My sister lives in VB, VA. She has 3 inches of water on her backyard but no wind damage yet.

Every year I've been involved with popcorn I have asked why we don't have a $3-4 product. Would it kill either popcorn company to package 3 envelopes of microwave popcorn into a set?

Can't take another year of our current compound bows, so when I tell our purchasing guru we desperately need new equipment, I need a few recommendations. What are you using at your camps?

Our packs have begun crossing over in December so that the boys join their troops in January, which is also our recharter month in this area. The fall is dedicated to joining troops for campouts and visiting meetings while working on any final AoL requirements. The new Scouts are ablle to have more campouts before the Spring Camporee and are good and ready for summer camp by June, thier parents, too.

At the recent WSJ, I noticed that the US Scouts had the most decorative uniforms. They were also the only ones not wearing sandals. And, it was hot.

Seems like the G2SS is a lot more understanding of just about any other drug use simply asking us to understand addiction and what can be done to help without the heavy hitting lauguage.

Basement, Next time maybe you should incorparate at hour for all the boys for resetting the tents to dry at your house. Then take everyone over to the pick-up point. Maybe stash some icey-pops in the freezer for after. I know your pack is very low-income. Is there any possibility that some civic organization would be willing to donate cash so you could purchase a set of 15 sleeping bags to be kept at the pack storage (Possibly this is your garage, and Mrs. Basement has put her foot down.) Keep at it. You are doing more good than you know.

Someone in marketing thought this up. Wonder if they passed consumer psychology.

I know it's because I'm female, but...soap powders. Never know when you're going to need them for an impromptu load of laundry you just don't want to smell on the ride home.

"Staffing the District Committee"
Nike replied to SeattlePioneer's topic in Open Discussion - Program
I only did the online training a few years back because everyone said it was so frustrating. On my second time through I believe I figured out the computer program and how to game it. I also don't see why anyone who isn't somehow connected to Scouting would want to volunteer for district in an official, non-MBC capacity. The model seems to be the last vestige of the days when "club men" ran everything, and you actually not only knew who your upstanding citizens were you actually had a passing acquaintance with them. District seems to be the place where a lot of administrative back-ground support occurs. -
On not writing down everything you can think of: this is why the military has SOPs. If a unit is decimated, someone can come in and literally pick up the pieces and move forward. Holding out on information is detrimental to the program over the long run. Now, what are staff dominoe lanyards?

My husband often got bronchitis from similar conditions in the ME. If you don't feel better by next week, get thee back to the doctor.

A good cardinal rule is money raised in a budget year should be mostly spent on activities for that calendar year. How old is your troop? Did someone leave you a nice bequest?
-
Ditto for my son's troop. As for the Cub Pack....
-
One other thing to consider is what will be done if pieces of brass are determined to not be slavagable. Will raising funds for replacement be part of the project? Does your son have a craftsman and/or preservationist he can work with?

A group of people who like each other can still have a fairly formal meeting sitting around on park benches. As someone with at least one, maybe 2, more troops in my future, I prefer that meetings be conducted in a business like manner. My experience with "cozy" is that is has usually turned into "lazy" or "necrotic."

AHG Leaders welcome at BSA training courses?
Nike replied to WoundedFox's topic in Open Discussion - Program
An AHG leader once told me that they were the girls' side of Boy Scouting. I only smiled, but I'm sure my eyes popped. I wish AHG all the best, but wonder if they will be able to compete in an already saturated market place--music lessons, sports practice, tutoring, enrichment programs, dance, youth group, volunteer programs, AWANA and Girl Scouts. Somewhere in there a family needs to sit down and have dinner together. -
AHG Leaders welcome at BSA training courses?
Nike replied to WoundedFox's topic in Open Discussion - Program
AHG is probably at that point where they need to have a national convention and have a good solid four days of working committees looking at organizational problems and solutions, rewriting what has gone before, looking at best practices from other youth organizations, deciding how to handle some of these growing pain issues. Plus, it would give the 300+ troop leaders a great opportunity to meet and get to know one another. When GSUSA first started, they certainly didn't get much support from BSA or any other boys' organization. They had to do it on their own. Remember, girls' scouting was a radical, way beyond progressive, idea. Socialism made more sense to most. If AHG is going to grow and thrive, you have to plan for a troop in every county/parish with intermediate administrative support. -
Yay for your troop! Who's replacing her?

While FOS is a general donation, the pitches I've seen are based on sending boys to camp, refurbishing boy used property like sailboats and camps, and otherwise allowing, dare I say wanting, the donor to believe that all the money is going to directly touch a boy, or the boy will touch what it bought. Nowhere does the presenter ever say, or the materials specifically note in the tiniest print legally permitted, that FOS helps fund employee salaries. I suppose I'd like the FOS pitch to be more honest, or at least for the brochure to note that some salaries are funded out of that "programming" budget.

I personally hate the red bow, would ban it from camp in favor of take-downs: though I think that if the bow is relatively new and been properly set up and cared for, the boys should be able to get close to 150 (average score of 5 pts per arrow) with a week's practice and coaching. 170 (average slightly less than 6 pts) is going to separate the premium wheat from the wheat. I'm wondering why they uped the score requirement for non-compound bows. It's not like Archery is the gut Fingerprinting is.

AHG Leaders welcome at BSA training courses?
Nike replied to WoundedFox's topic in Open Discussion - Program
What percentage of AHG leaders are also BSA members or parents? Although AHG might want to work with BSA to create an AHG training program if they keep expanding. -
They've been running treks at Philmont for how many years now and they overbuy food such that it is then sold second hand? I understand about having a margin for error, but it seems the National level problem has been over buying for the Philmont commissary. As for the council, hell would have no fury like this parent having paid/supported fundraising significant amounts of cash for a trek where the crew was served significantly out of date food. It's not like they were in a survival situation and that's all they could find in the broken down cabin.

I don't give to FOS, or Girl Scout's Family Partnership, because I can't designate where that money goes. I would more than gladly give $200 a year for camperships, but I'm not subsidizing more professional salaries. Our DE works hard over two huge districts, but BSA needs to fund his salary from registrations, shop/camp profits, and general donations. Our boys bust their tails fundraising. I guess you can say I gave at the office.
