  1. ATCprofesr Again I ask, Council, district, unit, who was the fundraiser for? Just like to verify my facts before I say anything one way or other.
  2. Who says that the election is no good? We have done them this way before with no problem so I guess it depends on the chapter. If the chapter advisor says its no good then I would challenge him why he didn't show up the first time, that you did it properly, and if he still was obstanenate, then appeal to the Lodge Chief, Lodge advisor and the Chief of Fire.
  3. I for one would like to know what council and when did this take place what city and what unit who was running the event and raising money for whom? What does your revoction letter say why your membership was revoked?
  4. I second SR540's comments. Tell us what council and why your membership was revoked
  5. Sounds like unwilling to bend committee members to me "Da troop I work with pretty much does BOR's on demand. But, then, we use people beyond just committee members on BORs" If your not using committee members then these are not legal BOR's.
  6. As A past SM, I would count this as 1 event. Thats what it is. It is 1 event done on multiple days.
  7. Unbeleivable? NO, I think not. The SM asked for and received the ok to conduct a campout cross-over for the boys joining his troop. Thats what he has done. Regardless of who the book says should be running it, he asked, got permission and then carried out the plan. Now at the last minute someone else wants to step in and join in his troops campout and ceremony. Why should he allow it? If the other troop wants the webelos to cross-over to thier troop, why don't they plan a ceremony and conduct it for the 2 boys. We have done elabarate ceremonies for just 1 scout.
  8. See my note about Lions not being Coed in LIONS SCOUTS thread. According to literature from national Lions is NOT Coed. I am in one of the test councils and thats what they said today after I inquired. If one of the other test councils are doing it Coed, I would like to see the literature on it
  9. LISABOB and ALL, I am also in the same Test Council as CNY. I asked the council on Saturday if Lions are Coed. Took them till today to get answer. According to the Council coordinater it is "NOT" designed to be a coed program. He said no where in the literature does it talk about girls. It talks on of Kindergarten age boys only. So if someone in the 3 test councils says it is coed, i would challange them to show it reference that says that. Paul(This message has been edited by nldscout)
  10. lisabob, I am in same council as CNY, I emailed the DE to find out if it is coed. When we were told of this they said Kindergarten Boys. But after I pointed out this is a Learning for Life program, he wasn't so sure. here is what brochure says What is the Lions Program? A Learning For Life group that works in partnership with a Cub Scout Pack. Uses the Learning for Life Seekers materials, a set of values-based lesson plans designed for the kindergarten-aged child. An opportunity for kindergartners and parents to experience a small taste of Cub Scouting, and to share in the values-based education provided. How it Works: Group meets once a month to discuss one of the lessons in the Seekers material. Need not have a formal leader, parents can rotate who facilitates the lesson. At least one parent must be with their child at each meeting. Lions group also attends Pack meetings and events, and may be taken on field trips. In June, Lions graduate to become Tigers in the Pack, and can therefore attend Day Camp and/or Weekend Camp that summer. What Lions may do: Be considered a den within the Pack. Attend all Pack meetings with their parents. Go on Pack or den field trips with their parents. Take part in Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, and Space Derby. Go camping with parents. Wear a special T-shirt designed specifically for the Lions program, and receive a special Lions patch at the end of the year. What Lions may not do: Attend any Pack or den functions without a parent. Work on Cub Scout advancement, such as the Bobcat badge, belt loops, etc. Wear the official Cub Scout uniform. I see this as a real problem in future as LFL is supposed to be a seperate organization open to all and we are telling them they can mingle with pack activities.
  11. Its not that they are scared of publicizing it. All new programs are brought out in a limited number of councils to work the bugs out.
  12. ED, Problem with sueing is you must have standing to sue. The only one who can sue is the CO and they don't want the publicity most of time
  13. First if your buying patches made in China, shame on you. There are good patch manufacturers in the US that are just as inexpensive. As to cost charged, don't buy them if you don't like the price. Most advancement patches are reasonable priced. Things like OA and other special patches are priced to raise profits for the lodge. People pay the price because they want the patch, and it supports the lodge or activity.
  14. We attach a small fler to each bag so people know when to leave it and for what. We also use Bright Orange Bags so no one can miss them when driving or walking around. Plus we canvas streets several times to make sure we get the late placer-outers. That being said we still miss some, but we cured that by asking the Mail carriers in our area to tell me if they spotted any come monday morning.
  15. If your council is imposing a date to turn in application prior to 18th birthday and denying a scout a BOR even though the application is signed prior to his birthday then the council is wrong and will be overturned on appeal.
  16. TheFourGuardians The reason the popcorn question comes up is council gets 30+ percent of popcorn sale to fund all the programs your troop likes doing, so if your not selling popcorn then your troop is getting a free ride. So I would propose that you pay council 30% of your fall fundraiser to support the programs and support you enjoy.
  17. I have a question about this "FEE". We discussed this in our council as the council gets nothing of the $10 registration fee, it all goes to national. We looked at increasing registrations fee's to $20.00 for the year with $10.00 going to national and $10 to council. It wasn't a big problem and would have been low enough that no one would really have objected. It would have provided a income source that the council could use. The rub here was National told council they could not implement any membership fees so they had to retract this. I think its a shame because programs do cost at council to run.
  18. The ACLU is nothing but a blood sucking vampire of an organization.
  19. Being from a cold weather area like msnowman, when we have winter camped in the snow like this we have scrapped patrols and worked as 2 man scout teams. If you are building snow shelters to live in and cook in, it works much better. In fact during our Klondike Derby, we run an older scout event that is done in pairs after the normal derby is over. They campout in a winter shelter they build, must eat and sleep and function outdoors without going inside to warm up. Older scouts have a blast with it.
  20. How you get a YP violation out of this is beyond my reasoning. He hasn't broken any YP rules.
  21. Ed, Being arrested does not make you guilty. People get arrested everyday and never plead guilty or are found guilty at trial. If this was my son, and the SM or leaders asked him if he was guilty before this was agudicated in a court of law, we would have real issues to discuss. If you ask him and he says I can't talk about it, what then? Are you going to punish him for following his lawyers advice?
  22. I just looked at that councils web site, they have nothing on it about lions, infact they say cubs is 1st to 5th grade
  23. Scouter4321, You should ask the courts in your area about the rules for Youthful offenders. In NY where I am, and serve as a Town Judge, A youth 16-19 is considered a mandatory youthful offender for his first offense, so short of a Major felony his records of this type court action are forever sealed. No one in the law enforcement/legal community will even know he was convicted unless he is a repeat offender. To ask him would put the Troop, CO and asker at legal risk if he said something he shouldn't. Until or unless his case is finally adjudicated you have no bussiness asking him the whats and wherefors of the case. If you think he presents a danger to the troop then talk to parents, otherwise stay away from it.
  24. Certified troops was another local half baked idea that didn't fly
  25. This is a perfect example of the problem with single age group patrols. If those 8 older Eagles had been split amongst the patrols the art of leadship probably would have rubbed off on some of these Vikings. Now it appears you have a Leadership Vacuum and no boy leaders to guide
