an 18-21 is considered a youth and must be elected by the youth of the troop.

OGE & Trailpounder Venturing crews cannot tell members they cannot wear a lodge flap. The kelly green shirt is an option to crew members regardless and national sets the standard for what can be worn on it. Just like no leader can add to it no one can take away things a scout has earned. What do we do tell the 2 Eagle scouts out of 8 males in a crew and 2 gold award receipiants out of 4 that they cannot wear the honors that they earned? Now talk about being silly! As to the females not being allowed to be elected as a youth, no crew member is allowed to be elected as a youth, NONE, that goes for males also. In order to be elected you must be a member of a Boy Scout troop, not a Cub Pack or a Venturing Crew. Why is it that people believe that everything must be open to everyone. Not every member of a Boy Scout troop is eligable to be elected , those that are not just have to learn to live with it or do the things necessary to become eligable.

Trail Pounder, Why would it be wrong to wear a lodge flap on a venturing uniform? That comment is downright silly. Does that mean he should not wear his eagle badge? Or a female venturer should not wear her Gold award on her shirt? Just because you cannot earn something doesn't mean I have to change to suit you. And even if a crew votes a specific uniform, venturers have the option of wearing the Kelly Green shirt at formal occasions. They cannot however tell another crew member what patches to wear or not wear if it authorized and he or she wants to wear it

see http://www.oa-bsa.org/qanda/qa-48.htm , according to OA website you can wear it on any uniform.

OGE, A venturing crew member that was elected as a youth in a boy scout troop and then moves to a crew can wear the venturing uniform with his lodge flap on it. see http://www.oa-bsa.org/qanda/qa-35.htm. so if he can wear a flap he can wear a sash too. We have meany adults that are venturing advisors that attend OA events in venturing uniform and wear the sash.

one of the things we started 3 yrs ago was to do our district dinner on a roundtable night. People are used to meeting on that night. We did a short presentation then awards and such. we use door prizes and gifts and trinkets. When we started to go to this format we increased attendance by 200 percent.

If the Venturer is a member of the OA and is at an OA event, yes they can

Please leave is all I am going to say. You have no bussiness here

So I guess that means you were brainwashed at an early age and now can't help yourself or be held responsible.

Clarification on Charter Organization Representatives
nldscout replied to Bob White's topic in Council Relations
Both our Troop and Pack have the same CO, same number, same CC for both, but have a different COR listed on the CHarters. Its been like that for longer than I have been in the Organization and no one has said anything about it. -
HELP! The STAR... what does it mean?
nldscout replied to MaineScouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
If you had read my post from sunday, I stated then that the 5 pointed star has no meaning except that it was the star that was on the first flag. BSA just used the standard star. -

HELP! The STAR... what does it mean?
nldscout replied to MaineScouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I do not want to get into the side tracked discussion about BOR or SM. I will answer the question what do the 5 points mean. They mean abolutly nothing except what ever rumors or stories someone can think up. I spent a number of years with the Old Guard, Army Ceremonial Unit, This question came up when we were looking at historical flags. According to the Researchers at the Institute of Herioldry the 5 pointed atar on the american flag was what was chosen for the first american flag. It has no recorded meaning. The scout badge just used the same 5 pointed star. So any meaning is another Urban scouting legand as far as I can see. -
I am curious, I spent 25 yrs in the military, I didn't see any units that were sponsered by government agencies. Does anyone have an example of a unit chartered to a military unit?

Here is a question relating to this area. Everyone says the CO owns everything, a point which I dispute as no one has yet been able to show me or anyone a R&R that says that, Whats to stop a committee who is in this kind of situation from disposing of the troop equipment by transfering it to other troops? Say the committee like in this situation knows the CO is maybe looking to get rid of the troop, so you transfer ownership of the equipment to a neighboring troop, who then "holds" it for you until you recharter somewhere else. If the committee that the COR has approved votes to do this, whats to stop them? Everyone says the funds and equipment belong to the CO, but that depends on which state you live in. Any lawyer will tell you that property laws vary greatly from state to state.

Troops that do Whitewater Rafting?
nldscout replied to johnmbowen's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Not to start a big debate, but I consider White water Kayakers to be the most unsafe ones on the water. No commercial rafting company here in NY has had a fatality, but several WW kayakers have perished. But, its like every sport there is a degree of danger, it just depends on your attitude as to how you fare. -
Troops that do Whitewater Rafting?
nldscout replied to johnmbowen's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Our troop here in Northern New York does Whitewater rafting. Infact this is our weekend, we are rafting the upper Hudson River. We coordinate this trip with several other troops. We do not own rafts due to cost and certification requirements. We don't Kayak, but we canoe alot, and are working on the gear for Whitewater canoeing. We also sponsor a big canoeing weekend in June for anyone that wants to attend. This year we had 14 troops and over 180 scouts and scouters. We had a group come over 4 hrs to canoe this year. If anyone is interested let nme know I will send you details. Paul -
if you look at the article in the link, these were specially made for a select group as a presentation gift, not for normal use by everyone. Us regular folks still get red on white sashes
-
If you want the Info on the red and black sashes go to http://www.oa-bsa.org/events/n2000/live/sat/whiteonred.htm This explains them

I like both the cast Iron and the aluminum ones. We use both regularly and I have found no difference in cooking.

I for one beleive that the CSE is worth every penny he is paid. If you want quality leadership, you have to pay for it. Compare his salery to some of the other large Non-profits.

Ann, We all have burned one good once upon a time. Its not the end of a dutch oven, you can use this as a lesson for the girls on how to care for one. My first time using one , I cooked a pineapple upside down cake. I put like 20 coals on bottom and 6-8 on top. Talk about burned. The brown sugar was sooooo badly burned even steel wool would not touch it. We boiled it for what seemed like hours. Ended up taking it to work to the automotive shop and puting it in the Bead Blaster(sand Blaster) to get burned sugar off. Then had to reseason it from scratch.

Sparkie said" At the troop level, it is mandatory the boys sell around $190 to support the troop " How can you make it mandatory? and what happens if you don't reach that figure? do you get kicked out? We do an annual dues ($50.00) and use popcorn to supplement budget and split profit 50-50 with boys. we do this so everyone pays equally

I agree with BW, Why even try and compare. I have A daughter in GS and son in BS, I hope both stick with it and achieve the respective awards, but I never compare the two. Everyones opinions will be different. And you know what they say about opinions.

You stand a chance of popping a seam and ruining the Canteen this way. Besides, dents are like a Badge of Honor, showing all the camping the canteen has gone through. Why ruin it?
