Giving up Freedom without a fight
moosetracker replied to Basementdweller's topic in Issues & Politics
That is the great thing, GOP tried to discourage voters because they figured noone would wait for riduculous hours in lines. Backfired, because they made voters angry. Florida was the worst backfiring because after coming up with a 9 page ballot in order to slow down voting, they were stuck trying to run them through the scanning machines, for days & days & days after the election.. Lets see who is crying "Fowl" of trying to Filibuster a proposal that will soon go through Congress to fix this problem.. I bet it will not be the Democrat Congressmen. Eagle732, Democratic Governments did not try to suppress voters either Democrat or Republican, therefore your voting rights (even if voting Republican) was protected. I also had no problem being in a rural area, which was more Republican then Democrat and having a mixed government, although other things were attempted.. So cry me a river.. Anyway the comment was not to sink us into an arguement to which Republicans choose to be blind over and regardless of the mass amount of proof will deny.. It was to celebrate those Americans who did not give up without a fight. If you were someone who stood in a long line on election day, you have my admiration and thanks! -
Giving up Freedom without a fight

What the one sighted, just standing on the sideline? They have the right to vote also.. From the video, he was anything but scary, but maybe it is just the sighting of a black person that scares you? No, the one black panther standing peacefully on the sidewalk near a voting place was not the cause of the 8 to 12 hour lines every urban polling place (which tend to vote Democrat) in Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Utah & Pennsylvania.. Try again. -
Giving up Freedom without a fight

I guess I have mixed feeling about all the tracking. Remember it was legislated and started under Bush, but Obama has continued and raised them. So the tracking is from both parties. Right now you have those who are irked by the tracking and state it is a loss of freedom, but I believe the same people would be the most vocal if another 9/11 attack occured in demanding answers as to why the Government did not know and stop the attack before it occured. Would be demanding compensation for the victims, and if under a Democratic President would probably demand impeachment. If we were to return to a "No tracking" rule our society would also have to understand they can not blame government for any terroist attacks that occur.. Goverment would need to be considered blameless.. I understand some people feeling the tracking as a loss of freedom. Personally if they want to track my email or track my car have at it. They will be bored.. I'm not planning to murder anyone, rob any banks or plan a terrorist attack.. If I mistakenly hit someone with my car, I will wait for emergancy help rather then do a hit and run. No internet porn, no wild extra-marital affair over the internet.. Perhaps the government might like to read my xmas wish list I emailed off to my family and pick me out a nice gift from it, after all I still have not recieved my promised Obama gift.. Uncle Sam Santa, ho, ho, ho.. I remember my Brother-in-law griping over the EZ pass being a way to track people on the roadways.. It was true, when a women went missing the found her car entered the EZ pass system at one place and never exited.. Found her car in the woods where it had crashed and was out of sight of the vehicals on the road. I think they saved her life with it.. So there are some positives with this tracking. It is amazing what terrorist pre-planning plots have been broken up with it. But, I think I would be happy with society not demanding this type of superhuman ability from the government, and for the tracking to stop, simply because there will come a time that the terrorist will out smart us. It will only take one time for holy hell to break out because the government wasn't superhuman. Anyway America can't have it both ways ultra protection from the government against terrorists while doing absolutely no tracking to accomplish this feat. As for "Giving up freedom without a fight". I just recently saw the signs of many Americans fighting for their freedoms that warmed my heart.. All those voters who came out and stood in those long voting lines for 8 to 12 hours.. It was a protest against a group of people trying to suppress their voting rights.. I really felt the suppression was going to work, people would be discouraged to vote.. When I saw it, it was like those old western movies where the cowering town taken over by the outlaws, suddenly as a group came out of their homes onto the street to overpower in numbers the bad guys.. I was so proud of the American people.. You have seen it in smaller number also, like when the Latinos presented Obama with a way to pass a version of the Dream Act by Executive Order, which Obama carried out for them. Michigan has twice optain truck loads of signatures on a petition which caused their Govenor to backtrack on policies he was implementing.. Anyway if you look for them you can find people who are allowing the system to roll over them, and do not stand up against it. Or, you can look and find people who will stand up in protest and actually win the war against government. The glass is half full, it is how you choose to look at it. -
Why is it wrong AZMike.. Don't know if the Sun God moving to "Son of God" is accurate, but I also have been told from religion historians that December 25th is not the true birthdate of christ, it was a date for a Pagan holiday, along with many christmas traditions being from pagan celebration traditions.. When Christians attempted to spread Christianity to pagan communities they altered things to allow Pagan communities to feel comfortable.. But, here is a link giving 2 different ideas.. The first talking about the popular belief of the blending of pagan traditions, and an different belief that Christ was conceived on the same day of the year which he died, so therefore they put Christmas on a Date 9 months after conception.. http://www.bib-arch.org/e-features/christmas.asp Is this the one you believe, or do you have a different theory then that?
-
Don't know how original these ideas are but here is some I did over the years. Stocking stuffers - hand warmer packs, (Eastern Mountain had ideas over the years like) animal track cards, straps (to tie to backpacks), stuff sacks, pocket knifes Larger gifts have been normal stuff like sleeping bags, backpack tents, backpack stoves, water purifiers

Because the ancient and honored tradition of the Democrats was only their tradition until the people of the parties changed parties, and the Republican party moved to be predomantly a Southern party that was the party with white supremacy, and the Democrats went from being the Southern party to the Northern party.. This may seem like a strange concept to you, but if the people change party affilitions the bad habits of the people go with the people. If you had two houses on a street, and one had a normal family living in it, while the other house is a known for loud parties, drugs sex and rock and roll.. If for some reason those people buy each others houses and move into each others houses, you are silly to still consider the original house to be the house of ill repute, when for the next 20 years after the switch-a-roo it is the other house that is now carrying on the loud parties, drug, sex and rock and roll by the same people who were carrying on in the other house before the move.. While the old house is now quiet and well kept, by it's new tenants.. Around the time of JFK, when he (as the Democratic President) became the champion for civil rights for the blacks, this caused the rift.. Nixon (Republican) and Watergate, was a strike against Republicans being so upstanding, but I think Regan as the Republican candidate finalized the rift by using the southern strategy of Welfare Queens, as well as other bells and whistles to get the whites to resent blacks and other poors.. From then on the change was permenant, Republicans (the party that was Lincolns and started out in the North) becames the party of the south.. And the Democrats (the party that was where the KKK was known to exists moved South).. So although the people did not change houses, the houses basically got up and moved to the opposite sides of the street, while the people remained where they were and just took up residence in the house that was on their plot of land. Carrying on in the fashion that they had been carrying on before the houses up and moved. So pointing to the sins of the Democrats before and even into the JFK presidential campaign is really a laugh.. Those sins belong to the people of the party, not to the party.. And all those people are now Republicans.(This message has been edited by moosetracker)

Although the interfaith service is part of the Woodbadge program, what the service program is on is not scripted.. The hymns, prayers and message are all created by one of the senior staff members. For us it normally goes to the ASM of Troop Guides, but that might be different for other councils program.

Yes, moosetracker is female.. Since your science, means you cant believe your lying eyes, I am quite comfortable with my science which is proved out week to week in various countries all over the world.. Not sure if Sandy is a 100 year storm (for that area) or not.. If you take each disaster of the world, as a single issue in its own separate vacuum, rather than look at the up-tick of the amount of disasters all over the world as being more often and more serious and more fatal and destructive.. Icebergs are thawing, that is a fact.. Don't know if Polar bears will become extinct, I never said they were they are simply currently being affected by it.. Definitely on a decline, but there are other factors besides Global Warming for that.. Polar bears normal hunting and migratory paths are disturbed because of it.. But, they are finding Polar Bears are adapting in order to survive, like eating goose eggs because the melting of the icebergs give them shorter hunting periods for their normal diet of seals. There is also studies that they evolved from the brown bear, so they have the capability to evolve for changing climates.. If all else fails there is always climate controlled environments at a zoo. Here is something, that may sound a little Republican. Although I feel for the victims in all these disasters, with the increase of disasters in the last 10 years, our country is spending way to much paying out disaster relief.. We do need to be front and center to help protect life during the emergency, rebuild the infrastructure of the community, look into ways we can shore up the barrier to protect against future disasters etc.. But at some point in time I think our country does have to draw a line in the sand as to what we will pay out for personal property damage.. Either the people insure against it or they dont, especially those who live near the coastline, or in places known for out of control blazes, earthquakes, tornadoes etc.. Once Republicans returns to fiscal conservatism, and throws off this religious social & non-scientific bent, as well as dislike for the majority of the population.. I may consider them viable again. There are some voices that sound reasonable, it is just how long it will take for them to get through to the rest of the base party.

Well it's the tea-party "religious" right that are making a mockery out of the Science committee.. Attempting to create or ignore based on their biblical views.. Couldn't find the Morning Joe show, but here is the research they were discussing. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/11/19/world-bank-warns-climate-change/1715165/ All I am saying with the religious making the laws about morality, is that the majority of the US population is not in agreement.. You can do things like that in the southern states if you wish, until your children grow up and out-vote these laws, but the Nation as a whole is in disagreement with it, and it showed in this past election. From this point forward, I doubt you will see a statewide win on barring same-sex marriage except for in your Republican leaning states.. Here in NH, we couldn't vote on same-sex marriage as it isn't our policy for the electorite to vote on issues. But, 2 years ago we voted in Republicans, who ran on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs.. They went in and tried to enforce these biblical laws, with no thought to Jobs, Jobs, Jobs.. Thank goodness our Democratic Governor ruled by veto.. 2 years later in this election the state house went very blue, as we voted their butts out of office.. Watch 2 years from now, I feel those Republican Governors voted in 2 years back to the swing states (Ohio, Florida, Virginia etc..) will also be getting kicked out.. The state has had enough of their government and are angry enough to turn out.. Even in a mid term election.. No one in Democratic states or swing states are appreciating your Biblical social laws..

I can out link you.. http://www.people-press.org/2012/10/15/more-say-there-is-solid-evidence-of-global-warming/ http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/news/20120806/ http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2012/07/28/602151/bombshell-koch-funded-study-finds-global-warming-is-real-on-the-high-end-and-essentially-all-due-to-carbon-pollution/?mobile=nc http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/ http://www.sampler.isr.umich.edu/2012/research/global-warming-and-the-global-economic-growth/ http://www.ucsusa.org/news/press_release/new-research-global-warming-0470.html I will look for a video I watched just the other day on global warming, it states our tempatures are rising faster then they were projecting.. Sort of cancels out your article that says it isn't.. Was on Morning Joe, I will post it when I find it. Better yet, ask the victims from hurrican Sandy, The farmers whose crops died in this years draught, and the polar bears who are loosing the polar ice caps.. In other words get your nose out of the bible, and stick it out the window.. Eagledad - you took my words out of context.. I said And we have already debated and condemned the biblic views on sexual morality.. We have had many a debate on this forum.. Need more? The question was why shouldn't we accept to be dictated to by outdated biblical laws.. I simply answered the question.. Also we have polls showing that the population is becoming more & more acceptable to gay marriage, with 3 recent elections in it's favor, plus a few gay people voted into office.. So I would say all that also is a victory as to why we shouldn't be forced to live under laws the majority of people now do not accept. (This message has been edited by moosetracker)

I was wondering if safty issues factored in, whether it be at state or Federal.. That would be a policy beyond their control.. I can't see though the deaf community going after them for that, if it was the case. I guess the question is, if they would (or have) hired deaf in other fields, like office work. AZMike - You pick very strange examples: "well, religious views are acceptable in the public sphere if it concerns the need to preserve the earth's resources, or to treat immigrants humanely, but not if it concerns sexual morality"? The Republicans trying to throw the bible into preserving the earths's resources is the problem, they try to use it to ignore global warming, and those the republicans have chosen to be on the science committee, have all stated ridiculous things that make them walking jokes. Treat immigrants humanely? REALLY?? We just went thought the election process, it was very apparent who was disrespectful of the immigrants.. If your treatment of them came from more bible teachings, count me out! And we have already debated and condemned the biblic views on sexual morality, that make the religious very intolerant, outdated and uninformed.. It can not accept anything that does not resemble a 1950 sitcom.. (This message has been edited by moosetracker)

OK, I'll change it to the ®Scoutmaster asks all scouts who are not "American" to self-deport to programs other then BSA, While calling the IH head un-American, and not worthy of his office because the birth certificate he showed you must be a fake, he needs to come up with "other" documentation for proof (meanwhile years back they were perfectly fine with an ethnically "acceptable" candidate, who was born in Mexico, while his American father permenantly was raised and lived there..) And questions why there are so many blacks at summer camp this year, when you know that there aren't very many blacks in BSA. Where did they come from? Where they really registered scouts?.. We must look into this.. But, your 47% comment is good too, only strangly that 47% is a comment aimed at the Scoutmasters "prefered" scouts, perhaps we can have it hit the scouts that worked out a deal with the troop that if they volunteered at the troops fundraisers, their dues would then be covered by the fundraisers proceeds P.S. I think the raising of the birther "joke" was the start of the race card.(This message has been edited by moosetracker)

Ha, Ha, Ha! Just remember the charging on the credit card was Bush.. So the Republican Scoutmaster is the one to get rid of all revenue dues, popcorn, other fundraisers.. Then hand out money on a credit card to your own family businesses and crony friends, while telling everyone that spending for replacing tents or camp stoves were unnecessary expenses, that everyone is on their own to purchase.. Make up lies and conspiracies about other troops in the area so that the members of your troop see them as the enemy and start feuds and wars with them.. Make sure that anyone who thinks about joining the troop that isnt a white American is made to feel unwelcomed by throwing insults at them.. Making sure your choice of SPL is rigged, by telling scouts that will vote for the SPL you dont want that the troop meeting is canceled on the night of the election and you will hold the election at the next troop meeting, meanwhile you hold your troop meeting with the scouts who will vote for your guy.. Then when the boys dont run things the way you want, you call an emergency manager law, and take over the running of the troop your way.. Or add new Troop rules and Laws so that they are forced to do things YOUR way. Then when the troop dares to vote you out and choose a new scoutmaster, you have a group on the committee pledge to make sure the new scoutmaster fails by keeping the committee arguing about stupid worthless things, and voting down anything that would be of positive benefit to the troop, then blaming the problem on the new scoutmaster as well as making up trumped up conspiracy theroys.. Oh, he talked to Johnnies mother, must be having an affair.. Little Bobbie got a scrape on the last hike, thats because the Scoutmaster couldnt make it and left the event to two of his assistants., Mr. ASM didnt go to this weeks IOLS training, although it was announced several times, it must be the Scoutmasters fault, for not physically going over and hauling his butt out of bed and driving him there...
-
Nope, I belive in change from within.. Leaving would be like moving to Canada, then trying to change the policies in the US.. So I am perfectly happy staying as an inside irritant.
-
So bigbovine, shouldn't you leave your church since the Episcapol Church down the street has homosexual clergymen?.. If not, what would be the problem with your troop not allowing homosexual Scoutleaders, but the troop down the street allowing them..
-
I don't see a strong homosexual unit, in sort of this "power" unit SP is trying to propose in a type of fearmongering of the future.. But, I could see a unit or two ending up heavy with scouts who are homosexual at least until all of society get comfortable with acceptance.. I have heard of a few units heavy with scouts with physical disabilities in the same way.. A unit welcomes a few scouts with disabilities, some other families with children of disabilities hear this unit is welcoming and a positive experience for their son so join. Maybe the original boys of the troop without disabilities stay, or maybe not.. But, new scouts looking for a troop feel out of place and choose a different troop.. The troop is open to everyone, but find themselves as more of a specialty troop.. Sad, but I am sure this sort of sorting happens with black or latino scouts also, where there are communities that have their black troop with a neighboring white troop.. If this happens with homosexual scouts, it is both good and bad in my opinion.. My take is probably not in sync with SP's opinion.. It would still be good as they have a program that lets them to learn self-confidence and belonging.. But, I think if it stays more mixed the kids would benefit from learning to accept each other and learn that they all have much more in common then they do differences..
-
OGE : I got my Eagle in 1969,I was not aware gays could not be in scouts or a scouter back then. Perhaps it was implied but I missed it. That is because in 1969, you could have had a scout leader. The rule was not created until 1990.. Before then we even had an openly Gay person as a scoutmaster and national spokesperson.. All was totally cool.. I forget the name, but he was an actor on the original Startrek. In the past there were many gay Scout leaders, and boys.. No one made a big deal of it. Therefore, we do not have to maintain our principles, we simply need to return back to our principles.. Calico - Don't know if FedEx ever contributed or not.. They simply hold the same rotten principles that UPS does in who they would donate to.. Therefore if they ever did, they now will not.. If they never did, does that make UPS worse because in the past UPS has been generous to scouts, and FedEX is better because they never gave a dime to BSA, ever?? Or are they both just rotten because today, neither will donate to organizations that are bigoted?
-
JoeBob - In other words UPS is more enlightened than the uninformed homophobics who think homosexual is another word for child molester. Before running to FedEx shouldn't you check to make sure their policy isn't inclusive? http://charity.lovetoknow.com/charitable-organizations/fedex-charitable-giving Read the last condition: Organizations that apply should demonstrate that they are competent to manage a program with low administrative expenses and that they do not discriminate with regards to who the program will benefit. Soon you'll be living off your own chickens and growing your own corn and living as a hermit due to all companies being PC..

Well, I don't know about a mandate, but more so then when Bush thought he had one.. I would say Democrats are in a stronger position.. You don't know why they voted Democrat, but they didn't vote Democrat because they prefered what the Republicans were offering. I think the big turnout was thanks to the GOP voter suppression that got people mad, and brought people out to vote as a protest to this.. Some on the Republican side think having the majority in the house means they have an equal mandate.. THEY DON'T HAVE A MANDATE (or they have the weaker hand).. Especially when you consider the gerrymandering being the reason some seats were saved, and the fact that many Republicans in order to win had to run by promising to work for compromise, many new Republicans did not sign the Grover Norquist pledge, other returning ones won by stating they would not be tied to the pledge in order to work for compromise.. There is about 20 Repubs in the new Congress not tied to the pledge.. Others are tied, but still hit a tough re-election due to their hard stance in the past 2 years. Don't know about a mandate, but Democrats are in a much stronger position to get the Republicans to work toward a compromise that will force them to accept it will not be 100% their way.. I keep hearing it will probably be close to a 60/40 compromise with Democrats getting it 60% their way.

Well Rachel Maddow is my favorite of the bunch. Since she has the largest rating I know I am not alone on this viewpoint.. But the one I do not care for is Rev Al Sharpton.. Chris falls somewhere in the middle.. I don't excuse him due to fact that the right leaning media makes mistakes far more often.. But, I do give him credit for apologizing in a very sincere way.. As for the comment about the right's mistakes, I think it is more of a "People in glass houses.." comment. The right media is like a feast for political comedians, as well as MSNBC shows, with all the screw-ups they do.. In turn, the Left media may throw out a nugget or two of stupidity for your mal-nourished crowd to feast upon.. How often do they sincerely apologize for their behavior? I have heard some statements of "I was wrong" when their skewed polling was wrong.. But, I don't think I heard any of them apologizing for leading their sheeple astray.. Maybe some thinking it should be fixed to be more accurate next time, while others put blame on Chris Christie, Hurrican Sandy, Romney for not being a true conservative, and Obama for a negative ad campaign that called Romney a poopyhead. (Although it was sited Republican had a higher percentage of a negative ad campaign..) But when some political analyst are starting to point blame at the conservative media putting everyone in a bubble of unreality, they blister and take offense.
-
I am not sure if I heard the original comment by Chris Matthews, either I didn't see it, or since it was during the election marathon I was too tired to notice.. But I did catch his sincere apology for it.. Of course his meaning was taken out of context, he was tired and credited Hurricane Sandy to part of Obama's win, but at the minute was not thinking of the devastation or suffering from it.. I think he gave himself self inflicted penance.. I don't remember if it was a large donation, or service hours in the stricken areas to help out.. Since the media on the right never say ANYTHING stupid.. I guess it is just unfathomable to think anyone would.. It wasn't Chris's best night, I was more taken aback by him ripping Obama's victory speech to shreds as not good enough and not covering things HE thought should have been in it.. Everyone else in left wing media was still celebrating, and on cloud 9.. They all looked at him like he had 3 heads for seeming so ticked off and critical.. He just seemed grumpy and snarly, and totally out of place for being someone who spent months rooting for Obama to win. Let's say Chris has had better nights..(This message has been edited by moosetracker)

Things change over time, but I have been pregnant and never was required to do a transvaginal ultra-sound. There were several ways the pregnancy could be verified without it.. That was 22 years back, but since I see no reason why they would suddenly have a need to force a more invasive way to prove pregnancy, I will take their word that it is invasive and medically unnecessary. Another reason I take believe this is that if it was a required medical procedure, Governor Ultrasound did not have to stick his nose in it, and force it to be done by legislature.. Michigan.. with this link read the story, don't watch the video.. the article I think is a fair analysis of both sides of the arguement.. http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20121106/POLITICS01/211060427 Restricting the rights of others to vote was not just the ID law.. I have written a book on this before in other threads, I do not care to rewrite the book, just say that it is not the ID law per say, it is the way it was rolled out which gave little time or opportunity to obtain one before implementation.. Plus limiting voting hours, making the ballot ridiculously long (8 to 11 pages) limiting voting places, purging voting registration lists without checking, throwing out new registrations.. On & On.. The Results showed up in the long, long lines in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona and elsewhere.. Florida con games backfired to where they couldnt call the Presidential race until Saturday.. Arizona may have called the Presidential race earlier, but they are still counting ballots for a specific county that had a large new registration of people who wanted to throw out their local Republican government.. They are still counting, and the one Republican Senate victory in Arizona, is now in question.. It may flip to the Democrat candidate being the winner when all is counted..
