Webelos II moving up to Boy Scouts in September
nldscout replied to itsme's topic in Open Discussion - Program
No scout troop should accept boys not eligable for entry into Boy Scouts. These boys cannot have earned the AOL by september. -
Summer Camp Merit Badges Without Blue Cards
nldscout replied to DonM's topic in Advancement Resources
Even the National Scout Jamboree does not use Blue Cards. They use a mulitple part form with one copy going to the scout. There is no hard and fast rule that says you must have the blue card. Once its recorded in SCOUTNET thats all thats required. Out of 100 scouts I bet 99 don't have all of the Blue Cards for the MB's they have earned. -
merit badge system for Jamboree
nldscout replied to brustleen's topic in Going to the next Jamboree?
What MB's did he take? Maybe someone on here knows the counselors. -
Arrowman168, In the future I would make sure that only eligable scouts and the Scoutmaster were present when I gave the speech and showed the video. We ask all others not eligable to vote to stand in back of room away from scouts except the SM. Where was the SM in this? Didn't he sign the Nomination form ahead of time as required?
-
Does the home troop and Scoutmaster know about this? Was he charged with a crime? If the answer to these is Yes and the scout is close to Eagle I would qwrite a short letter of NON-recomendation to the Advancement chairman in your district.

Jamboree Surplus Equipment Auction ?
nldscout replied to Greeneagle5's topic in Going to the next Jamboree?
It will be the same as 2001. A private company has been hired to auction the stuff off. The problem is the lots they offer are way to big for a normal sized unit. In 01 it took about 45 days before it was auctioned. -
our council has car magnets for FOS, Camp beaver and such for thiose that help out.

And a patrol can do activities without any leaders present.

Scouter roles for 18-21 year olds
nldscout replied to stlscouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
If they are good role models, make them ASM's. There is no limit to the number you can have. Not many troops will turn down a willing volunteer. Make older scouters into committee members. AS for changing the rule, only national can do that, and I don't see that happening. They want to avoid situations where an 18-20 yr old is the primary leaders. -
Scouter roles for 18-21 year olds
nldscout replied to stlscouter's topic in Open Discussion - Program
18 to 21 yr olds can only be an ASM. No other position is authorized in scouting. To be a committee member you must be over 21. -
So what do you do if a scout says, "NO thanks, I am not doing pushups" Do you kick him out of the unit?
-
No matter why you think you can justify doing something like this, scouting is not the military and this form of punishment has no place in scouting.
-
So CM What happens if a boy refuses to do them?
-
Amazing that a committee would think that they could just up and vote to replace the person who appointed them. I would be careful as the CC could fire all of you.

First of all the Eagle BOR has no way to check and is not authorized to check on previous ranks. If the application is signed by council Rep as dates being ok thats all they see. They don't see MB cards or anything like that. So how would they know?
-
I know spam when I see it. scouters posting here always put in a disclaimer when they are recommending something like this. But that would be hard seeing as you are making money selling them

Experts: Scouts unprepared for Jamboree
nldscout replied to cajuncody's topic in Going to the next Jamboree?
I am suprised she didn't advocate building a domed area that is airconditioned to put on shows. I bet she has never done anything close to this size. -
Your SM needs a reality check on this one. Why would you not count days camped as a boy scout?
-
While it may seem crass and uncaring, the scout official that said they share blame in this is absolutly correct. Common sense should tell you if nothing else not to put a tent that tall under power lines. Be thankful that they were not successful in erecting the tent and it made contact with the power line a few hours later when the whole troop was having dinner and wind blew power lines into pole. The military has a safety rule that says NO OBECTS GO INTO THE AIR THAT IS CLOSER THAN TWICE ITS LENGTH FROM AN OVERHEAD LINE. So if your erecting a tent with 20ft poles you have to be 40 ft from lines.

Our council goal is 15% more than last year. Make goal you get standard percentage. Exceed goal and you get 50% of sales over goal. The secret is once goals are getting too high, you have a bad year, then you get to start at bottom on goals again.

No tents under trees? Does this mean I can carry a chainsaw with me to whack them down?

In 2001 the scouts that attended activities like scoutopia were asked to fill out sign honor and commitment pledge cards and sign the commitment wall sponsored by the Marines. The army guys asked them to fill out and sign similar things. Why some asked? Well where else can you get 30-40K prime youth to give you thier name and address. But active recruiting and enlist kids, not gonna happen. But you better beleive those 16-18 will be getting phone calls. But then thats where a big part of the money the military puts into this is from Recruiting funds.

Scout track is not scoutnet compatable, nor will it be based on the fact its an internet based system

If someone is telling you the $1.00 is for additional liability insurance then someone is outright LYING to you. There is no such thing. Liability insurance is national provided and national run, there is no fee, its what registration pays for. Our council atleast is honest in that when we recharter this year there is a council fee or $10.00 per person being charged to support programs. I wish they would raise Council fee to $25-30 and get rid of Family FOS. Atleast then everyone would be paying same fee.

You are correct in that the JAMBO is one big recruiting fair for the Military. And Why not?, It hurts nothing talking to them. As to 17yr olds be asked to sign on the dotted line. I am afraid thats another wild story that is simply not true. First off the recruiters are not dumb, they cannot sign a youth up until lots of paperwork and physicals are completed. Second a 17yr old must have parental approval in person to enlist.
