  1. Well, I feel silly.. I wasn't talking to you Basement.. There was another post by someone who basically stated that the first news article was as ambigous as the website, and did not show they were doing anything different then National.. Now that post is just totally gone.. (a moderators post?.. They have done that before, posted, then deleted and my return post looks odd responding to no one.) Your fine Basement..
  2. OK.. Here is another article. http://invergroveheights.patch.com/articles/poll-should-the-mn-boy-scouts-change-its-position-on-including-gay-members
  3. Welcome! Your council does things a wee bit different. Usually you don't start Scouting as a Unit Commissioner. Were you in Scouting before, and got called back with the UC position. It is just that usually the UC is someone that the unit leaders go to with questions they are unsure about, so alot of UC's are people whose children have aged out of scouting, or at least active leaders with a few years in scouting and know their way around.
  4. I think you are being selectivly blind, to what you don't want to see.. They are going to word it so it is not crude. So don't expect to see something so blunt.. The statement I see that they are talking about adults and not youth is the following.. York said that the Twin Cities-based Scout council, one of the nation's largest, follow a 12-year-old "will continue to inclusive leadership selection" practice So you can pretend that leadership is only that a gay youth scout could be SPL.. The next paragraph: When asked how they could differ from the national policy, York said that it had "worked for us." So what big thing are they differing form national in policy with, if they are not differing in policy? But, being selectivly blind is good, it means some of the units in your area may be able to slide they homosexual adult leader under your nose..
  5. Don't know of the rule in writing, I know our District & council follows it.. If a district event says not to wear your uniform for a district/council social event, you know that most likely have alcohol involved.
  6. NJCub scouter see my message just above yours, we must have crossed post. The news article is 100 specific they will all the CO's to choose openly gay leaders.
  7. NealOnWheels - don't believe Fehler who comes from that council either? How about the news article on the subject.. (You may need to close an ad that pops up before the article.) http://m.startribune.com/?id=162817346 Green with envy I am.. Unfortunately our Council isn't brave, but I wonder if the Minute Man council and the one in Philadelphia can follow their winning formula and try again.. 12 years, I wonder if part of their success was they challenged it and one, That was before any law suits.. Before they put on this bravado front of "We will do what we want.. To H__L with all of you".. Now other defecting councils would be a sign of weakness. (This message has been edited by moosetracker)
  8. OK.. Did some investigation. You are right, numbers are increasing due to immigrants, who I suppose would tend to be more conservative until their youth get zapped by the American culture.
  9. I thought the RC church was currently hard pressed to find anyone who wanted to be a priest or a nun? The majority of them are aging out, and not enough to replace them..
  10. So Fehler, with local options for inclusion of homosexuals are there any dooms day happening that our conservative group are predicting? Obviously you membership is up.. Obviously if your CO is a Catholic church, the Catholics are not pulling out. What about a whole flock of sissy boys invading your troop with gold lemay outfits, limp wrists and Yoohoo calls? Or maybe they don't invade your troop but formed a troop of their own that you had to camp next to this summer.. Flirting with your scouts every chance they got? How many of your youth are molested at every troop meeting and every camporee? I am sure some of the reason your council has more acceptance as it in in the Northern part of the country.. I have been wondering if we would have had this ban on homosexuals had BSA's home office stayed in New York, rather then moving down to Texas. I also wonder of those who post of a doomsday, how many are from the south.. Because I just don't see the issue being from the north.. Maybe a better indicator of where in the country the predicted doomsdays will happen is if your State is primarily Republican, Democratic or independent.
  11. FScouter - What they sounds like local option.. They state they are inclusive for a list of things. In that list is sexual orientation, but they also stress they leave it up to the CO to decide who will make good leaders. There was a link posted a few days back, in one of the umpteen gay threads going around a news artical where Northern Star restated it's inclusive practice will continue even though National had stated it would stay discriminatory.
  12. I could see the split like Life Long Learning for them.. LDS rarely does go to roundtables or camporees. They choose to group all their units together and go to summer camp as a block, and just take the camp over for a week so they aren't with other types of units.. They really don't even want to do training with other types of units.. Then they do have their own different ways of running the program.. If it happened I don't think the LDS or the rest of the units would notice any difference at all.. I did want to add on to this reflexion, because it was not stated, before.. I am not for pushing LDS to their own group.. I am just stating, that I can see this as a solution when the day comes (which I am confident it will.) when the homosexual ban it removed and LDS still can not accept the solution of a local option.. This is simply a way to share BSA while the LDS still feels in control of their world.. Who knows the Catholics and others who agree with their policy may join the other group.. On the other hand, I still prefer local option. This solution kindof has a feel of the North & South in the civil war.. Grant it, we would all be happy.. But, seperations in ideas from unit to unit is more together then total devision.. I guess when the day comes we will see what happens.. LDS leaves, LDS splits into their own branch, LDS learns to accept local option.(This message has been edited by moosetracker)
  13. scoutingAgain - Did you post in the right thread?.. Seems your last post is for the thread about John McCain calling his fellow Republican nutcases to task..
  14. Yeah, between trainers being on summer break, and Adult volunteers being on summer break, unless the training is offered by camp staff at summer camp, it is a headache for a District trainer to pull the staff together and then no one signs up..
  15. There you go, until 1987 we could have protested the actions of the AMA.
  16. Lisabob - The article Seattle pointed us to in the 13th page Of "BSA says no to gays".. Which totally proves no committee or reseach was done, but definately points out, why they had to lie and say they did a board to review the question answers the question why BSA, did things the wrong way.. The petition was stratigically presented where the BSA scouting bylaws said they had to a committee for review.. Scoutings voting members may submit resolutions, which represent that individuals personal viewpoint, for consideration at the national annual business meeting. As directed by its bylaws, on May 31, the BSA assigned the resolution to a committee that will consider the resolution and present a report to the National Executive Board. That was such an enlightening article.. Thanks SP.. So enlightening, I will repost the link here. http://www.scouting.org/media/PressReleases/2012/20120607.aspx That is probably why this review to this patition was originally stated to be scheduled in May 2013 (after a year of reseach).. I assume that since they feared the time lapse of the year made them feel weak, they came up with a fictional review board that just concluded their findings after a 2 year study.. Had this committee been going on, they would have stated they already had a committee reviewing the policy and had started the task 2 years back, and they would use the soon to be released conclusion when they concluded.. 17. I know I am posting here, but if you look at this poster. It is their first post. It has nothing to do with Scouting. This is a news briefing, no human interaction. It ends with "Medical Malpractice Law News Brought To You By So I am betting this poster is about as human as our "Embrodery" friend. (This message has been edited by a staff member.)
  18. The ABA allows only lawyers to join, the AMA is the same for physicians, and most churches ask one to agree to a set of beliefs. I guess I don't see the correlation here.. Church is the main problem with creating discrimination, and due to church & state mostly they are left to their own devices, unless they try to force their beliefs on people outside their faith. Normally they are allowed to change through civil war, as their members start seeing the inconsistencies of their church with the world, or they can become totally different, like the Amish or Orthodox Jews. But not all of us want to live the life of the Amish or Orthodox Jews and to their credit they don't try to force us to. When ABA is about Lawyers, except they ban the ones who live in Chicago, or the ambulance chaser lawyers.. Then they can be compared to the BSA. When AMA is about Doctors, except for plastic surgeons.. Then they can be compared to the BSA..
  19. Personal, but I like it. Cub Scouts, I can see it being a slightly easier on the little ones to learn, but not that much was cut out and it was way to close to BS oath, just made us Boy Scouters stumble as we got into it and then autopilot took over and all of a sudden we a spouting stuff the rest of the group are not.. Venturing - Way too long, and complex.. Who ever thought that one up had diarrhea of the mouth that day. When I was a troop guide for Woodbadge, I had to apologize for not learning it, I just couldn't.. I was in good company, non of my other TGs had learned it, nor the Course director. The Course Director and one of the TGs had been Crew Advisors for years.. They said their crews couldnt learn it either.. We all stood up their with cheat sheets and read the oath.
  20. the clip is a little old, but they pointed to something in writing on the BSA website about being anti-homosexuals. From the thread on if there is anything in writing, did anyone find that? That writting also stated something more then being against homosexuals who are openly homosexual, but "known" homosexuals, so they can be very quiet and try to keep it confidential, but if you stumble upon the information (say you see them in a restraunt holding hands with their significant other on "date night") then you are suppose to kick them out, or call in the coucils gay-bash squad to do it for you.. Which I knew they practiced, but never saw in the verbal statement they give the press every time the need to respond after a night of gay-bashing.. So that was new to me. Otherwise, my observation was that it was interesting and accurate.. Not that it was enlightening..
  21. Thanks C.C. although the hosts kind of rub you the wrong way, they were pretty crass. The info in between their parts, was interesting and accurate..
  22. Well, as I said, I know they are around here as two of our boys went into it. I think different ones to. I believe one was more for police the other is medical of some sort.. Not sure though one was over 5 years back and I know he was going into college for law-enforcement, so with him I assume.. The other one is more recent, and I met some of the people in his new group and asked if they might be avaliable to be called if we need someone to do our IOLS first aide skills.
  23. I don't know how true it is, or even who I heard it from.. But, I did hear the Explorer posts were moved to learning for life to get them away from the whole quagmire of the discriminatory policies. Because they are out of the BSA framework, we now see little of them to know how well they are doing, if BSA is even spending anytime promoting and improving their program, if they are it is with a whole different set of council volunteers.. Since they separated, we have had two boys move to Explorer programs, both really seemed to enjoy the program they got.
  24. True twoCub, but that is part of Advancement (which means it will hook a debate), and if it is the one I am thinking about there was some juicy story going on with it, that got people either rooting for the scout, or or arguing we are getting a one sided story and then finding possibilities why the Adult leaders might be in the right.. Also I believe the OP, didn't state a case and dash off, but came back to the post and would stir the pot with updates all the time. I stated uniforms, advancements and juicy or scandalous stories, but I will admidt it is just a quick list, where I am sure there are many other things other people can add to the list with.. (ex.. new policies that are either limiting us more, or changing what we know and love will get long threads on for example our new little red wagon age safety policy..)
