  1. ....demonized for success or thought the fool for thinking success came from work, not the government Is this coming off the new Mitt Romney speech?.. The one where the President did a speech praising people who build business, but also praises other workers as well as the government structure that help ("HELPED") them get there.. Such as teachers who educated them, the transportation infrastructure that helped them either get things, or distribute things they sold, and the internet which was created by the government, improved on by business and other businesses sell things from. Obama, never said that government created ALL business, just that business that a business man creates is not developed in a vacuum..
  2. I guess Jblake is saying Obama is unamerican (or a communist) because of the welfare system.. Like he invented it.. I agree with T2Eagle, there are a few spongers. I knew of one. But the majority of people need the welfare system, but desperatly want to find a job and get off of it. But, it was put in place especially for the bad times (like now) not for the good times. Personally I prefered the government aid jobs.. We have all these nifty looking stone walls all over NH, I am told were constructed during the depression.. Better use is to get improve the roads and education system, and other things that are needed.. I love our stone walls, but I think it was just a go and do type of job to keep peoples morals up and feel they were not taking a handout. But, that means government putting people to work, not throwing more people out of work.. NJCubScouter - at least we are still on political matters.. Come back in a few, maybe we will then be discussing the best beaches to spend your vaction at.. Or the newest teenage pinup idol..(This message has been edited by moosetracker)
  3. Well, Allen West was not humorously razzing a friend.. Basically it was done in a mcCarthy style threat style. Same with all this retoric of Obama where if he is not born in America, then he is anti-American... As well as him being Muslim (which who cares if he was.).. And also part of the Muslim mole opperations.. I'll got condemned for saying it in a post yesterday.. But I will say it again today about this topic.. Radical Conservatives!!! Radical Republicans!! Take your pick.
  4. Yeah that is interesting retoric.. But, from the title I thought you were going to bring up the item from Republican Allen West comments that the majority of Democrates in Congress are members of the Communist party.. http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2012/apr/11/allen-west/allen-west-says-about-80-house-democrats-are-membe/ Labeling anyone who disagrees with you a Communist, kind of goes more to the McCarthy era..
  5. Also option 04 may have the council reconsider it's invitation to allow you to start your own troop with your wife as (01).. They may not see you creating your troop by destroying another as a positive thing.
  6. I am surprised that the head leader of your GS troop was a guy.. I had heard from others that men are ok, but had limitations put on them. Other then that, I also am curious what you were questioning.. I also find it odd that the GS council gets involved in this.. In the BS, this is the time our council backs out and leaves it up to the CO or COR to figure out what to do.. In BS a volunteer could be terminated also, and we can have some dictatorships also.. You just hope the COR is involved enough to know the people & problems, and will have both sides of the story and the best interest of the unit before making a decision. But, it is not a guarentee.
  7. Thanks Merlyn saved me one look-up.. My use of the word "preist" was not because I was stating "Catholic" just someone of the cloth that get up and preaches on Sunday.. I was just making a statement from what I remember having read in the past.. The other statement seems to be Baptist. It has a nice audio of that part of the serman at the bottome of the article, if you would like to hear it.. http://www.advocate.com/society/religion/2012/05/01/north-carolina-pastor-advocates-punching-gay-acting-children
  8. Our troop went to Seabase, and the SM definately fudged his med form.. He was twice the size of my husband, my husband made it by 10 pounds.. I used to do med forms for summer camp, and I was pretty sure the guy was just forging the Doctor part of the form, never getting the form properly filled out. Couldn't prove it, but my spidy senses were always sent to tingling with comments he made just before or after he handed it in..
  9. Oh.. Out of country, that's different. I have heard good & bad with that.. Some countries have long waits with people going to them to put a bandaide on a scratch.. Others are very well run & organized.. Years ago, we were in Canadia when hubby got swimmers ear. Went to the drugstore to find over the counter, (because at home he had to get a Dr. appt. for a prescription for the normal stuff he used..) The drugstore was able to give him his normal prescription without the prescription.. He looked at the ear, figured out what was needed and prescribed it..
  10. If in Florida, I hear from a friend of mine, cheap and in and out in less then an hour.. (could be his local hospital, with quick.. But why cheap there?..) (His family has no insurance, or money.) If in other areas, I am surprised if you are not still sitting in the waiting room.
  11. I guess I would feel better if something stated the District rep was not of the unit with the Eagle scout.. I know that would not be the case as BSA has no problem with parent MBC's or anything else which attempted to insure fair play. But if the unit wanted to manipulate, sounds like an easy thing to sign up for a course to be a District rep, and then sit on all the EBORs for your troop. But then again while eisely might be discovered at a district EBOR it might not, depends on if they ask the right question.. Same with any other slick things the unit did, or the scout was doing.. It all comes down to asking the right question that brought it to light. I know our district board does ask about the scouts belief. Had one they did not approve because he claimed to be atheist, he fought up the chain and was denied.. One came close, because he said something that made him sound atheist, (something like "I don't believe in God") but then when he went out of the room for the board to discuss things, his SM tuned him into what he said.. He came back in and stated he was not atheist, but just didn't know what he believed.. They contacted his religious signer (who was a preist, and he went to a catholic school) While the priest did not say he believed, but more he was respectful of others beliefs.. They decided to consider the boy "in search of" or agnostic, and approved his Eagle application.
  12. Although I agree, and very open minded of you to think it over and come back and post your change of mind.. If your scouts are having so much fun with the singing, you might have to put on your thinking cap and figure out a different reason for them to show off their talents.. Maybe a cookoff every now and then and either the looser (or maybe winner) gets to sing..
  13. Well yesterdays wasn't around for 24 hours.. Someone deleted them right out.
  14. So.. Beav.. Did you loose it? Like anyone is on the other side of that spam that is going to read your comments & post back to you? Or are you just using the thread to vent and blow off steam as if it were a punching bag clown guy? I thought that when the monitors deleted yesterdays posts they would have closed the users account.. So monitors what do you do with overly obnoxious spammers? Besides having Beavah yell at them for you. Anyway if anyone else would like to vent, you can do it here as I am sure the monitors will delete the posts again..(This message has been edited by moosetracker)
  15. I agree with what you say Beavah.. That what was what I was getting at with what I was saying, but just couldn't come up with the verbal word of infrastructure.. I also don't know if this is the right way or the wrong way.. But, something has to be done. If hospitals could just deny helping people at deaths door who had no way to pay.. Let them die on the streets.. And it caused no health issues, to just let them die then it wouldn't be any problem.. It's like the small towns who have no fire service.. Don't want to pay for the upkeep.. Expected the neighboring town to give them service for free.. Neighboring town said.. "Nope, not unless you pay us $xxx amount per year.." Person does not pay. House burns down, fire trucks come to watch the weenie roast.. People are all upset, "Save the house..!" Nope.. The will rescue a person trapped in the fire.. If your burning home is in danger of setting your neighbors home on fire who did pay his per year amount.. They will hose down the neighbors house and keep it from burning.. Your house.. Bye.. Bye.. How said but the town with the fire Department paid for their infrastructure in taxes the neighboring town, just wanted free service.. Now.. If we could just let the poor and "have the money but don't want to pay" people die off, no problem.. Unfortunately we choose to care about them, and want them not to die on the doorstep of our hospitals.. Looks bad for the hospital, looks bad for the country.. So we have made it mandatory that hospitals give medical care to those who require it and have no way to pay.. That has now become part of our infrastructure.. But we have not set up a way to pay for that infrastructure.. That has to be dealt with. Few states were doing it, and they had no intention of ever addressing the problem.. So due to their inactivity.. You got the Federal Government doing what they did not do.. Is ObamaCare good? I don't know.. I tend to see holes in it, needs some more work I think.. But, it is a start, and a start is needed, because we cannot continue to live with a mandated infrastructure which is unfairly being paid for by only those willing to buy insurance, or lucky enough to be employed in a company giving them a benefit of health insurance..
  16. Did not see RoadKills upset over my comment.. Sorry Roadkill, the comment was not for you, or really for anyone doing anything because they are unaware of the rules. If you do have something that does exempt you.. Well then you can't be dishonest or untrustworthy.. Because you are just fine in your practice. If what Beavah states makes your case more complex then you thought, and you are indeed not doing things right.. Well you still are not dishonest or untrustworthy, because you thought you were just fine.. It only becomes dishonest & untrustworthy if you have been told, (and since yours is more complex an issue, then told may need some other verification..) You find out you are not doing things correctly.. And you do them anyway. For most of us with non-profit orgs as our CO's the rule is pretty cut and dried.. So after being told, proceed as your conscious dictates.
  17. When you say powerpoint that got a giggle.. one of the scouts from our troop did the powerpoint thing for the project review.. The board who are the same guys (with some varing as they normally run two split boards & have guests and visitors on the board).. They sat through and approved the project just fine, but asked the kid to go low tech when he came for his EBOR.. Maybe good old boys.. More like just older gentlemen, but they prefer the posterboard with a few pictures glued to it, and the workbook.. If the kid comes without posterboard oh.. well.. If they only get one copy of the workbook.. oh well.. The kid gets their full attention anyway.. I think the posterboards & such grow out of a few kids doing it. I can see some troops giving the EBOR more clout if you are a more established troop.. I can see other troops that just survive not doing well at all.. Right now I can think of the one scout I worked with on his final merit badges before turning 18 so he just got his Eagle under the wire.. The troop is a mess! You look at this great scout, you look at the troop and think "How did this troop produce this scout?".. Well the troop was good years back when he got started, by the time they went downhill, the scout was in OA and got most of his adventure scouting in OA, while leadership was in the troop being the only older scout helping 11-13 year olds.. Ask him if he would have wanted his EBOR at unit level.. No Way.. Our old Troop is also spitting out its last round of scouts from an era of when it was good.. Scouts don't even want the current SM to do anything at their Eagle Court they keep calling back old SM's even though it is now 4 years into this guy being SM.. Do they want this current troops leaders to do their Eagle Board.. No.. Some troops probably can do an EBOR just fine. I am sure yours is one of them Beavah.. Sadly though there are alot of dysfunctional troops that still produce deserving Eagles who deserve a well run EBOR..
  18. Have yet to see a unit EBOR, but I like our District EBORs.. Some of it now is because my husband/son enjoy being part of the District EBORs, but even when in the troop.. The boys felt it was something special and rose to the occasion, being well prepared with poster boards with pictures and a great presentation. Had it been the typical unit EBOR they would have just winged it preping for nothing.. The boys also have this great elated feeling of accomplishment when returning from the board feeling they did a wonderful job... Big difference between that and a small smile when passing the unit BOR as by the 2nd or 3rd rank they have figured out is basically a rubber stamp (or at least it takes a serious melt down to not get).. I feel a little better there is someone from the District committee there, but it sounds like with some of you it doesn't have to be a person from advancement, it can just be someone with a District title who knows nothing about the Eagle board, which means just another warm body. I am wondering how long some of you have had unit EBORs.. Is it a new progression? Or is it just the preference of the Council or District how their EBORs are run.. Like Eagle92 got his Eagle in the year 1992.. So his area has had unit EBORs for about 20 years or more.. Just hoping our little neck of the woods gets to stay the way it is, and doesn't get hit with this change.
  19. Congradulations.. You can now do the ticket dance.. (goes something like the chicken dance, but you throw tickets out like little flying chicken feathers) (actually just joking, anti-Woodbadgers hate our singing, they will not be too found of our dancing.) Does not have to be a big bash, something smaller with just your unit. sounds like you are in sea scouts so don't know what, but I know some at troop level just do it at troop level.. COH or during summer camp..
  20. Sorry.. I would imagine you are right.. I googled their Acronym as I didn't want to keep calling it the Boy Scouts of England.. So is that the acrymn they use? WOSM ?.. Well BBS made more sense "British Boy Scouts"... So they would win the acronym game in my book.
  21. For me, I think I am more wishy-washy about the atheist debate.. Open minded, but not yet sold on it. Probably would be more for it, if I felt they could come in and respect other units having the right to keep their religious ideas active in their mission whether it be a small role of just the oath or a large role as in an LDS unit.. Most I believe would be respectful, but unfortunately their handful who would not are the loudest, and cause all the news.. But I think that slight difference between an agnostic (I don't know if I believe or not.. Or I think there may be something but have no clue what..) Is so close to an atheist of not believing. It is really rediculous to allow one group in and not the other.
  22. Know your market. Our troop tried it.. It was a bust as the school athletics had the market all sewn up years before we tried.
  23. Merlin - when I said that, I was not talking about the schools, or the atheists. Simply the homosexual rule that was added in 1990, that then became a polarized topic which they are now moving to the loosing side of as it moves out of 50/50 and into equal rights for.. Had they not created the rule, left it as a local option, they would not have to find a way to back away from the rule now.. The conservatives would have only had control over their patch of grass. The Liberals would have had control of theirs.. All would have been happy.. Later on in a different post I stated that the homosexual rule probably would not have saved the schools from removing support due to the atheist issue. The atheist issue as I stated will be a more difficult issue to find a happy medium for, I would be really surprised if both rules were removed at the same time.. The Atheist rule has been in effect longer and will have a harder time being removed.
  24. Basement - That is even more over-the-top then the checking of MBC lists.. So what happens if the MBC can no longer be reached.. Moved out or passed away?? Kid has to redo the MB? I personally can't remember all the scouts I worked with, especially if you start going 6 years back. Did I work with him.. Hmm.. maybe.. was that for family life -or- communications I worked with him on..? One of my sons & his friend worked with someone on Orienteering who was in early stages of alzheimers (or something with similar symptoms.).. Sons friend got home and washed the blue card.. Called the MBC, who had a hard time remembering the scout he worked with 3 days back.. Until the scout related a hystarical story of my son doing something really funny.. The MBC broke out in laughter "Oh, yes, I remember you now..". Call this MBC after 3 years, he would not remember this scout even with relating the funny story.
  25. Doing nothing would have been not making up this ridiculous rule in the 1990's.. Doing nothing, means continual drops in numbers as the country goes to 80% being afraid on homosexuals in the 1990 to today it being 50/50, to tomorrow it swinging to 80% in favor of equal rights.. Even Republican politician are starting to acknowledge they picked the wrong side of the fight, some have voiced it, others don't want to discuss the issue. It may not have helped us keep the public school support as that is due to denying atheist also.. But, it sure did nothing to help it. Worry about your own church, not the other denomination down the street.. Worry about your own scout unit, not the scout unit down the street.. As I stated We will only loose those who have to feel they have full control over the whole BSA program (rather then simply concentrating on their own program).(This message has been edited by moosetracker)
