  1. The government does not tell insurance companies that they need not cover A. B. or C. if they were covered before by insurance companies without government telling them they must cover them, it's insane to say they will not cover them without government telling them they must cover them.. Your groups problem is in what the government says must be covered.. Yes, women too will be able to have health care for female related problems.. How awful..
  2. I had to look up what the game was. From the sounds of it, if the boys are trying to travel without walking on the ground (ie. staying on the paths).. Then one can imagine them climbing all over these formations in an incorrect manner.. Because of this the Scout leaders could see the rock formations as dangerous, but only because they were already violating LNT rules and I would assume the rules of the park.. But that is a bunch of assumtions.. It would be interesting to see if some who were in this State park on this crowded day will speak up about the scouts being in violation of Park rules and LNT while playing this game, and who know doing what else.. They sound more and more like a group of baffoons that had used the name of Scouting to form a fun group that had no interest in doing the Scouting program.
  3. The resolution spells out how the house and SENATE are to meet and negotiate a budget.. The Senate after they passed a budget in May asked over 18 times for the house to sit down so that they could debate the deferences between the two budget plans both the house and the SENATE proprosed.. The House refused because they wanted the shutdown in order to blackmail the government in to doing everything their way rather then negotiating in the approved manner.. They didn't get anywhere and so now they have signed a resolutions that states they will come to the table and negotiate the right way.. Harry Reid does not need to bring anything to the floor for a vote until the negotiations and concessions FROM BOTH PARTIES are made.. Obama really has no need to get involved with this process unless he is needed to calm temper tantrums or needs to way in with the fact that what they are proposing would not get his signature even if it did pass through the Senate..
  4. "If you think it's hard to sign up for a plan--a simple process that thousands of insurance companies have mastered--wait until you try to actually get a claim paid or see your doctor" Again at that stage the government is out of the picture.. Are you saying BlueCross Blue Shield can't a process a person that comes to them through ACA rather then through Mac's greasy spoon?.. Once my employer enrolls me on their company health plan, they are out of the picture, they have no right to know what I go to my doctor about, let alone approve or disapprove of it. Sorry you and jblake shouldn't be so sour and grumpy.. After all your hero Ted Cruz says you acheived an amazing victory.. So drink your flavor-aid and all will be alright.
  5. Well... If more people are insured, you might have more people going to the Doctors rather then dieing in their homes, or waiting for hours in the emergancy rooms.. That might mean when you call your doctor you may not get a next day appointment but they may have to book you out a little.. Poor baby.. Easy way to fix that is accept more people into med school in order to put more doctors in the field. Acctually my DMV doesn't have a long wait, but since you are trying to use this tactic to scare people who have long waits at Emergancy rooms and at Free health clinics, I don't see how this is going to scare them.. Really again it is simply another fear tactic in search of someone stupid enough to buy it.. Sold any bridges lately?
  6. Ahhhh... If someone gets sick, the government is out of the picture.. I don't know if you really believe the Republican scare tactics, or just choose to spread it. The commecials of Uncle Sam in the examination room is pure poppycock. It is up to the insurance companies and hospitals/doctors and you (to pay the deductable, or items not covered by insurance).. For my state the insurance company would be Blue Cross Blue Shield (Wow, yes, a normal insurance company!!).. My state, NH, still has too many republicans in the mix so we didn't organize our own.. Even so, once you use the government web site to enroll, and I would assume or Income State tax forms will change to show you have medical coverage that meets at least the minimum conditions.. Other then that, the government is out of it completely..
  7. I like kDD, had heard about it a couple of weeks ago.. Don't know if I would quite call them sheeple, more like low level informed at least in the area of politics. You really can't herd them if they don't care.. They just pick there head up long enough to hear one sound bite and assume that is what's going on and investigate no further.. Could be good info, could be bad info, but guarenteed not enough info to really know what's going on.. KDD, I like the one about the Women's Suffrage, did they catch many people off guard?
  8. I wonder why there is a wait.. Guy with the keys to the building went on vacation during the shutdown?? Hope you get your call soon NAE.
  9. For Republicans, they can take peace of mind in the fact that all presidential hopefuls who worked in Congress voted against the plan to open the government and raise the debt ceiling.. So they let their party know they could careless about America and only for political idiology.. No bi-partianship for the good of the country for any of them. And they all have great talking points on how this government shutdown was a terrific success, all out victory etc. etc. So of them wins the primary their is video for some negative ad campaigns.. I am sure their will be much more over the next few years as they go about with their campaign of to hell with America in order to rev up the psychos in their base..
  10. Yep.. Now starts the Republican spin, of "We're winning this war!" and promises of continued obstructionism. “Ted Cruz will be the takeaway from the shutdown, and if he becomes the 2016 nominee these events will be the reason,†Steve LaTourette said. Already that seems to be the takeaway among lawmakers who backed Cruz’s Obamacare confrontation. They may not have gotten everything they wanted – actually, anything they wanted – but at least they stood by their principles and energized millions of activists. They call that success. “I don’t know how anything changes between now and when we hit the next debt ceiling,†Congressman Tim Huelskamp of Kansas said. “We are winning the war.†“The establishment in Washington may have won this battle, but I think people are going to see that we’re willing to stand up for them,†Congressman Raul Labrador said at a panel discussion Wednesday. “That’s the story that you’re going to write in November.†So I can see this working for Ted Cruz to win the Republican Presidential Primary.. If you have 5 Republicans in the fight, and 1/3 are anarchists, and after 2 more years of stupidity, 1/3 are so fed up with their party they don't vote in the primary.. He could win.. But then he would need to win the whole country.. Now I am not saying that 2/3 of the Republican party will turn around and vote democrat.. They most likely just won't vote.. The Independents will not vote for him (those who vote will go Democratic or Independent), and then all Dems will be voting Democratic.. 70% of the country was NOT happy with what just took place.. Only 20% were.. You can't win a National election with only 20% of the vote.. Ted Cruz as the Republican candidate means an easy win for whatever Democrat runs be it Hilliary Clinton, Joe Biden or Bozo the clown.. I hate to see 3 more years of this just so Ted Cruz can win the primary, and totally gut the Republican party. I am fine with Republicans either getting their act together and repairing their brand, or dying a slow death, rather then seeing them self implode in the next 3 years.. Here is a study in Narcissism at it's finest.
  11. Wow! Rush said that?!? Are you sure he wasn't talking about the Dems?.. He would say that about the Dems, but his own party?.. Well perhaps he can talk the teaparty into divorcing the Republican party and forming a third party.. Repubs over a few years can get back some respect, but until the teaparty fades out they won't be a majority over the Dems for a while, but they without their teaparty pals, could slowly repair the damage.. Now, Sen. Cruz did what I thought.. It's a victory.. They showed the people will rise up, they showed their muscle, they showed they are on the right path.. Then he put the blame they didn't win this time on his fellow Repub Senators that didn't stand with him.. Well this was a long battle that hurt the American people and hurt our standing globally, helped cement American's view that the governmental system is broken.. In congress no one won, it was a draw, an extension of funding the Government and raising the Debt ceiling until normal negotiation tactics are engaged.. This could have happened Day one if Repubs only voted on the clean CR.. It was a big mess whose end result was exactly what we got.
  12. tee hee hee.. Too true KDD.. I suspect FOX is missing it due to selective vision. I am wondering how Fox, Rush, Ted Cruz and the other whackko birds will try to spin the deal the house and Senate are going to vote on as a victory for Republicans and proves they are on the right course. I heard Ted Cruz has already said he will not filibuster it.. Let's hope so, and also that he is not just say HE will not do it, while he has one of his minions pull the trigger.. That will slow down the Senate vote, but I don't think it will stop it as I do feel there are enough Republicans to get to 60 votes..
  13. The Senate has a new bill worked out by Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell.. this is common sense, so Although it is initiated out of the Senate I think it will have the 60 votes to jump over Ted Cruz's Filibuster, and the Republicans of the house will truly own the fallout of the Nation defaulting on it's debt along with the shut down of the Government if they do not pass it.. The Republicans will have a chance to save face, but really have gained nothing except totally tanking in the polls from taking the country hostage.. If the house rejects it the Republicans will own the fallout of defaulting on our debt and doubly own the government shutdown, and will never crawl out of the hole they put themselves into.. Their party will be toast. Repubs can no longer keep harping on "the President wont negotiate", even though the President said he will but only once they release the hostages.. Because, this bill lays out clearly that both sides will negotiate during the time of the extensions. After that we have two minor changes to the Health Care law, so the Repubs have got something small on Health Care, But since the Democrats got something to, it is not a victory from their hostage taking.. The Repubs get the Budget at the Sequester levels, but Dems get the extension only past the new year (Jan 15 for government spending, Feb 15 for debt limit) so that a) Obamacare is totally enacted when the extension runs out and b) Dems have a chance to get some of the Sequestered items back into the budget during the negotiations (They did not want 6 weeks as it was too short didn't get past the enactment of Obamacare and if negotiations broke down again would put this debacle around the holiday shopping season.. But, 6 months were too long with the budget at Sequester levels.) If the house does not bring it up for a vote, the party of Repubs is a footnote in history, taking the teaparty with them. Just hearing the proposal gives me a confidence that I haven't had until now, that there is a way out.. At least until January & February.. Now everyone can go back to JoeBob's silly little rant of although the Repubs shut down the government, how dare the Democrats not let the Repubs pick and choose what parts of government the Repubs want to pay for so that they can just hold hostage the parts of Government that the Democrats care about.
  14. I heard quite a few days ago that this was the case, but did not know if this was rumor or not, as the Democrats were not going to the airwaves with it.. Perhaps they needed to bring it to the floor and challenge it like this before they could start publically complaining about it?.. Expect it to get a lot of airtime during next years election cycle..
  15. Oh I know.. Wearing a helmet when riding a bike isn't solely a BSA rule either.. The Let's move campaign is not BSA either.. I also understand why the rule was made thinking both as vehicles. We have had people arrested for peddling a bike while intoxicated.. It just is not safe for the biker is all, seriously puts them in danger.
  16. Although I dislike the helmet rule, as I grew up without it my son was fine with it having grown up with it.. But, what I hated was the rule to ride with traffic.. I always argued the rule and taught my son bad habits.. Sorry, I grew up where there was no rule and so my mother taught me to face the traffic and I had a friend killed shortly after they started pushing this rule, because she followed it and rode with traffic and never saw the car behind her that mowed her and her bike down.. Yeah at intersections and driveways, you have to take precautions because driver may not look for you.. But, I prefer being in control of my safety then handing the control over the unknown driver in the cars.
  17. Pretty goofy.. I too have never heard of a having to wear a helmet to do a handstand.. What is dangerous with a cannon ball?.. I always thought of it as the safest dive, as you are not going head first where there may not be enough depth to the water, and it's hard to do a bellyflop while tucked into a ball.. I like the looks of the stamps too.. Of course blue is my favorite color.
  18. KDD is correct, with the do different things, but when he started with "Territory and turf, total BS." I thought he was headed down a different path.. Nothing says you can't take the kids and sell door to door in more affluent areas, the parts that can afford the overpriced stuff..
  19. jptexas - no on is personally beating up on you. Others have stated they also give snacks (healthy or otherwise),, So far I think the opinion about snacks is evenly divided.. Maybe 3/4 are with you for if you are going to serve something it should be healthy. But I don't think anyone is being personally attacked, just a difference of opinion is all.. Sounds like you ran a great den meeting, but some people in your shoes would serve snacks and some wouldn't for various reasons.. Simple as that.
  20. True, I would prefer to see our dens trying to outdo each other in fun and learning and growth etc.. Then to outdo each other with snacks served.
  21. True we do live in different areas.. And different circumstances maybe, like the pack doesn't have much in it's account anyway.. And I personally am feeling pinched by this recession.. So those two taps for us would be dry as a bone..
  22. I can see the point of providing (or having parents provide) something if it is directly after school. Kids have been going for a while without any food.. Of course this is thinking back to my school years where after lunchtime, you were in class with nothing extra to eat until school ended.. Now if your school is calling hourly snack breaks... WELL. Phoohey.. But yes when son was in an after school program, there was snack.. Later when he came home before we got out of work, my kitchen always showed evidence of a self made snack. Basement, I agree, they got way too greedy.. So after that it's feed your kid something he will eat.. But, honestly I guess I am mean, because that would have been my first choice rather then buying everyone hotdogs.. Talking to parents to make sure starving Johnny ate something before he came, so his hunger pangs were not a distraction on the group activity.. I am just heartless.
  23. We had things like blue & gold dinners, For a pinewood Derby which usually ran several hours we would sell refreshments (sort of like a fundraiser Bake Sale..).. Of course a day long BS troop event had lunch if not meals necessary for weekend trip.. .In our last troop, traditional was the Last meeting before summer they either brought in fixings for ice cream Sundays, or took a hike from the church to an ice cream Shoppe for it..Eagle Courts were always with Food.. Sometimes (not always) might have something at a Court of Honor.. Never though for you weekly normal Troop meetings, Pack meetings or Den meetings. So my son went through in the 90's & 00's but you had this feeling it was expected since the '70's.. Interesting.. Perhaps it was the Pack and 3 different troops that we joined?? I am interested to see some other opinions, to see what other troops & packs think..
  24. So my son is 23.. I'm not a parent of this generation, I admit I am getting old, and this is a "Back in my day" complaint.. But I just don't get the milk/juice & Cookie/snack thing having to be offered for a 1 to 1.5 hour activity.. It was just unheard of when my son went through scouting. Since I UC a pack, I don't really didn't get involved except to offer an opinion, then not press the issue when they choice to ignore it.. I was shocked when we ran our recruitment night for the pack this past month and the DE who came to help out announced to all the new parents and scouts the Pack meeting and Den meetings would be serving refreshments without ever checking with the Pack to see if they did do that. I didn't need to correct him, because they did.. But I was shocked it was just a no-brainer given that he felt perfectly comfortable stating the Packs and Dens would of course be doing this.. Being a Lopsided Pack (lots of tigers & Wolves).. This recruitment night we got a sprinkle of Bears and Webelos.. I offered to work with them in their first few meetings until the parents learn how to run a Den meeting.. I am thinking not to serve the milk and cookies, and telling them they can if they choose to, but I don't think it is necessary.. So am I way out of touch with the new way to raise kids?? Can kids not survive today without out some sort of snack every hour on the hour??.. Is this mentality starting to move into the troop level?? If I run a Bear, Webelos den meeting and don't feed these kids for that hour will we need to call in the ambulance and paramedics?
  25. Yeah, I recently left working at district level and I'm now doing UC work and will help with a training course if asked.. My husband keeps asking if I am going to District committee meetings for the last 3 months, I keep telling him No, I am no longer in District.. This Monday, he was asked if I would be interested in a position, he said he thought I would.. I had to email back and say "No thanks".. I too got fed up with the professional bureauracy.. Or maybe for me it's more like back stabbing.. I liked our DE, he made some mistakes but he had passion for the job and cared about us volunteers.. He raised our district form last position to top position.. But, someone in Council wanted him gone because he didn't kiss a$$ enough around there.. So they set the bar too high to make.. I like the new DE, I hope he does well, but don't need to deal with that stuff during my free time.. I have enough of it in my 9-5 job.
