I don't have an issue of helping an organization like a church, a wildlife area, AT service group, ... etc asking for help. Its when someone is getting paid to do something and wants the troop to do what they were hired for.
-
Let's say, as an example, a professional Landscaper gets paid handsomely to do yard work for a client. He asks for troops to help in a "conservation project" of raking leaves and removing them
-
Is it only me or have others seen an increase of requests for free labor from Scouts in the form of “service projects These requests are not coming from other non-profits or community service organizations and the requester is getting paid.

Or you might have to share a tent with a spouse you are separated from but not yet divorced

Some other ways to ignore him... Whoops...forgot to schedule FOS presentation. Go across district borders and attend another districts event. Or to really get black-balled Go to another council's Training, Wood Badge, Camproee, MBU, and/or Summer camp

Can a Council take over a tree stand?

4. A unit does not have to participate in JTE 5. A unit does not have to participate in District/Council events -
Will this mean lots more SPAM in my inbox ? (queue Monty Python Vikings) "SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, ..."

For what it's worth... Our troop's PLC votes with it's feet when it comes to events even when it comes to attending events. They will cross district and council lines when they find an event or camp they want to go to.

I know that National is VERY protective of the Scouting brands but recently when looking for some fonts there are companies selling Cub Scout font Scout font What happen to brand protection?

Tips for a first time Quartermaster...

Understand, something will go wrong. Depending on how well you plan, prepare, lead your staff, and execute, will determine whether it a large problem or a small problem. And always have a Plan B -

Do we really need summer camps?
oldisnewagain1 replied to SpEdScouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
After thinking about this a bit, no we don't necessarily need Scout camps. Now I know BP said "“A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room.†but I seem to be missing the part that it has to be in a official Scout camp. A week of camping, hiking, canoeing with the troop also would fulfill his thought. Would the Scouts have fun, comradeship, learn Scouting skills, be leaders on such an event? I certainly hope so! Now don't get wrong, I love my time at Scout camps and would not trade it for the world. For some Troops, Scout camp is the only option for a week away and this is the reason why it doesn't make sense to get rid of Scout Camps. Certainly, Scout camps make it very convenient for Scouts to earn Merit Badges which would be much more inconvenient to earn otherwise. Consider this from a different angle. I need transportation to my workplace. I want to drive a car. (Would I like to drive a brand new Porsche Boxster...sure but I can afford a used Toyota) Could I take the bus, bike, or even walk to work...sure It comes down to wants and needs -
To staff woodbadge or not
oldisnewagain1 replied to mashmaster's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
*cue the music* "I wanted to be a staffer, a good old staffer too! I've even had some training so I’d know what to do. But politics so old and feeble, and I can staff no more. So I won’t wear my beads when I can. Back to Troop, happy land" Your mileage my vary but for me the answer will continue to be No -
Who is your troop's trailer registered to?
oldisnewagain1 replied to blw2's topic in Open Discussion - Program
The trailer is registered to the Scoutmaster and not parked at CO -

If I give them an idea, it's more in the form of a challenge. They have to figure out the details. For example Build a Klondike sled from pallets only Have a "no-utensil meals" campout Hurl a tennis ball across the field from here (It's to far to throw.) (Not my idea) Build me a Ferris wheel without using nails
-
That's because the outsiders were looking for a guy called ... Heisenberg
-
...and when FOS doesn't quite fill the quota, assess an new "activity" fee to registration. Five dollars additional for each Scout at time of troop registration.

Disclaimer: I’m a beaded 21st century Wood Badger Most of the material presented, though the staff did an excellent job presenting it, was concepts I had seen before in a good many “flavor of the month†management programs. If it were me, I start from scratch only using Baden Powell’s “Aids to Scoutmastership†, Francis "Skipper" Gidney Gillwell materials, and “Green Bar Bill†Hillcourt’s Wood Badge course, to develop a core outline. I then add just enough to bring it up to date. As far as the tickets go, I believe one should have to work to achieve. IMHO I have little respect for a ticket that can be worked in a month or two.
