowed to set up our tents on the field and they were going to play "Night at the Museum" on the scoreboard. We get on the field, set up our tents, kick back to watch a movie and then BAMB! they hit us with this " WE WILL NOT BE TURNING OFF THE LIGHTS DO TO THE FACT THAT AN UNSCHEDULED GAMES IS AT 11 IN THE MORNING AND THE CLEANING CREW HAS TO WORK THROUGH THE NIGHT TO GET THE STADIUM CLEAN". So here we go, we have the kids all jacked up on sugar from the game and now they are not going to turn the lights out? All night, all we heard was blowers, machinery, people working and the BRIGHT lights. What happened to the lights out? The kids did not sleep, the parents did not sleep and a bunch of people went home. I am sorry but this was not a pleasant trip. I'm not the kind of person to complain, I try to make the best out of anything but Come on! I think the stadium should refund our money and send everybody a apology letter! Wait till Monday when I go to the Stadium on Monday and complain............................

So I am thinking about getting a little experienced uniform shop going in our pack. This is really a question for the people who have already done this. How did you get it started? Do you rent them out? Do you sell them? Do you hold a deposit? Do you do trade-ins? I really think this is a good idea, but I am looking for some ideas on a system that works....

I have read that you can wear Jambo patches on the back of the jacket but is it approproate to wear a jambo patch from when your were a kid on there? I have a nice 1998 jambo patch that I got when I was a Boy Scout that I would love to put on there. -
Here is the problem, I have a tiger cub who's bed time is 7:30 - 8:00. Our den meetings are at 7:00 which means we don't get home till 8:10. With baths, brushing teeth and everything he does not get to bed till almost 9:00. Am I the only one who thinks 7:00 is to late for a den meeting? I want to bring it up to the committee but I don't know if I'm out of line....

I have thought about using a flexfit hat with the pack numbers across the front..... Here is an example: http://www.cspack378.org/forum/index.php?topic=58.0 (This message has been edited by Pack378)(This message has been edited by Pack378)

I have been doing research trying to find out who makes the official Cub Scout hats. What I want to do is make a custom pack hat but I would like to use the same kind of hats... If nobody knows, what is a good brand of youth ball cap that I could use.... thanks
