the first two are given's.... the waking of a person up who doesn't want to wake up was taken care of about three years ago during summer camp. The boy in question has now gone on to become an Eagle Scout and is in college. At the time of this event he wasn't expected to even stay in scouts let alone school. Anyway we woke one morning and tried to wake him but he didn't want to get up. We went on to breakfast and he was still sleeping. When the troop returned we found that he still didn't want to get up so I made it a whole lot simpler. I had a couple of the boys take the rainflap off of his tent and then I yelled to get up and he 5 minutes or I would dump a bucket of water on him. He said I wouldn't dare and went back to sleep. Let''s just finish this with it took him most of the day to dry his things. The rest of the troop now warns scouts that when it's time to get up in the morning to just get up. and yes I will do it again. Water never hurt anyone and once is enough for most people. By the way this scout is not with the troop because of college but we are one of the first visits he makes when he comes home. He will also be the first one to put friendly pressure on a scout who isn't trying.

I like your message with the exception of if an adult doesn't have a full uniform u don't need the adult. I am sorry to say but lately it has been hard to get and keep adults and kids in the troop and pack in our area. So I will take the adult and work on the getting of the uniform.

Our troops solution is this as the boys grow they donate there slightly used uniforms to the troop clothing bin. Then when someone joins or needs a new shirt or pair of pants they can look in the bin. Thus the scouts are uniformed. I also love to shop thrift shops. I have purchased many scouting items and extras for out patrol kits for little of nothing. Also if we don't have it and the scout needs it we will obtain it for them but they have to "pay for it" by doing a bit of extra for the troop or patrol.

Ok, I surrender I wear an earring, fought for my country, ride motorcycles, have a pony tail, am a non conformist, smoke and drink. What does that make me AN AMERICAN. I don't smoke nor will a scout ever smell alcohol on my breath. The boys in the troop now I do both. Their Parents trust me to take care of the boys when gone on hikes, campouts, and other activities. When I wear the uniform and am with the boys I have everything where it belongs. My uniform is clean and pressed and the gig line is straight. there are no flags around the pockets and my hair is combed and in a ponytail. The earring is a small gold hoop that I am proud to wear, I earned it sailing the Seven Seas of Sinbad. As for being a nonconformist. Yes I am I cannot help but to be because I am an American. I was taught to lead by example. So be it the boys in my troop don't come to meetings in baggy jeans. although they did at one time. I showed them that they might be cool but they were not made to go pushing thru the brush to get to a remote campsite. Instead of trying to push the boys to do what you want do what we are supposed to do as leaders and advise. Most boys that I know of will do if you suggest and not try to tell them to do something . My 2 cents worth..
