I believe that Scouting professionals are considered part of the region. You will also see this on Scouters who hold positions in the region and sometimes the section OA officials will wear it.

The right sleeve is the one where on a youth the den number or patrol patch is worn. Position 1 on that sleeve is the American flag. The left sleeve is the one with the troop number.

I believe I have seen it always on the right sleeve

One of the simplest record keeping tips concerns control of the units copy of the advancement report. Make sure you get everyone of them, even if you didnt turn it in. Three-hole punch it and put in a binder with the most recent one in front. This is your control; it backs up any software program that may be used. With those forms you can rebuild any other system. It may not be user friendly to create reports but it will save your bacon if something goes wrong. If you don't have copies from before you tenure, you should be able to go the scout office and make copies of the ones in your file there. You only need to go back to the earlist one with the longest serving present scout in the troop.

There have been some comments that have been made in recent posts concerning the financial status of a poster. While I do not agree with his posts, to make unkind remarks I believe is unscout like. If I heard a Scout making a remark like some that I have seen I would have corrected him immediately.

There also is a program that the BSA had a few years ago that the troop could use to fulfill this requirement. I think it was called Drugs a Dangerous Game. I have also heard of homeschool co-ops having DARE classes. You might suggest one of the parents bring it up to a group they belong to.

My guess she is there by the virtue of her position as the president of the council's Venturing Presidents Council. Many boards have youth members on them both in and out of Scouting, most of them ex-offico. You being a lawyer would know if they legally can have a vote in your state. I would believe anyone under 18 in most state could not serve as an officer of a corporation. I have never seen any requirements for executive board members.

Each scout at the election may vote for any number of the canidates and any one whose name is is on half the ballots is elected. In your case if you have four scouts at the election anyone who gets two votes is in.

Congratulations on your Troops 50th. May there be many more. Though it makes some of us fell real old when you say way back from 1960.

For the Youth, the Lurkers, and the Youthful Lurkers
NWScouter replied to OldGreyEagle's topic in Issues & Politics
For some people (Ill admit myself sometimes) believe if you do not agree with what they are a saying then you really are not listening. For if you really listened you would agree with them. A corollary to this, if the process go against them or their views (a vote, hiring, etc.) the process must be flawed, because if the process was fair the result would be what they wanted. -
Explorers and now Venturers start at age 14 or completing the eight grade and are co-ed. Venturing is for young men and young women ages 14 to 20. (http://www.scouting.org/nav/enter.jsp?s=vy) Plus as I said you don't have to be in a unit to work at summer camp you can be registered as a council employee.

Yes she was a member of Explorer Post 407, which became Venturing Crew 407 in which she is now an adult leader. She is also a grad of Idaho State in Outdoor Recreation and a Brotherhood Member of the OA. I recently heard that you dont need to be a member of a unit to be on staff, the registration may be from the council level. Her postion last year at camp was High Adventure director which inclues our climbing tower and COPE.

where does the Venturing BSA patch go on the kelly green shirt
NWScouter replied to dana_renner's topic in Venturing Program
If I remember correctly there was an Explorer patch that went on the Red Jacket pocket in place of the Universal Emblem. I dont think there has been any thought put in to the use of the red jacket for Venturing. -
We have had very little problem with female under 18 on staff. I would say the percentage of problem staffers is the same for male and female both under and over 18. In fact at one of our camps this year a young lady I have know since she started on staff at 14 (CIT) will be our Program Director. I believe that a well recruited and supervised staff makes for the best summer camp.

You're right Bob, I was just thinking about them looping around the shoulder and the arm. Thanks
-
The sew-on bars were replaced by the gold shoulder loops. Denners are now in office as long as Patrol Leaders. I guess there were moms who just didnt want to sew them on and take them off in three months Just a pet peeve of mine Referring to Webelos Dens as patrols. Yes the they wear Boy Scout patrol patches and pick names like Boy Scout Patrols but they are still to be referred to as den such as Cobra Webelos Den.

On that December night in 1776, George might have told himself that this raid on an enemy camp in Trenton, New Jersey, better work. Or else he might be ordering his last meal before the British strung him up. But the general rallied his ragged, barefoot troops across the icy Delaware stepping into his boat, Washington the plainspoken frontiersman, not the marbleized demigod nudged the 280-pound General Henry Ox Knox with the tip of his boot and said, Shift that fat ass, Harry. But slowly, or youll swamp the damned boat. (Dont Know Much About History by Kenneth C. Davis he is quoting Knoxs own story) Washington had presence, yes-even gravitas, but we sometimes forget he was man of his time. On changing words in the King James translation of the 1 Corinthians 13 we have the word charity it is now in the more recent translations, love, which now more correctly translates the Greek word agape for our time understanding. The Englishman of Shakespeares time one word worked but now another makes the modern reader understand.

A little while ago there was discussion about Venturers at the National Jamboree. I happened to see a National produced requirement brochure and one of the boys pictured is wearing a venture shirt, at least the collar is dark green. I believe the answer to the question we had of Venturers going is that they must meet the requirements (under 18, first class), which females cant meet. They must of course join to the contingent troop. Any Venturer over 18 may apply for Jamboree youth staff.

This thread was spun from another thread. Many councils have awards specific to their councils. Then there are councils that see an award given out by other councils and decide to have a similar award. But the local council decides the requirements. They can be high adventure, winter camping, specific historical or special interest trails (not the national award) and any other that the council or its volunteers may think of. What does your council have? Also brief summery of the requirements. We may find one that might fit in our area.

Here is an interesting thought. It is my understanding that the oval Webolos badge is replacing the diamond one and the old one will be no longer available. Since the individual Webelos has the option of wearing either the blue or tan shirt, what happens when he earns the Webelos badge, when he opts to wear the blue shirt. Does he remove all the patches on the left pocket or is the oval badge even worn on the blue shirt? The tan background of the patch would look out of place.

I beat you by 3 days and 37 years in Seattle, Washington. Have a Happy Birthday.

Unless it is run through your council you cant get one. The process is long and has many BSA and US immigration hoops to go through. If you dont have backing of the Council you might as well forget about it for this year and start working on the powers that be in your Council for next year.

Many Councils and districts have volunteer personnel and committees to market Scouting to the local area, everything from submitting press releases for Eagle Scouts and various newsworthy activities of council, district, and units to coordinated recruitments campaigns for new members. They also provide training in roundtable and University of Scouting in methods and ideas for local units to market them selves. This is where I believe the more effective marketing happens.

First it tends not to be a good idea to split the Troop in going to camp because the camp experience is to help the Troop build the patrol and troop leadership. I have known Canadian Scouters who have come to our council camps and they have told me that the Canadian camps are not as developed as ours and leave most of the program up to the troop.
