  1. Again, I would caution doing anything until I had the whole story. If his name is there so should be the charge. Look at that and see what he was convicted of. If you have any questions PM me.
  2. cb2boys if you go to here http://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/CJ38/search.jsp That is the State Sex offender registry for your state. You can enter the name and look to see what he was convicted of. The sex offender registry is searchable in all most any state. Its public information. When teach YP we alrays ran it for the town where we were teaching it. IT can be eye opening sometimes.
  3. Lisabob is absolutly correct about using caution here. Unless you know why he is on the list don't condemn him. Use caution and DO NOT spread any stories until the council has ruled on issue. As a judge I have sentence young men of 17 that had relations with a 15 almost 16 yr old on Sex abuse charges because parents pushed the issue even though it was mutual consent on both parts. In this day and age there is no forgiving on these type charges. So these 17 yr old males now have a record thats sealed, but still must register as a level 1 sex offender. If this is the case with this person and its entirely likely given his age as a tiger parent, then maybe its not really an issue. Most states will tell you why they are on registry, its public information there for the asking.
  4. lisabob, Do not automatically assume that you would lose the trailer money or anything else if you changed CO's. You should find a lawyer that can look at your states property laws and determine who really owns the equipment and money according to the laws of the state you reside in. It differs from state to state. There is no one size fits all rule on equipment and money ownership of BSA units. It differs greatly depending on where you live.
  5. If you read the requirements for unit award a Pack does not qualify. The wording is a liitle unclear "A Hornaday unit certificate, No. 21-110, is awarded to a pack, troop, team, or crew of five or more Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, or Venturers for a unique, substantial conservation project. At least 60 percent of registered unit members must participate. At least 60 percent of the registered unit members must participate. These units may be nominated, or they may apply to their BSA local council for recognition."
  6. Eagle74 "My legal eagle buddy however, tells me this leaves the door very much open for him to make my life miserable if there is an incident and I didn't follow the "strong recommendation." If nothing else he says he'll sue me anyway and one of the first questions he'll ask is why I didn't follow such a "strong recommendation" from higher on the totem pole than I." It won't matter if you did have a lifeguard, or if everyone was, or how many rules you followed to the letter. If we are on an outing and something unfortunate happens your going to get sued. Thats what the liability insurance national provides is for.
  7. What are the 5 Merit Badges that he is lacking. If one of them is Personal Fitness or Personnal Management he doesn't have time to finsh now if he hasn't started them.
  8. CNY, Safety Afloat Hasen't changed in MANY, MANY years. Lifeguards have never that I know of been required. While its good to have one and is recommended its not required. I know of no reason why they just don't do Tour Permit and do it right. If they have SA/SSD defense leaders then they have meet G2SS requirenments. Why fudge on something when there is no reason.
  9. CNY, Being as we are in the same council, I can tell you from past experiance that there are several people at coucil level that think all canoeing should be done at summer camp standards. We have disputed this with them for years while running our annual Oswegatchie River Run for 8 years. We just quit trying to explain it to them and went ahead with trip. Whoever sent you email is wrong, you are not required to have lifeguards if they are all BSA rated swimmers.
  10. gilski, You might as well squash this right now and not waste anymore of the troops time on this added requirement. Why is it no matter how many times leaders are told not to add requirements they tigure the rules don't apply to them
  11. When granted an Extention in our council you only get a letter from our SE, not from national. Its up to SE to get the OK from national and most of time that is done verbally. THe SE then signs a letter giving scout X amount of time. To get a 6 month extention is not difficult if documented. If he has a letter then the troop should have gotten copy also, or tell youth to bring it in so you can make a copy. If the letter is legit, then don't hold it against the scout, that would be petty. NOw saying that, I would be raising holy hell with council starting with my DAC, DE, Then CAC, and finally SE as to why they accepted an extention request without troop input. Then there is the other side, did they ask maybe your CCC or previous SM and they blessed. The council should never take one directly without troop leadership input.
  12. You may think its harsh, but the rules are there for reasons. Where your primary position is, is who is supposed to nominate you. Not to nominate people that would not be eligable. "Perhaps they chose me because I've been active helping out in district and Council-level events, as well as out-of Council matters." Adults are NOT supposed to be nominated for past service. If you don't like it then I feel for ya, but those are the rules
  13. Some of us think he has done a good job. But then like you each of us is entitled to our own opinion. My opinion is that your full of yourself and I care not to associate with you. Perhaps you should take your opinin on this and your opinion you expressed on Gays and go somewhere else
  14. Some of us see nothing wrong with this. He has done a lot to insure the military has supported the BSA.
  15. I am not sure how your district nominated you, but they did not follow the rules for district nomination as it appears your primary registration is in the Pack or Troop. Therefor you were not eligable for district nomination. This is why we have pushed for years to get ridd of district nominations, just because of this example.
  16. Sorry, But this young man committed a CRIME. So what , now all the scouts think,Gee if I do something wrong all I have to do is say "Sorry" and all is ok. I have to tell you as A JUdge I see this all the time a kid does things and no one wants to do anything. Again I say this is why we have courts for.
  17. For our PL, APL, SPL, and ASPL they have one plain red loop and 0ne red loop with green stripes on it that match the bars on the leaders patch. We bought them somewhere in Canada
  18. This is why we have police, courts, probation departments and Jails. You should have hung tough and pressed charges, let the chips fall where they may.

  20. Trevorum, I think your DAC is WAY off base. 1. There is no time limit on eagle if he has documented and approved Disabilities. We had an individual in our SN troop make Eagle at 35. 2 & 3 on the Council Advancement committee can modify requirements with documented disabilities. 5. MB counselors can not modify the requirements at all. MB councelors do need to be registered. 6. Only the CAC can approve alternate MB's for Eagle. But the boy must still complete the alternative MB in its origonal requirements. They cannot modify the requirements. Your DAC needs to get the Advancement P&P and read it. He has no clue what he is talking about. It is rewarding working with SN scouts. Some of those in our SN troop are really an inspiration to watch.
  21. John-in-KC, "The only option I see is qualified 18-20 year old women ASMs." She would not be qualified either. Under 21 you are a youth for OA rules. So she would not be qualified as she couldn't make 1st Class.
  22. I agree with OGE, the son needs to buck up and tell mom he wants to go without her. But in the same breath I think the crew also has a say in who can go on trips like this
  23. ok, so have your event, don't charge the fee then. what are they going to do? Sue you? We just told our council we flat out were not going to screw our scouts to line the councils pockets. All the SM's and CM's in our old coucil told them NO, so they had to back down and went to a fee for everyone at registration time. If they say its for extra insurance ask to see the policy for that event, I bet they can't produce it?
  24. So if we are only gonna only count what about summer camp in leanto's like we have in ours, or how about Igloo's in thge winter. This is why its up to the SM.
  25. John-in-KC Then I guess we are gonna have to disagree, because your wrong in my opinion and the opinion of the National OA. No where does it say the PLC gets a vote in the process. It is wrote the way it is to keep the process fair and equal.
