  1. Is it the world of Robin Hood you folks occuppy? Or the world created by the immortal Mel Brooks - Robin Hood Men In Tights? Remember, my opinion and $ will buy coffee at ye olde trading post
  2. I, for one, don't want to outlaw walking sticks or staffs. I use one and I am about to make a more useful one. If interested, check out this link. http://www.backpacking.net/makegear/hiking-staff/ I have been very interested and thankful for all of the comments. Scouting is very important to me and my entire family. Your help is greatly appreciated. Remember, my opinion and $ will buy coffee at the trading post.
  3. I don't like to argue, I like to discuss. What is the purpose of Scouting? Isn't the "trail to Eagle" a means to an end as opposed to the reason that Scouting exists. Not all boys will make Eagle. I did not. Yet I hope that I have learned the lessons of Scouting and that I do my best to be an asset to my community, my family, my church and myself. Boys who decide not to become Eagles still can be successful Scouts and successful Scout leaders. Remember, my opininon and $ will buy coffee at the trading post.
  4. I used to be a FOX, and a Good Old FOX too, But now I've finished FOXING and I don't know what to do. I'm growing old and feeble, and I can FOX no more! So I'm going to work my ticket if I can! Back to Gilwell, Happy Land, I'm going to work my ticket if I can! a sly fox c 22 01
  5. only if you are being formal and wearing your class A uniform when discussing the topic. I am proud to report that we have had no normal bears, (that is non wood badge bears,) visiting any troop or camp site I have been operating the device in. However, it does not appear to be too effective against minibears (and other wood badge creatures as well). Remember, my opinion and $ will buy coffee at the trading post.
  6. Does any one know if the well known antibear device some leaders and scouts volunteer to run all night work against Big Foot? What, you say that you don't know the well known antibear device? Well some rude people might call it snoring. Remember, my opinion and $ will buy coffee at the trading post.
  7. I am not the SM. I am not talking about the boys using the walking stick as a fake gun, but rather moving it in the air like one would use a quarter staff or bo (if I have the terms right). Sometimes it is just one boy, the danger being he doesn't see another person nearby or that person walks into the danger zone unknowingly, sometimes it is fake combat. Please keep responding.(This message has been edited by a_sly_fox)
  8. one of my pet peeves is individuals misusing a walking stick and acting like it is a martial art instrument or in some way play fighting. When I see this I step in and instruct the Scout that the stick is to be kept with one end on the ground. I am proactive in my approach whenever I see Scouts acting like they are fighting - kicking at each other, swinging at each other etc. The problem is that I am receiving no support from other adult leaders and have had confrontations over this. It makes me very uncomfortable with the other leaders. What suggestions does anyone have. Am I being overreactive? Should I let "boys be boys". Should I mind my own business and not care when some scouts get away with things b/c their parent permits such behavior. Please respond.
