  1. I haven't had to personally deal with this but 1 of the mother in our troop just splits it evenly between both boys. This can be accomplished by letting both boys sell on separate sheets and doing a master sheet to turn in. If prizes are involved get the boys 2 prizes on same level. my 2 cents kbandit
  2. I have never heard of district/council scheduling anything during the school day here (Ohio). My son, a boy scout, has missed a meeting or two because of homework that needed to be completed for the next day. School is a priority. When I first read the post my thoughts were "That's nuts to pull children out of school 6 times a year." Is most of the cubs in your pack home schooled where they have more latitude to go during normal school days? If it is the pack who is scheduling then maybe look for a pack in your area that is more on a normal school schedule for their activities. You can contact your DE (district executive) to find another pack. Are you sure that the camp does not start say on a Friday evening? My 2 cents Kbandit
  3. I think you need to have something about participating in unit fundraisers. Who in adult leadership will make the decision on need. You will have some (hopefully not) that do not need aid but will ask. Need to decide just what you are willing to help with (camp/uniform/outings) and how much you are willing to help with all or 1/2, 3/4. A scout should earn thier own way. I know not always possible but an attempt should be made to pay thier own way. Does you council have campership/scholarships available? Maybe look at their guidlines. My 2 cents kbandit
  4. Adult registration fees cover the cost of the insurance. If they are not registered then who paid the cost of their insurance? I would think they would need to contact your council and go from there. The council or insurance company would have the final call on this question.
  5. As a husband (SM) and wife (Comm) we do not consider ourselves as two deep leadership. It is CYA for us. We have never had to cancel an outing because of not enough leaders. If for some reason we did not have additional adult leadership we would cancel. We are not babysitters parent(s) would have to step up to the plate. Kbandit
  6. Our troop has sent 1 scout home last year from summer camp in Tenn. We are from Ohio. The decission was made by the adult leadership at camp. Monday-visit from camp commish-talking X-rated stuff at waterfront Tues-injury-wanted x-rayed at hospital- no problem - done Wednesday-Camp director, 3 staff members from class - throwing open knife over his shoulder with total disregard as to anyone behind him- kicked out of class Wednesday-ripped off class A (unwearable) to fight with another scout from another troop. Wednesday nite adult meeting. Call mom to come and get him. Scout stayed with adults until ride arrived. Mom sent grandma and grandpa on Thurs to get him. He was not told until they got on-site that he was going home by scoutmaster because of what he might have done to himself or others. Mom works shift work and was unable to make to trip due to time involved. Fast forward to present. As of today this scout is suspended due to stopping all the toilets up at CO (intentional). Meeting will be in Aug with CC, COR, and SM if he and his mom choose to return. We will see what happens. kbandit
  7. Our troop meets with the Web II scouts before we start our fall fundraiser. We sell Christmas wreaths. We set up accounts for those selling and planning on joining our troop however if they change their minds and join another troop we will send a check to that troop for that scout. We will Not give the scout or parent a check. If the scout drops out without crossing over somewhere the troop absorbs the funds. Our crossover is also Feb. We will not let them sell popcorn with the troop as they are still a member of a pack and for most packs this is their major source of fundraising. One way to communicate with all the packs that come to your troop might be having them come to you by way of visiting during a meeting night and discussing the next summer camp and fundraising opportunities available to them. You might also get a kinda head count as to those interested in going.
  8. The scouts must come first. Isn't that why we do what we do. My situation is hubby SM (not a paper person) and CC (not a paper person)so I as committee/secretary/treasurer/advancement keeps up with the paperwork that needs to be taken care of. Hubby and I have more free time (LOL) than CC and live closer to scout shop so we are the ones running there. Not a big deal. This works for our troop. Hubby does help when I ask. I also took care of the logistics of getting to and from summer camp 3 1/2 hrs away. I look forward to the approx 5 weeks between summer camp and getting started back up in the fall. Not a whole lot of paperwork other than summer camp wrap up. Week before start up scouts will have up to date sheets from Troopmaster to know where they are in advancement. It is all about the scouts and doing the best we can for them. If we waited on our CC to take paperwork to council well..... SM taking it works for us. CC does a great job in other aspects and loves working with the scouts on skills and outdoor activities. More hands on than paperwork. kbandit
  9. Just got back today from Camp Buffalo in Indiana (Sagamore Council). This was our first year at this camp. We go out of council for our summer camp. We left this morning with our reservation in place for next year. Our scouts had the best time. Great food. Great staff. We felt very welcome. kbandit
  10. We have a large outline of our state, done by a local sign company that has the vinyal cutter, scout laws and flour de leis on our trailer. Hubby (scoutmaster) applied them. He is autobody refinisher. These are all larger than the 29" scout decal. They (sign co.) worked off a small version and enlarged by computer. kbandit
  11. Have you checked with your nearby scout camp? Some have an orienteering course already laid out. kbandit
  12. Welcome I am in Ohio also. I am a committee member. Hubby is scoutmaster. I am also secretary/treasurer/chief paper pusher (meaning I keep up with the scouts records, handouts and everything else you can imagine). We do work very closely with the committee chair. We have been in scouts with our chairman for 11+ years so that is a plus for us. One word of advice TRAINING. I have taken training that is not required for my position just so that I have a better understanding overall. Welcome again and there is lots of wisdom on this forum. kbandit
  13. at Omaha.com there is a condolense link. This was a terrible thing. I hope some good will come out of this awful tragedy. The only time we were evacuated to the camp storm shelter it was quite scary as it was a large dining hall on a hill with over 300 inside. Luckily nothing tragic happened that time. It is time to rethink where to evacuate scout and scouters at camps. Alot of the dining halls have large beautiful stone fireplaces is this where you would want to be?
  14. Get to know your Charter Organization Representative (COR). Name should be listed on recharter form. kbandit
  15. try a program called PDF2Word. I have version 3.0. It lets you use it 100 times for free. I have used this to convert to word and edit how I want to. Works great for me but I have not tried it on the Eagle App. It is available on-line. Just google. My 2 cents Kbandit
  16. Does your council have a boy scout summer camp program? If it does contact the camp director and see how they handle boy scouts without the immunizations. I would think CD would know how it is handled and if there is a form. Have you tried your council office? Activities chairman for your district? District Executive? My 2 cents kbandit
  17. Call a Boy Scout troop and talk to the Chaplain (Adult) or Chaplain Aid (scout)and they may be willing to do a service or give some helpful advice. Granted this is short notice.
  18. Always ask if there is a scout discount. Some places have one others don't. Dosn't hurt to ask.
  19. Is there going to be anyone to welcome the Webelos that are crossing over from their new troop? Our troop always has a few leaders and Boy Scouts to welcome the new scouts and in doing so we take off the blue eplets and put the reds on, take off the webelo neckerchief put a BS one on and hand them their Boy Scout handbook. Our Boy Scouts are the ones who change out the Webelos garb and hand them their book the adults shake their hands and welcome them to the troop.
  20. Coleman.com has a non-profit section where scout troops can sign up and get a discount. They will give you an account number and anyone from your troop may use that same number. Just some info.
  21. I would like to think this question was asked of the scout to see if he had thought about the citizenship portion of scouting. Just to see if the scout had even thought of voting and not so much the who part of the answer. I wouldn't think a political question is the norm but almost 18 he will probley be eligible to vote this year. My 2cents and welcome to the forum.
  22. The new version of "A Time to Tell" DVD covers the new requirements. All of our scouts watched last meeting with a dad who is a policeman in full uniform leading the discussion portions. Think it went well and all T-1st requirements were met. We encouraged all parents to attend as well. We plan on showing the video each year (new for crossovers and review for olders). We purchased the DVD through local scout shop but it is available through the online store as well. $10.00 Our local shop has loaners but they are always out.
  23. We have one large perk coffee pot, holds probley gal or gal 1/2, we perk before bed and heat in am. Gets it done quicker. We use 3 of the 12 cup pouches.
  24. You might want to retitle your post to something like "First class water requirements". Also are you in the US?
