  1. Extentions on Eagle if properly documented are not difficult to get. I know of Several that were submitted in our district and all but one was approved. The question I would have would be where is the approval paperwork. Without that in troops hand he is not a youth and you cannot allow him to work on youth things or work with boys.
  2. FROM the OA FAQ section. It is solely the discression of the SM, not PLC, not Chapter chief, not COR, THE SM! This is why the SM gets paid the BIG BUCKS..... Q: Who decides what camping activities qualify for the camping requirement needed for election to the Order of the Arrow? A: With the camping requirement, as with all other eligibility requirements, it is the Unit Leader's job to interpret whether a Scout has met the requirement. As stated in the Guide for Officers and Advisers (#34997A, 1999 revision, page 20): "Unit Leader Approval. To become eligible for election, a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America and have the approval of his unit leader prior to the election. The unit leader must certify his Scout spirit (i.e. his adherence to the Scout Oath and Law and active participation in unit activities). The unit leader must also certify that the nominee meets all specified requirements at the time of this annual election." Other than defining the length of time needed for a camping activity to be considered a long-term camp*, the National Order of the Arrow Committee leaves the interpretation of the camping requirement to the unit leader. * A "long-term camp" is one consisting of at least six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping. A "short-term camp" is anything less than that.
  3. At the risked of being burned at the stake, Youth females do not belong in OA. If yours or other venturer females want an organizaton like OA start something. They tried once with Corp of Discovery, it flopped due to no intrest.
  4. When we merged a few years ago, the new council tried that $1 for insurance per event lie. We just told them we were not gonna pay it. We now pay $1 per scout and leader per year for the whole year, so everyone pays the same. As for the other charges, just tell them your not gonna collect them, and if they try, you will cancel the evnt and they will get squat.
  5. There is no official interpretation in the OA rules. This is soley up to the SM to determine. So ask your SM what he would count.
  6. The issue here is has anyone actually seen the document? NO. All we have is the edetorial that says it exist. Its not on file at the court where the suit is taking place. Its not docketed in the public records, so I don't think it really exists. Someone show it to me or be quiet
  7. our guys like putting the chicken in a dutch oven, smothering it with BBQ sauce seasoned the way you like then cook for about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. Boils some noodles and searve with left over sauce. Quick, Easy, not a lot of clean-up. Hard to burn, really hard and its GOOD.
  8. There is nothing to this. If you want to read the truth go here http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data2/michiganstatecases/appeals/012005/25856.pdf
  9. First off, lets see the actual motion. No one yet except a reporter has seen it. Merlyn, Do you have a copy? I know the Mr. Battaglia from Syracuse and he is NOT a lawyer, he is a Scout executive. So lets see the document.....
  10. This appears to be a knee jerk reaction from adults who knew aboslutly nothing about what they were talking about. Its a shame it turned out badly for the boys and looks like it has destroyed or almost destroyed a Troop.
  11. who ever told you this is wrong. Cubs do two kinds of camping. Family camping with the whole family Pack overnighters with cubs and a parent, no additional family members. As far as permission slips, thats up to the organizer if parents are there. Its recommended, not required. Health form is optional for short term events also.
  12. I want to make sure I understand you. This is for summer of 2007 camping season? Is the camp that full that you have to make a reservation that far in advance? What happens if you can't make it on monday? What camp and council is this anyway?
  13. OK, buts a saturday afternoon, Council Office is closed. How doe you contact them? While no one likes to talk about it, if your going to take youth on High adventure, or even any trips, you need a procedure in place. After something happens is not the time to fumble the ball
  14. as others have said there is no way to do this legally, I say that because councils are legal non-for-profits that are set up to support a defined area. So if your CO is in council A you cannot use them as CO to charter in Council B. Even the council cannot legally allow this without rinking thier status. So you option is to find a CO that is in the council boundries of the council you want to join. Have them charter the unit. As to numbers that really isn't an issue as the number would have to come from the NEW council, so unless someone in that district is using it, you should have no problem. You do however have the issue of equipment and funds to address. Not to change subject, but why do you want to change councils? Care to share your reasoning?
  15. You are the SM, not the District Commisioner. You deceide if he has fulfilled the requirement. If the DC doesn't like it, politely tell them to take a hike. If MOM can't accept it she can take son to another troop and start all over with POR again.
  16. I would tell you it is the committee's choice. The CC needs to talk to the SM about this.
  17. Why would you have such a thing as an "Event Rider"? Liability insurance is provided by national for the entire program at a set rate regardless of number and type of activities. Sounds like so much bull to me! I would ask why or better yet don't charge for it
  18. Ya know, your just like a lot of tunnel vision parents now a days, if you see "NO RETURN ON INVESTMENT" you see nothing coming out of it. Whats wrong with your son just having a good time with his pals. My advice is for you to NOT be involved, nut let your SON stay if he chooses.
  19. It appears to me that you have already made up your mind, your just looking for us to justify it. If you look at it thru your eyes "Why stay when there appears to be so little return on the investment? " If you don't want it then let your son participate until he doesn't want to, you don't always have to go with him.
  20. Yes you can have co-chartering organizations. Ask your registrar
  21. I say we should stop feeding the TROLL
  22. Unlike a public beach, I think most self respecting male Scouters wouldn't be caught dead in a speedo, atleast none that I know. If you wore one to our camp, I think it would be mentioned, and mentioned, and mentioned for quite sometime. It appears the female swimsuit rule is an old carry over as its been in the rules for as far back as I can recall.
  23. This definatly a NO-NO. For several reasons, 1. NO raffles 2. You solicitied from businesses 3. Cubs selling Raffle tickets 4. Cubs selling tickets in uniform. As for the idea that if there is an object the would do it as "Friends of local Scouting" . If it looks like a DUCK and quacks like a DUCK, then usually thats what it is. Anyone that would use a lame excuse as that is knowingly violating the rules and should be called on it
  24. One elecion per year, NO revotes.
  25. Lynda J, Ownership of the Bank account and the units equipment is dependant on the state that you live in. There is no 1 size fits all rule of unit equipment. If they let someone seize the assets then they should have fought that issue. There is no where in the BSA R&R that says the CO absolutly owns the equipment. Its not even in the Charter agreement. If someone tells you that thats what the R&R's say, ask them to show it to you. They won't be able to. We even asked the Puzzle Palace in Irving and all we got was a very non-commital answer. It is all dependant on the property laws of your state.
