In general, I agree with OGE. The librarian should keep the list of who has what book, and who has returned it. If they have a problem with people returning matirials, they should confront it immediatly. Someone should not be denyied rank advancemnt because they are currently using a troop book.

Up until about a month ago, I was a regular on this forum. I have slowly stopped coming here over the past month, and now it is time for me to say good bye for a while. In short, yes he can. While usually only worn on formal occassions, you can wear it whenever you want (except outdoors when it would get in the way of safty).

With few exceptions, it is Mr./Mrs. Lastname. I think it is a harder adjustment for some of the adults (including our soon to be SM) than it is for us scouts. Afterall, we are used to refering to adults that way from being in school (I can only think of 1 teacher in our school who is refered to by first name, partly because her last name is Smith (and their are myltiply Mrs. Smith's) and partly as a sign of disrespect). The only exception to this would be one of our former SM's, no sons in the troop, former SPL (15 years ago). He was always refered to by first name.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but couldn't an ASM serve on a Eagle BOR for a scout in a different troop. After all, the only requirment for them is that they understand the significance of the rank and the scout oath and law. Not sure if this is allowed, just a thought

I agree with what Kahuna said. In a troop most leaders are only there because there children are involved. When there sons loose interest/age out, they tend to leave too.

That still leaves open the question of when you can complete it. If a tenderfoot scout completed it on Dec 31, 2005 would it count? Also, Ed, where did you get the first half of your quote?

Interesting situation. I would try to find out more about what his beliefs are before I made a decision. What if he says that he believes in god, but also believes that communication with god should be done individually, not publicly (leading your patrol in grace). Would that be concidered grounds for waiving the requirment? If so, by whom?

I think the key to the situation is the fact that the scouts asked you to take a less hands on approach. If they decided it was important enough to ask you to do this, then I would listen to them. They, better than anyone here, know how much help they need. However, make sure you continue to give feedback, and to let them know that you are their to help if they need it.

The blue cards haves two spots for the SM to sign. One giving permission to start the badge, and one saying it was completed. whether the SM can not sign it after the councelor has, I don't know, but there is two spots for the SM to sign.

A few year ago my troop started an annual "mystery trip". Briefly, what it is is a trip where the destination is not announced until we arrive at the location. We do the trip at the end of april break from school, Thursday through Sunday. In the past we have gone to places like Washington DC(smithsonian, navel acadamy), Boston (science museum, USS Massachusets), and Valley Forge/Hershey. Make sure you know something about the unit before you present to them. Try to answer the following question: What service that MY TROOP USES is provided by the council, that could be lost if money for FOS is not raised. The last time we had someone come in to do a FOS pitch to our troop he spent a good amount of time talking about how the council needs money to run there great summer camp programs. He didn't realize that we haven't been to in council summer camp in a long time (atleast the past decade).

The BSA Website says that one of the responsbilities of the council is to provide " Liability insurance protection" . I advise you to contact your council for more details.

Great Story! My thought as I was reading it was what happens at the BoR. My guess is that most of the board members will not know all the details of his experiences that you have seen, and from your explination, he might not have realized this yet himself. Any thoughts on if he will have problems passing a Board of Review for a lack of leadership?

I'm looking for this for my new Venturing Crew. while a couple of us are also boy scouts, most of the crew has no idea what size portions you should make (everything from how many loafs of bread for sandwhiches, to how many pounds of pasta for spaghetti dinner and everything in between).

A while ago I remember coming across a document online that had a comprehensive list of how much of what food made good portions. Does anyone know where I might be able to find this (or another similar) file?

I am too tired right now (just got back from Camporee) to give a long response, so I might expand on this later. Most of the advise that I could give you, would be a repeat of what has already been said in other threads. I agree with pretty much all of Greying Beaver said. However, one piece of advise that i will give you now, is be prepared to recieve the following response when you bring it up the the committee or SM: "What we are doing now works, why change it" Not sure how to answer that, but just something to think about. I agree with what Hunt said. The plain reading of the requirment makes it seem like time spent as ASPL or SPL doesn't count towards requirment one. I also agree that that is completly unreasonable, and unfair. So, for the purposes of that requirment, I concider myslef in the "senior patrol" which acts only to give the SPL/ASPLs a place to be in.

What would like to know is either: 1)How did you find your way into a normal sized paper bag? OR 2)Where do you get such a giant oversized bag?
