Hello. I am so glad that you brought up the Be Prepared theme. I was wondering what to do for our next den meeting & field trip. I think that the emergency situations, 911 calls, fire department & police department trips have been done often enough (between scouts & schools) by the Bear year. So, I've been loking for something different. We live in Oklahoma. The hurricane victims have reached us too. We don't have to worry about direct hurricanes but we still get the aftermath with the storms. And, with the storms often comes toronado's. I have an emergency kit that I keep stocked just in case. I think that I'll address "Be Prepared" for toronado's next week. Also, I'll set up a field trip to "Toronado Alley" a toronado shelter/edcational company. Thank You very much.

Maybe someone should nominate this woman to TLC's "What Not to Wear"! Let them address the problem! Haa Haa... OK, all kidding aside. I have been in a very similar situation for 3 years with one of my scouts & his parents. They all have a cleanliness problem. This scout is just dirty, stained & smells. His father was the same. When this scout was a Tiger, the dad & siblings would all join in & the odor was so bad that nobody wanted to sit next to them. Our eyes & noses would literally burn from the smell. I even did a den meeting on personal hygiene & handed out a two week tracking chart... it never helped. Fortunately for the rest of us, the dad & siblings no longer come so it's only the scout's offending odor we have to put up with. I never knew how to approach it either. I just make sure this scout washes his hands (at least) before & pack den meetings. It's still somewhat different for a leader. I think that all leaders have a responsibility to be a good role model & wear the uniform with respect. That means being clean, tucked & buttoned. And if she chooses to hang low then so be it. Personally, I don't think it's very professional to go bra-less but, to each his own.

Why does this have to get political? I believe that "organized religion" can be crupted by politics. And, there are some people that go to church regularly, who are not honest people during the rest of the week. (not everyone!)Going to church or claiming a religion does not automatically make anyone a good person. I think you need to ask yourself...Are you a good person? An honest person? Open-minded & enjoy having fun with the kids? That's what these boys needs. "Faith" doesn't come from a building...it comes from the heart. Personally, I choose not to particiipate in religious discussions because I have very ecentric views & don't want to alienate myself. Especially from my pack members. But, I also choose to respect other views. Afterall...who's to say if anyone is right or wrong...it's just a different view. I have faith, and I can honestly participate in the law of the pack & pledge without guilt. But, my personal relationship with a "higher being" is just that...personal. Good Luck with your decision.

I know baking in a dutch oven has been done thru scouting but has anyone tried to bake a cake using a stainless steel wok? We are having our annual cake bake auction, with the "Pet Pals" theme. My son has decided to bake a cake to look like a wolf spider! If anyone knows if it will work please let me know. If not, I'll be breaking new ground in the expiermental wok-baking area.

Hello! I went thru with the Jungle Book Idea. My husband & I made the paper-mache anmials last night so we wouldn't have to meet on V-day. (Only because we were short on time.) To speed up the process we used as many cardboard & plastic items to make the bodies of the anmials. We used a sprite bottle with a ricotta tub for the wolf. A long Sierra mist bottle for the lion (laying down) & a cardboard Ovaltine container for a bear. Also, we used toliet paper tubes for limbs, (cut & rolled to the necessary width). The liquid starch works great and they dried over night. Tonight at our den meeting, I had the boys team up & paint the anmials in groups of 3. After they were painted, we made jungle leaf place mats. I had the boys fold a green sheet in half long ways, and round of the two outer corners. Then they cut little V's in the outer edges. (Some boys accidentally cut the folded edge.) They cut 2 leaves and glued them overlapping. That created one placemat. I had the boys make a placemat for each guest attending the banquet. Now we'll not only have our Wolf, Bear & Lion anmials, but the jungle leaves on the tables too. Once I have a guest list for our den, I'll make little bananna shaped place name tags to ensure the guest will have a placemat his cub scout made. Thanks for the great idea! I love it!

The Jungle Book characters sounds fun. I think I'll see it the parents want to meet on V-day. If so then we could paper mache the characters. I found that using liquid startch is easier and faster than any other product. We could paint them the following meeting if we can meet. I'll think of a back up plan using the Jungle Book characters in case they don't want to meet. Thanks for the idea!

Never Mind. I just found my own answer when I looked under "NetCompas catagories". I found milestones in the history link. I guess I should have looked at the links before I asked the last question. I'm still open for other idess. In the meantime I'm going to check out the historical milestones. Thanks for the idea.

I'm still fairly new at Scouting. This is our second year as Den Leaders but I didn't grow up aroiund scouts. What kind of milestones has there been with Scouting? Is there a link that talks about the changes of scouting over the past 75 years?

I thought the national Cub Scout monthly theme was Celebrating the 75th birthday of Cub Scouts. That's our theme in any case. I didn't want to just make regular birthday decorations. That's too boring. I considered having my boys make some kind of a display on an item that was invented in the 1930's. But, that doesn't sound too fun for the boys. ... help!

Kids love balloons! One game they love is tie a string to a balloon & to their foot. (Not to long) Then they have to try to pop the other balloons while trying to keep theirs from getting popped. It's loud & crazy & they love it!

I am at a complete loss as to what to do for our B&G table decoradtions! We only have one den meeting to prepare our table decorations because we are not meeting on V-day. Anyone have any good ideas?
