  3. I would think they are all the same clips Bear Dad. First weekend I saw clips from: Remember the Titans From Earth to the Moon - Episode 5 'Spider' and the whole movie October Sky(This message has been edited by oldisnewagain1)
  4. Glad to hear it went well! My second weekend starts Saturday and I cant wait!
  5. I heard some Districts/Councils are using SWAT (Scouts Want Adults Trained) in their areas. I mentioned it to our DE and he had never hear of this. Has anyone have any experience setting one up?
  6. If you know someone who welds, they can make you a lid lifter very easily. (Maybe a lid rest too.)
  7. Be sure to look it up. You'll need to print it, because nobody will believe you. BDPT00 Interestingly enough, I did look it up in my official "Wood Badge Songbook" that I was required to carry on my person at all times at NE-II-192...ee "I use to be a Bear And a good ol' Bear too, But now I've finished Bearing..."
  8. I don't remember were I found this but this is a good one Chicken and Shrimp Chicken breasts, shrimp, snow peas, celery, and bean sprouts. Similar to a stir-fry. The meat was place on the bottom (btw the chicken had been slightly cooked prior to going), with the vegi's on top. I had a couple of dashes of Teryaki sauce, some spices (tarragon and others from a pre-mix spice jar). The only difference is we use chicken tenders so we don't have to pre-cook and you could get the deveined cooked shrimp if you wanted. Though I haven't done it since I was a scout there was no foil meal we use to do. Take a potato and carefully cut a core out of the middle (length wise) of the potato. Fill the center with a mix of hamburger, onion and cheese. Create plugs for ether of the potato using the core. Now it seems to me we use to seal the plugs with some egg white but I think there were times we forgot the egg white too. We would put a layer of mud around the potato and put it in the coals for about an hour or so. I guess if you wanted to skip the mud you could wrap in in foil instead (maybe two layers). The really important thing to do is to try the foil dinner you decide on first before the training(This message has been edited by oldisnewagain1)
  9. Catchy isn't it! I found myself singing it on the way home yesterday from my first weekend too... My head is still spinning from the weekend and getting up this morning seemed so surreal. I never felt so in-tune with things or laughed so hard in a long time. I already miss it. "I use to be a Bear And a good old Bear too" NE-II-192(This message has been edited by oldisnewagain1)
  10. Although it's a bit hard to explain, After the game show, your patrol yell became... (done on our knees' in our best munchkin voices) "Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow road..." NE-II-192 BEARS
  11. Just finished first weekend... Wish I brought a stadium chair or just a cushion. (Man, those benches are hard.) Glad I brought; A small piece of leather (big enough to wrap around the patrol flag pole) and a small gas powered soldering pen. I used the soldering pen to mark our totem on the leather and later we will wood burn our names on the pole. My favorite wood carving knife. (Great for making bear claw totems!) Ear plugs for sleeping. NE-II-192 Bear
  12. and now I'm proud to say... I used to be a Bear and a good ol' Bear too, Now I'm finished bearing I don't know what to do. I'm growing old and feeble And I can Bear no more So I'm going to work my ticket if I can... Back to Gilwell, Happy Land! I'm going to work my ticket if I can. NE-II-192

  15. Pardon my posting of an old Scoutmasters minute but I think it applies here; A friend of ours was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset. As he walked along, he began to see another man in the distance. As he grew nearer, he noticed that the local native kept leaning down, picking something up and throwing it out into the water. Time and again he kept hurling things out into the ocean. As our friend approached even closer, he noticed that the man was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach and, one at a time, he was throwing them back into the water. Our friend was puzzled. He approached the man and said, "Good evening, friend. I was wondering what you are doing." "I'm throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it's low tide right now and all of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don't throw them back into the sea, they'll die up here from lack of oxygen." "I understand," my friend replied, "but there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can't possibly get to all of them. There are simply too many. And don't you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast. Can't you see that you can't possibly make a difference?" The local native smiled, bent down and picked up yet another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea, he replied, "Made a difference to that one!"
  16. While looking at the "necker" may I also suggest looking at neckerchief slides and perhaps do a search on Whittlin Jim or "slide of the month"
  17. At summer camp two leaders were talking when a scout holding a cup ran by. A few moments latter the same boy ran by them again with an empty cup. This happens a few more times before the Scoutmaster stops the scout to ask him what was going on. The scout replied "The mess hall is on fire" to which the Scoutmaster replied "You can't put out the fire with a cup of water." The Scout smiled and said "Water? This is gasoline."
  18. Odd question I know but when ever I seen a woogle (on a historical Wood Badge web site) it has two wraps but others say there are three wraps like a turks head. So is a woogle the same as turkshead knot?
  19. Right now I'm a Scouter, a good old Scouter too. But since my troop is boy lead there's nothing much to do. I'm restless and perplexed, there must be something more So I'm going to train at Gilwell when I can Going to Gilwell, I'm a happy man I going to be a critter when I can
  20. Well ... just got some Chaos 2 tents http://www.alpsmountaineering.com/ALPSMountaineeringChaos.htm from scoutdirect.com and I am amazed how good the quality was for the price we paid.
  21. "Sticky" sounds like a good idea! I going to use the things suggested for my upcoming WB. NE-II-192 (insert tasty critter here)
